Based on what? Who on the Bills was better then him on the outside this year (yes, I know there isn't much in the way of competition)? I suggest watching the Denver game again. Kelsay is no star, he is not suited to be an OLB. But he certainly is a decent DE. He was the ONLY player other than Dareus who got any sort of pressure on the QB consistently this year, he also frequently attracted blocking help from the RB, since Edwards never called Blitzes... No he's not anything close to bruce smith or even aaron schobel, but to blame the defensive struggles on him is asinine. He is what he is, a serviceable middle of the road type of DE. Replace him with a 7th rounder? So guys like Batten or Moats (both 6th rounders)? Oh yeah, they have really proven that they are the solution...While Carrington does show some promise (3rd rounder), he hasn't been able to consistently pressure the QB yet either.

which former bill did you wish we didnt give away

Well like I said, I do think the 3-4 is good for him. LB's are more aggressive by nature in that scheme, which I think takes better advantage of his skill set. Certainly he has looked better in Washington than he did in Buffalo, IMO any way. I definitely won't argue that the talent level on the Bills at the time could have an affect on the MLB, I don't question that at all. -
Yeah, Keslay should be a 4-3 end. Upshaw should be a 3-4 OLB...IMO we shouldn't be drafting high picks, then forcing them into unfamiliar positions. If we aren't going to use a 3-4, I think we have to take someone that fits the scheme. I'll leave that up to Wanny though... Hightower really impressed me, even though he doesn't get quite as much attention. That guy looks like every bit the stud that Upshaw is...Even the young Mosley looked pretty good before his leg got mangled last night. That defense is simply loaded.

I will say this, I think he has been much better in Washington's 3-4 defense than he was in the Bills 4-3. Obviously there are different responsibilities, coaches, ect...I am also by no means saying he is a bad football player. They guy is skilled, and a tackling machine as I mentioned. He puts up great numbers, I just think he had some weaknesses, at least in the 4-3. When he played for the Bills he was in on just about every tackle, the problem for me was that those tackles were always well down field, consistently. He rarely met the RB at the line, he always waited for him to make a move, then he reacted. He's cautious, and never over commits. That's how he makes so many tackles, but often it can be at the expense of yards. I was frequently frustrated watching him play as a Bill, that's where my opinion comes from. I certainly don't argue that he is much better than Poz. Poz played a similar style, with half the speed IMO... -
Kelsay is decent as a DE...Sure Upshaw might be able to play DE, or 4-3 LB in the NFL...But are the Bills really going to draft a guy like that and force him to change position? I just think his greatest value is at 3-4 OLB...

Everyone is welcome to their own thoughts...Mine is that the guy has his weaknesses, a far cry from Patrick Willis types. Poz is slower version of Fletcher...Solid tacklers, who rarely venture to or beyond the line of scrimmage...My opinion of course. -

Anyone excited about the "Championship Game" tonight?
Turbosrrgood replied to Mr. WEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I certainly wasn't excited before the game...But in hindsight I thoroughly enjoyed watching it though. In general, defensive college games usually aren't entertaining to me...But that has to be the best college defense I have ever seen. Mccarron was also very impressive as well. His arm is nothing special, but his ability to move around and throw accurately on the run was really fun to watch. Side note: Pretty pathetic coaching job by LSU, almost Jauron like...After being able to do nothing in the 1st half, what did they do in the 2nd half? THE EXACT SAME THING...Why not put in Lee? Try throwing down field...ANYTHING different? Nope, they just stuck with the same failed game plan...Just really reminded me of Jauron's Bills, and Turk "The Brain" Schonert... One more reason I wish the Bills would keep the 3-4, but if they go to a 4-3 I don't see how they can take Upshaw. He is a pure 265# OLB that played exclusively in the 3-4... -
That is almost a must, I don't see how we could not draft that position. Upshaw looks great, but he is a 265# OLB that played exclusively in the 3-4 in college. If the Bills go 4-3 that might not make a ton of sense. Also, while his sack numbers were pretty good, he is not necessarily a big time pass rushing type IMO. I'm just not seeing the Bills going that direction unless they somehow stick to a 3-4. I wish the Bills could draft the entire Alabama defense, DC included...

Turbosrrgood replied to loserlovers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, I chose Greer...Holy crap, I was in the majority for once. To be honest I really don't miss the other guys on that list at all, so it was an easy choice for me. Excellent point Fletcher is ok, but he is forever overrated. The guy is a tackling machine, no doubt. Just watch him play though, most of his tackles are well down field...POZ like. There are always guys like Fletch that put up amazing numbers, mainly because they are not very aggressive. When you sit back and wait, you will get a ton of tackles. One of the reasons why the Bills let him go, not a game changer. -
This. George Wilson is far in a way better...

I wasn't impressed by Brock. Just because he is 6-8, doesn't mean he is a good QB. I wouldn't be opposed to taking a chance on him late in the draft, but I didn't see anything from him that makes me think he could be better than Fitz...

