  1. Yeah, there may be a little over reaction to these signings... We need about double our active game day roster for training camp, so yeah there are going to be a lot of "reserves" signed to come in and compete. Doesn't mean they will make the team, doesn't mean the Bills are necessarily are considering them starters. These signings are relatively meaningless right now. The Bills are just picking up available players that they think would be good to have in camp next year. Besides, Clowney might not be good, but unfortunately he is probably better than most if not all of our signed WR's...
  2. Or until their contracts expire and the Bills let them walk...
  3. I wouldn't assume he will get cut, Baltimore traded away a decent pick to get him. Personally I wouldn't want him back, he's older, a step slower, and I don't see how he fits into Gailey's offense... You said everything I was thinking (with better humor), now I have nothing to post...
  4. I definitely like the idea of signing Johnson. I think it would be ridiculous for the Bills to not retain one of their few good weapons when they are FAR under the salary cap, regardless of his drops and antics. I don't think Meachem would be a good fit for the Bills offense, not while Chan and Fitz are around anyway. Meechem is a down field guy, who is made to look great by his amazing QB. Chan and co. run a short passing game, and Fitz has already proven that he doesn't have downfield accuracy (under throws it almost every time). I think we need a more balanced receiver to play opposite Stevie, that can run all of the routes and catch the ball all over the field...Guys like Bowe or Wayne. Then I think we need either a wr in the mid-late rounds of the draft, or another journeyman depth type of receiver. Sorry, but D Jones just isn't good enough for the NFL. He is quick, but runs poor routes, and has awful hands. In his brief time Hagan has shown far more to me than Jones ever did...Of course we have Easley, but he didn't impress me when healthy this pre-season.
  5. I agree with the first part of your post...No one has said for certain that the Bills will go back to a 4-3 exclusively. It seems likely given Wanny's experience and the basic failure of our 3-4 to this point, but isn't certain. In general I like the 3-4 schemes, and they seem to always be more successful in the NFL. I also think the Bills do have some good 3-4 pieces (Barnett, Dareus, KW, Merriman), so I'm holding out hope they stick with it. I'd be surprised if we see anything other than a 4-3 next year though. What confuses me is why in the world you think the Bills need to find a NT in order to play the 3-4? The Bills have Kyle Williams, a NT, our only pro-bowler in the last 2 seasons. They also have one heck of a stud NT/DE/DT in Dareus. I would say that is one of the strongest positions on the team and is the least of our concerns... If they go to a 4-3 on a regular basis, there is no doubt the Bills will need DE help, as well as figuring out the whole LB thing...
  6. Yeah he seemed excited to play with Wanny again, I guess that's a good sign...
  7. While the Bills were....well, the same old Bills this year... there are still some things that gave me great satisfaction. The Bill have long been rivals with the equally lowly jets, but in recent years it's just been so much easier to root for their failure. They have picked up of really classy guys like Plaxico, Holmes, Cromartie,... . The have a ridiculously over hyped QB...But most of all they have a tubby, overrated, sexually awkward head coach that can't stop running his mouth. Ryan loves talking, he loves saying that the "Jets are the best team in the league", "If I coached the chargers we would have won the SB", "best NY team" (really? because I thought the Bills were the ONLY NY team..), super bowl this, super bowl that... The fact is the Jets are a mediocre at best team, that won a bunch of games they should have lost this year. Well fat old Rexy and crew had another temper tantrum. The headline alone just gives me warm fuzzy feelings, and seeing that Rex once again broke down in tears brought me a terrific start to the new year... http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2012/1/2/2676605/rex-ryan-jets-media-war I also love how Bart Scott is so concerned with the well being of the team... When asked about his plans for next season, Bart Scott also added, "All I know is I got a guaranteed contract for $4 million."
  8. Martin is projected to be one of the top tackles in the draft, now that he declared he is entering. It's not an exciting pick, but I wouldn't be upset if he was the guy. Many including myself think a pass rusher is the biggest need, but I don't know if there are any "special" prospects for that in this draft. The Bills should take the best player available that can help this team, and fit in to our scheme (no one knows exactly on defense yet...). RG3 or Blackmon would be great, as would a game changing pass rusher, but if one of those isn't available Jonathan Martin could be a good choice.
  9. I hope the Bills keep Whaley, I loved the last draft... Of course if he goes to the Colts, maybe we get Polian back?
  10. Interesting that he was a 3-4 ILB, coming from a 3-4 team... Does that mean Wanny might stick with the scheme? I guess he did play 4-3 MLB for Wanny at Pitt though...so probably not... Maybe he likes that he has experience with both. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_McKillop
  11. I pretty much agree with this statement. But personally, I doubt the Bills will change their draft plans based on other teams FA's. My guess is that the Bills (Nix/Whaley) will be drafting to fill the many holes that they have and try to field a competitive team...On the flip side, Ralph will be trying to field a team with the lowest possible total expenses, regardless of compete level...
