Aaron Williams Drafted then Andy Dalton
Turbosrrgood replied to Hsp08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why are people labeling guys like this "luxury picks"? I don't get it, it's not like he's a kicker, or just a return man. Aaron Williams was a steal, a first round CB we got in the second round. DB is the most numerous position in football, and one of the hardest for which to find top quality players. We got a solid starter at a key defensive position, how is that a luxury? It's a necessity IMO. Just about every team takes 1 or 2 DB's in every draft. This was nothing more or less than a solid pick, and Williams could be a starter here for a long time. -

Williams looks like a possible star to me...I think the Bills really stole a solid player. Why second guess a great pick? -
I for one have been happy with the way Nix has handled this team, and think Gailey is doing a decent job as well. One thing I have noticed though, is that these guys are pretty infatuated with "familiar" guys from old regimes. Hence Choice (Georgia Tech with Gailey). They also brought in Merriman and Davis (Nix), they also just signed a former GT MLB. It seems like they are trying to force some of these "familiar" guys into action, and so far none of them have worked out. It also makes you think that Vincent Jackson, and Bowe are on their short list of FA WR's to look at... Broken bones rarely affect football players once they heal. Broken bones are nothing (unless they shatter), it's ligament and tendon issues that are worrisome. He will be just fine. Spiller played great at the end of the season, but I am convinced that he could not carry a full season as the lone running back successfully. He has amazing speed, and big play ability, primarily when he has space. He excels out of the spread formation, which Gailey uses extensively. In other formations, such as short yardage and goal line, even single back and the rare (for the Bills) I formation, he struggles. In "conventional" running situations, Spiller hasn't been as effective. I question how effective he would be trying to grind out the end of games with the lead. I think Bills need Jackson for those situations. Jackson is more of a balanced back. Next year if they are healthy, and if the line is healthy, we could have one impressive 1-2 punch...

I am a SJ fan, and we need to sign him...That said... I don't care what the stats say, SJ does drop a lot of passes. Especially in important situations like third downs, goal situations, and game winning drives... You don't need stats to tell you that, just watch the games. Also, you don't have to have amazing hands to be a good WR...Good examples are TO, Marshall, Garcon, Bowe, SJ, ect... On the flip side, Nicks might have the best hands I have ever seen. This too...

Mike Mularkey is Jags new head coach
Turbosrrgood replied to mellaman101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know what you are saying, but... The Falcons have a ton of talent on that offense, great young QB, Turner, two stud WR's, a HOF TE, good O-line... You want your O-coordinator to be able to turn that combination into a dominant offense. The Falcons offense was far from dominant this year, they were extremely inconsistent and were really riding on their defense. They shouldn't be eeking by offensively with that talent, which is what they did this year. What it really comes down to though, is the playoff game. The giants were the 27th ranked defense in yards allowed in the regular season, ATL's offense got shutout in embarrassing fashion. In the playoffs, when it matters the most...Mularkey just can't get it done, time proven. Funny to watch one of our previous head coaches (even if only for a few games) embarrass another one. -
Wow -- player revolt against Sanchez
Turbosrrgood replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you misunderstood my point(Or I just didn't present it well). I by no means think Sanchez is a great QB, the guy is always good for a few chuckles when you watch some of the picks he throws. Personally I never thought he would be a good NFL QB when he was drafted. My point was more that Brian Schottenheimer butchered that offense. 2 and 3 years ago the Jets ran wild, and had a solid defense. They ran an old fashion power football game, and were fairly successful doing it. Schotty basically benched a HOF running back in LT, played the mediocre Green, and relied on a mistake prone QB to throw down field. IMO Schotty ran the worst possible game plan for that offense, and got the least out of his best players. Whether you like Gailey or not, I think he showed the exact opposite this year. He started with a disaster of a line, an awful WR core, and a journeyman QB. He managed to squeeze at least some success out of a talent starved team. Schotty managed to bury a team with an all star LT, HOF RB, two superbowl winning WR's, a top notch TE.... -
Mike Mularkey is Jags new head coach
Turbosrrgood replied to mellaman101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That certainly makes sense. It really makes you scratch your head as to why Jacksonville's two main head coaching candidates were guys not being retained because their previous teams basically considered them to have failed at their jobs. In Mularkey's case he has failed numerous times now, and he had some pretty good tools to work with in ATL. All this after their owner resisted offering the team for sale and insisted they were staying in Jacksonville long term. I guess someone has to be the new Al Davis... This says is it all... -
All 4 games? Did you watch? Will you watch?
Turbosrrgood replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just love football and will be watching this week. I'm definitely interested in seeing how the 9'ers D holds up against the Saints, and I certainly think the Giants are playing well enough to compete with GB. With GB's swiss "cheese" defense, it should be fun to watch. I'm less excited about the AFC matchups... When the Bills are doing well (rare occasion), I have less of an interest in watching other football. But when they suck or aren't playing, I feel more of a need to supplement my football fix from other sources... -

