  1. Did anyone else watch Whitner try to blow the SF game? There have been a lot of suggestions that Whitner is all of the sudden now good somehow, now that he is playing with some of the best defensive players in the league on the best coached team. Anyone who watched the 9'ers game this weekend would have seen the same thing from Whitner, that made him a liability as a Bills player. He landed a good hit early in the game...But late, when it mattered, he made two of the worst plays I have ever seen a safety make. The first go ahead TD, a 44 yard catch and run by Sproles, should never have happened. Whitner should had him dead to rights, but he went stiff legged and never even touched Sproles. Whitner can ONLY tackle by making a hit, he does not know how to take a line on a guy like Sproles and wrap him up, or at least slow him down. On the next drive, Brees hit Jimmy Graham over the middle of the field. Whitner again had him dead to rights, and made some embarrassing half leap and just flew right by him, allowing Graham a clear path to the endzone. Even the announcers were calling him out for it. If he had any ball skills he might have had a shot at picking it. Not really shocking he got beat by a TE though... This was all made moot in the game, by amazing clutch plays by Vernon Davis. This guy is scary fast for a TE, with good hands to boot. Had it not been for Davis, it would have made for some interesting Whitner threads on the SF forums...
  2. Very true...and this thread got me through the rest of my day at work...
  3. No worries, I knew how you meant it. Just couldn't help myself with the one line. I do agree with you though. This trade is probably not in the realm of possibility. It was a made up scenario, and all this is moot.
  4. Certainly I do like what Nix has done Guys like McKelvin, Maybin, McCargo, Losman, ect... Not so much.
  5. I was responding to exactly this and only this.. Your quote. For you to infer what you said above is incorrect. I never suggested similar scenarios to the FJ question. "NO GM IN ANY SPORT OF ANY LEAGUE ON EARTH would offer a first round draft pick for a player very near the end of his career." I was just providing examples to the contrary. Also in hockey there are trades every year with old players going for 1st round picks so that a team can make a run. The Bruins traded a 1st and 2nd for Kaberle midway through last year at the end of his contract. A player on the way out. All of the players I listed are probably closer to the end of their career than FJ. Of course no one knows when the end of their careers will be so this is all BS anyway. Why trade a player that is already good, at the top of his position for a player that may or may not ever be good. That's all I'm saying. Your point is reasonable, but I don't agree personally.
  6. I stand by I what I said, you don't have to agree with it. FJ was the best RB in the league when healthy last year, by far the most important part of this Bills team...Trade him for an arbitrary 1st round pick in this years draft? Top ten, ok maybe. But other than that why is that such a sure thing to you? Have you been following the history of Bills 1st round draft picks? Most of them have been complete failures in Buffalo. FJ is a proven top notch back. Seriously though, this is a make believe scenario, It's not an option. Don't get too worked up about it...
  7. There is talk Manning could go for a 1st A RETIRED Carson Palmer went for 2 1st round picks (potential, ended up as a 1st and second)... Just saying...
  8. I wouldn't do it. Sure the value would be great, but he has been our most exciting player since the 90's. I want him as a Bill. Age and all. Bills fans know better than most that 1st round picks are by no means guaranteed to be successful... Besides, it's not going to happen.
  9. You are right, I mistakenly took the comment about Merriman to be referencing the talks with Jackson. Thank's for the correction. With that out of the way it does look like Nix is sincerely trying to extend his deal. I agree that CJ looked good, and certainly made a huge improvement in play as the season went on. FJ or no FJ. The ideal situation would obviously be to have both of them, they both have their strengths. I just don't think you can abandon the power part of the run game, which FJ can provide.
  10. I don't know but I'm getting nervous that the Bills don't have much of an interest in signing FJ. They keep saying "well after he passes all of the physicals in the summer maybe, we'll see". By then he may just prefer to ride it out and play the market... As nice as Spiller looked at the end of last season, FJ was the best back in the NFL when healthy. Spiller has more speed, but FJ can break tackles, carry players down field, and run inside effectively where Spiller can't. I think the Bills O would be scary with both, but they NEED FJ IMO...
  11. I understand Dareus has high expectations, but to give him anything below an A- (yes, I know meaningless arbitrary grades) is crazy IMO. The guy was an absolute monster all year, and pretty much singelhandedly prevented us from having the worst defense in the league. Williams had to battle injuries, but when healthy he was an absolute stud. He was by far the best CB on our team when healthy, a future star IMO. Sheppard has a lot to prove, and struggled his rookie year. Rogers showed flashes of nickle CB ability, mixed with some impressive ST work. I kind of had high hopes for Johnny white, but apparently the coaches didn't think very highly of him. They gave him virtually no chances when FJ went down... Really? Florence and McKelvin were burned all up and down the field this season...Williams was the only one that DIDN'T consistently give up big plays. He had a tough day against the Pats (as did all Bills defenders), but other than that was amazing all year (when healthy) IMO. I think you guys have your CB's a little mixed up...