  12. No I definitely don't think SJ wanted to get benched, but his dumb actions led to it anyway... But clearly the Bills weren't at all concerned with losing the game by benching him... If the Bills wanted to win they would have let him play at least the second half. I think they were just fine with sealing their fate by leaving him out, and improving their draft position.
  13. You're missing the point. How does the Jet's possibly getting Manning change the answer to that question... It doesn't...
  14. Well I'll agree with you there, I definitely don't think that's why we lost...IMO, it was just annoying to see Brady get ridiculously preferential treatment... If we want to look at reasons for losing, there are a few. 1) SJ getting himself benched. And subsequently Gailey keeping him out for the rest of the game 1a) I am assuming the Bills WANTED to lose for draft positioning, and possible leverage in contract negotiations with SJ. Personally I think the leverage aspect backfired, as it was clear how badly the team needs him. 2) The usual collapse of our inexperienced and poorly coached defense.
  15. Rushing Brady has seemed to work pretty well for the Giants... So basically you are saying that Brady and Manning are so good that we shouldn't even bother trying to stop them, just out score them? Two of the best QB's ever? I guess we have a fundamental difference of opinion, because I just don't see how that could work.
  16. This didn't have any effect on the outcome of the game, but it was still a BS call. Nothing wrong with talking about it.
  17. Yeah but my point is shouldn't the Bills want to be competitive anyway? What the "other teams" do, shouldn't determine whether we try to get better. We should be doing what is best for our franchise regardless. Actually, the fact that we would be playing against 2 HOF QB's would seem to indicate we need a pass rusher or another DB, more than a QB, if you were picking players in a "reaction" style
  18. Yeah even with all of the "Brady" rules, I still couldn't believe that call... 1) Florence "bumped" him legally from the side DURING THE RETURN 2) Brady is no longer a "QB" when pursuing a return 3) Florence was standing upright the whole time, and Brady basically flopped to the ground. There was nothing that could be mistaken for "driving the QB into the ground", even by the wildest imagination. If the ref really felt compelled to call something, call unsportsmanlike conduct (which it wasn't). 4) It was just a sorry excuse for a "call", and the ref's should be ashamed of themselves... 5) Clearly the protection for 1 specific player (Brady), is different than it is for the rest of the league...Which is simply ridiculous...That call would not have been made against any other QB.
  19. I'd love to get RG3, but I don't see how Peyton Manning has anything to do with that... Besides, let the Jets have Peyton, he's old and banged up. Best case scenario is you get a good year or two out of him and then you are back to nothing...Worst case scenario he can't throw well with a fused spine, or he has continued problems and can't play...
  20. No problem. Nothing wrong with being passionate about the Bills... At this point I don't care who the Bills take, I just want to see some success... I like staying in my skeptical, pessimistic shell, as soon as I start getting hopeful about the Bills again they always wind up and kick me in the nuts....
  21. Uhh, yeah, I've heard of the blitz. That doesn't change the fact that the Bills need a good pass rusher. You are saying we don't need good players if we just blitz all the time? Hate to break it to you, but that just won't work. Opposing coaches and QB's are just too smart for that. Blitzing can help, but it's not a cure all... I do watch a lot of college football, but this year I am not all that brushed up on top DE prospects. So to your point there may not be one worth taking with the Bills 1st pick, regardless it's a spot we need to fill if we are going to run an effective 4-3 base. Hey Cheddar..When replying to a post, try using the reply button, since you are talking to the wrong guy. Or at the very least, read carefully. I didn't post anything saying I wasn't interested in brown. Brown is interesting and seems decent for a 4-3 defense, but 230 is sounding a bit smallish for a high 1st round pick. Unfortunately combine numbers are far from a guarantee of NFL success.
  22. Yeah I hear you. If we could get RG3 or Blackmon that would be amazing, but I doubt we will. A franchise pass rusher has to be high on the list wants after that...
  23. I'll take your word on the prospects, for all the football I watch, I admittedly don't know a ton about the DE prospects this year. I do know the Bills should strongly consider them though... As far as Moats goes I don't ever see him succeeding at LB, especially in a 4-3. He one "upside" IMO, an ability to occasionally put pressure on the QB. In the open field he is a mess, takes poor lines, and is a very poor tackler. If a blocker engages him he almost never breaks free. I think the only place he would have a chance is as a situational DE, but probably a backup. Just my opinion though, I could be wrong. I'm with you on that, but with Wanny as the new DC it looks like we may be flip flopping back to a 4-3...