Big name WR I strongly think we WILL sign
Turbosrrgood replied to Estelle Getty's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the association you have shown between Nix and SD FA's makes sense...It's certainly a possibility. Personally he is not on my list of FA favorites. His best work is downfield, while this Bills team and its QB are more about short/balanced passing. VJ has been a little inconsistent for my taste, and has looked very mediocre on the underneath stuff. Rivers was able to sling nice downfield passes to VJ, I don't think Fitz can do the same. I hope they pick up someone a little more balanced, that can run nice routes underneath, as well as go deep on occasion. -
Strong praise for Perry Fewell
Turbosrrgood replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great observation... I am still baffled to this day why guys like Mularkey are still "highly touted", despite failure after failure. The offense was bad for the Steelers (some of their worst years in recent history), AWFUL for the Bills, Dolphins, and now Falcons. I'll admit the Falcons have had occasional "bursts" of offense, but they are loaded with talent. They should be great, not struggling... Yet this guy is still considered top OC talent... -
You make it seem like it's easy to find a guy that can kick it 50-60 yards consistently in the NFL, and be "Feagles" like inside the 20. It's hard, there are very few kickers that can consistently do both. Moorman has a rocket leg, and is fairly consistent. So no, I don't think the Bills should be wasting resources trying to improve a position they are good at, when they have so many other big holes. If the Bills were to release a proven guy like Moorman for a rookie or FA, they are more likely to be WORSE than better. Not a risk the Bills need to take IMO.

I didn't hate Fewell, but I don't think he is a great DC either. That Giants team has one of the best D-lines in the league, and they have a pretty solid secondary as well, despite the injuries. There is no doubt about it though, that defense had a great game. A clutch performance in the playoffs. You have to give the guy at least a little credit. -
TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)
Turbosrrgood replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Really? Did he win against the Bill's and our QB (which apparently cannot win)? What about the last 3 games of the season (clutch time)? Bailed out by all of the other contenders losing. This team is all about John Fox. The job he is doing with this team is nothing short of amazing, too bad we couldn't land him. He turned the worst defense in the league, into a legitimate scary defense. He brought with him his usual strong running game, and he has been able to get the most out of a Tebow...An awful QB IMO... John Fox is the hero of Denver, Tebow is just getting all the headlines... -
I wouldn't mind if the draft worked out that way. My only concern is that our two biggest holes on the team aren't addressed until later in the draft. Pass rushing, LB's, and WR's are all a serious point of deficiency for the Bills. Having said that though, there may not be good enough players available in the draft to spend high picks on at those positions. Personally I think it's a little much to label Tannehill as a "franchise" QB. While he may have potential (like Beck, Kolb, Edwards, Losman, ect...) to get too excited about him may be foolish. Brees is the exception, not the rule. Most 2nd/3rd round QB picks disappear into oblivion... He may end up being great and I would be fine with taking the risk on him, but I certainly don't think you can assume greatness.

Say what you want about Chan Gailey
Turbosrrgood replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I disagree with most of this... Sure lynch could of helped us if we KNEW that Fred was going to get hurt...But we didn't, and in fact Fred Jackson was on an MVP pace before he got hurt. So "blaming" Nix/Gailey for replacing Lynch with a better player (and getting picks for him), is just asinine IMO. People love to tout Whitner, now that he is on a team with a terrific coach and loaded with defensive talent. I have yet to hear anyone (including Whitner) say that he played better than George Wilson when he was healthy. Again, you are "blaming" Nix/Gailey for IMPROVING the SS position? Incognito? Really? Are you saying that he is good? He was ranked as one of the top 5 dirty players in the league, so I guess he's got that going for him. The guy wasn't good when he was here, a penalty machine. Evans? Again, really? Yes the Bills desperately need WR help, but Evans did basically nothing this year...The 4th round pick we got for him seems like a pretty big win for the Bills to me. Better receivers, such as Lloyd, only returned a 6th round pick. BTW, Gailey probably has input regarding personnel decisions, but Nix and the FO are the ones that pull the trigger. Also, I don't think there is even a remote possibility that Gailey is replaced this off season, so you may end up disappointed... -
Whoa whoa...There is "no reasonable argument against it"? Sorry going to have to strongly disagree with you there. I can definitely understand wanting a franchise QB, but there are many very reasonable arguments against it. 1) This team has several very large holes, QB not necessarily being one of them. 2) To trade many good picks to get one player that may or may not actually be good in the NFL is far from a guarantee of success. It would also have the potential of setting the team back even further for quite some time. 3) To your point above about Bradford, if we draft a potential starting QB at the expense of all other positions on the team, we have just placed that QB in a position to fail. I am not necessarily saying I am against trying to get RG3...but there are certainly many good reasons not to as well.
-
Smart move for Jones, personally I did not think he looked like an NFL quality QB this year. Compared to Luck and RG3 he definitely looks 2nd class. As far as what it would take to get Luck in this year's draft? I couldn't answer that poll, I just don't think it's even close to being in the realm of possibility. Right. People see a black QB that can run, and they immediately say "Vick!", "Newton!". There are a lot of things that separate him from previous "quick" QB's. I think this guy is a legitimate passer FIRST, runner second..

Backup QB McElroy Calls Out the Jets
Turbosrrgood replied to jangalang's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, that always confounded me as well...Why was a guy so highly touted, when he never even came close to winning. The only thing he proved in college was the ability to lose. That showed in the pro's, he had some ability, but never the "fire" to actually get the job done... -
I like VJ, but I don't think he is right for the Bills. He is a down field receiver (and an inconsistent one this season at best), he has never been that good with the underneath stuff. With Fitz's poor downfield accuracy, and the Bills short passing scheme, this probably doesn't make a ton of sense. I think we need SJ...plus another SJ type (preferably with better hands), to go along with him. Wayne, Bowe?

Wow, love it...Lets sign him, I liked him in college. But seriously, the guy is flat out speaking the truth. I know, I've posted this before, but it fits... http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2012/1/2/2676605/rex-ryan-jets-media-war You make a good point, he is relatively unknown. Great way to advertise yourself, good or bad...