  12. Elda, let me ask you this...Do you actually watch the games? Seriously? How can you deny that SJ drops passes? If you form your opinions of a player solely by his stats, and not by watching him play then people are going to question your football knowledge... Also, when you title a rant like this, with all caps and an exclamation point, don't be surprised that people assume you are writing it from your moms basement as chandler suggested. Your point isn't necessarily invalid, but you presented it in a way that might tick some people off.
  13. I don't see anything wrong with his response...sounds like sour grapes...
  14. Yeah I think we are pretty much on the same page. My point was more aimed at the guy who suggested that anyone who thinks SJ dropped passes was flat out "wrong" because he found some numbers that suggest otherwise.
  15. A WR that can have huge days despite being double and triple teamed almost every play. Scores TD's, makes bad QB's look good. Doesn't "need" another good WR to draw away coverage. IMO, that's a true #1. Guys like Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Even AJ Green... The last two weeks from CJ may have been the most amazing WR performances I have ever seen. He constantly breaks huge plays, even though the defense knows he is getting the ball. 3 DB's at a time still can't stop him. Stafford can throw him the Ball anywhere in a 15 yard window knowing CJ will make the catch. He was just as amazing in college with mediocre talent around him.
  16. Just checking. I agree with all of that. Be prepared for TBD anger when the Bills draft a CB, even though it's needed...
  17. But Edwards was the ILB coach at Miami (The Miami LB performance has improved tremendously since he left), that's why we hired him...right? What a joke. I don't blame Edwards as much as the Bills FO for hiring him, the guy had no business being a DC...
  18. Again, I am a big SJ fan...Resigning him may be the most important thing we need to do this offseason. The guy is a very good receiver... But there is no doubt about it, he has questionable hands. That's all I am saying...Very good receiver with questionable hands. You are actually making my point above, that stats do not tell the whole story... Other very good receivers have been known to drop a lot of balls as well, such as TO, and Brandon Marshall. I don't see anyone trashing SJ here, but to ignore the obvious is silly...
  19. Corner is as good as gone, he was released last year anyway and only brought back due to injuries. On top of that The Bills have some decent young depth, and Gailey went out of his way to say he is looking for 2 more Corners...Corner is obviously not one of them. McKelvin is under contract, so I doubt they let him go...But it wouldn't be a surprise, or any great loss really. His best asset is as a KR/PR, why the Bill haven't used him more in that aspect is a mystery to me...And if they keep him, I'd have to think that is a reason why. Parish - Everything seems to indicate he is gone (about time IMO). The guy has flashes of talent, but he just can't overcome his size. The Bills lack of WR depth is the only thing that even gives him a chance to stay. I doubt the Bills cut Troup if he shows up to camp "healthy", but they probably should. I never thought he was good even before the injury, and the back problem is something that may never go away. Time to cut our losses there. Forget about Williams?
  20. Nuh Uh! According to the stats he catches almost everything...That must not have really happened...
  21. Disclaimer, once again I state that I am a SJ fan. But it is obvious that hands aren't his strength. Lol..wow what a statement. I am wrong that Stevie dropped a game winning pass against the Steelers last year? I am wrong that Stevie missed not one, but two game winning passes against the Jets this year? I am wrong that SJ dropped numerous passes on 3rd down, and a few in the endzone? No, all those statements are complete and accurate fact. Try again chief... There are always the "geniuses" such as yourself that want to base all of their opinions on "stats", and rate players based on numbers instead of actual play. The fact is that SJ routinely drops passes in clutch situations. This is common knowledge for anyone that actually watches him. Making opinions about players based solely on stats is completely asinine. Poz had 151 tackles in 14 games last year...He must have been an amazing pro-bowl LB right? WRONG. Why don't you try actually watching the games...
  22. I fully understand that. Saying you wanted the Bills to draft other guys is perfectly understandable, and personal preference...I was more questioning the "luxury" label. I just don't see how taking a top notch DB in the 2nd round is a luxury when we were relying on guys like Florence and McKelvin. All great points, and I laughed out loud at the ginger thing...
  23. I was not, and still am not a Mallet fan personally... If we are going to do the whole hindsight thing.. I was kind of surprised that the Bills went Sheppard instead of Houston in the 3rd round. The Bills had some ILB's, but were very thin at OLB. Houston was also a guy that some expected to be gone in the 2nd round, or even the 1st. My "hindsight" pick, would be Justin Houston over Kelvin Sheppard... He didn't exactly light the world on fire, and got off to a slow start. However he looked like a beast as the season went on, and finished with 5.5 sacks. Plus he's a guy that can play 3-4 OLB or DE.