Turbosrrgood replied to Clippers of Nfl's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched them all, but was only half watching the Den-Pitt game. Pitt really laid an egg. Thomas is a legit receiver... My favorite was the Giants game, that D-line is fun to watch...I can only dream of the Bills team that could actually pressure the QB with 4 guys like that. Mike Mularkey sucks, and apparently having your offense shutout against a bad defense in a playoff game is what it takes to win a HC job... The Detroit-Saints game went pretty much exactly as expected. I am so used to watching Brees score at will that it just seems like an average day for him at this point. I was pretty thoroughly bored by the Cin-Hou game. I kind of wanted them both to win, two Cinderella story type teams. Cincy was supposed to be among, if not the worst team this year, yet they made the playoffs. Houston has managed to continue succeeding despite many injuries to key players, pretty amazing. -
what pick would you despise at number 1?
Turbosrrgood replied to Trader's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He could definitely play 3-4 OLB in the NFL, no doubt. If we go to a 4-3 the question is could he play DE. Everyone else seems to overwhelmingly says yes. I don't doubt that he could, but I think it's reasonable to be a little nervous about taking a player dominant at one position and assuming he can play another. If the Bills do take him, I would love to see them still run some 3-4 where he is a known stud... -
I compare him to SJ (Garcon is probably faster though), he can get open, and makes nice sharp cuts. My impression of him, is that he runs good medium to intermediate routes, and often breaks them for big plays. I think that's perfect for the Bills offense, he does have the speed to go down field when needed too. SJ can go deep as well, they just rarely try it. Also like SJ though, Garcon drops plenty of passes. Someone mentioned the Gailey connection to Bowe, that is an excellent point. And another guy that I think would really fit into Gailey's offense, he would probably be my first choice, with Garcon coming in second. I am a little nervous about a pure deep threat like VJ, and how well Gailey/Fitz could get him involved in the offense.

Kirkpatrick is a play maker, I don't think the Bills should be drafting a corner here, but they could do worse than this guy. For me the one guy I don't want to see drafted in the first, is Michael Floyd. I know the Bills need WR's, but this guy would be a reach. He hasn't looked as impressive to me. Blackmon is a stud, Jeffrey has that big receiver potential, but Floyd just looks to be on a lower level than those guys. Plus he's just another "Problem" WR... I think they have to be looking at a top OLB, DE, or OT...I do believe that one of those positions will be the best player available at the time the Bills pick, as the 2 big time WR's are gone...Mercilus or Upshaw would be just fine by me, but I'd settle for a top LT. -
I think he would be a great pick up for this team. Not only can he run deep, but he is very good underneath as well. The only knock on him is, like stevie, he drops a lot of balls. Actually I have always thought Garcon and SJ were very similar players, with Garcon probably having a little more speed. Still, people have been talking about guys like VJ, who while very good is more of a pure vertical threat. I think the Bills need a guy like Garcon, or Bowe, that can catch the ball underneath AND stretch the field when needed.

Did Sanchez's awful performance make Schotty look bad? Or did Schotty's awful play calling ruin Sanchez? It's probably a combo of both, but I lean towards Schotty just being awful.

Turbosrrgood replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I do love to see the Jets squirm and struggle. I am also not a huge Sanchez fan. But in fairness to him, the failures of this team are not his fault. Sanchez has some good qualities, like great pocket presence and the ability to avoid pressure, and the ability to play well late in games in clutch situations. Obviously his decision making is a huge weakness. He is not an elite QB, but if he was coached properly he could certainly be a winning one with the amount of talent on that team. This all comes down to coaching. Rex Ryan is a head case, and obviously can't control the locker room. I don't see how that can be good for a young QB in any case. More importantly Schottenheimer was simply an awful OC, and the play calling was ridiculously bad. As a Bills fan I am sad to see him leave our rival. -
Yeah and they got Josh McDaniels back. This is all moot as long as the Brady/Bellichick combination is still there...

Sorry, not buying it...Lovie Smith, Marvin Lewis, Fewell, Frazier, ect...

Mike Mularkey is Jags new head coach
Turbosrrgood replied to mellaman101's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
AHAHAHA...I mean, wow I feel bad for Jags fans. They are basically guaranteed to suck for another 3+ years. Mularkey's offense performed so well against a poor defense last week, that the Jags must have been dying to get him...Considering the 27th ranked Giants defense shut out a relatively loaded ATL offense (2 points coming via safety). Perhaps it was the impressive showing that Mularkey put on as the Bills head coach? Or Miami's offensive coordinator? I just really don't get it, the guy has basically failed everywhere, yet he is considered top OC talent...The funny thing is the only other guy the Jags were talking about was Brian Schottenheimer, another awful and over hyped OC. The Jags are starting to make me feel good about being a Bills fan... -
Does anyone here actually think BS is a good coach? I don't think this was really his decision to make either. I have been hearing for weeks that the Jets were not going to bring him back, but did not want to fire him, which could hurt his future coaching opportunities. No I don't have any links at the moment, so take it for what it is. Either way, this was one awful OC in my opinion...And I am sad to see him leave the Jets. The Jets O can only get better with his departure... Mostly unrelated, but that team is a "mess" anyway... http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Mason-says-Jets-were-a-mess.html

I would be completely shocked if the Bills didn't bring back SJ...They will go through their usual song and dance regarding the contract stuff, but in the end I think they will get a deal done. Like him or not, this offense needs him. This ^. Jennings looked top notch to me when healthy...I definitely did not get the same impression from Bell. I think Hairston can play as will if not better than Bell, and we can still look for an improvement over that via FA/draft. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills sign Bell though, I'm sure he would come at a low price.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the coaching of Les Miles in this game... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1017793-alabama-beats-lsu-les-miles-made-too-many-coaching-blunders "But the bottom line is that Miles didn't pull the trigger" -
TEBOW!!! is a Jet! (finally)
Turbosrrgood replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hate Brady and Bellichick and the whole crew, don't get me wrong. The last thing I want to see is them winning another SB (Ok, actually the Jets and that loud mouth crew winning the super bowl would be the last thing I would really want to see). The hype around a mediocre at best QB just irks me. The funny thing is I loved watching Tebow in college, but in the NFL he has this whole hype train. I just want that to end. In some ways his hype is overshadowing legitimately amazing QB's like Brees and Rodgers.. -

Turbosrrgood replied to Mr. WEO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes he should be able to do that. But do you want to be taking a guy like that with the 10th pick of the draft, and HOPE he can be as dominant in the NFL as a DE, as he was as an OLB in college? To me the guy is an absolutely amazing 3-4 OLB, smart, athletic, powerful. I just think that is his best position, why make him do something else? Apparently it's just me thinking this way, but I guess I am just not a fan of forcing guys into unfamiliar positions. If we stick with a 3-4 that would be the ideal situation IMO, then he would obviously make sense. -

Yeah, it's like they gave their original game plan a shot, and when it didn't work they just folded up shop and quit. It seemed like they were so afraid of making a mistake against that defense, that they weren't even willing to try and beat them.
