The last true defensive coordinator that we had. In fact if Wade had been our DC from 1990 to 1994, we would have won a couple of those SBs.
-
Why? Chan does not coordinate the defense and this defense is a huge problem by letting 30 points every game they have lost. HCs rarely fire DC middle of the season and in that sense Chan's hands are tied. I don't understand what HC qualities is he missing? From players comments, Chan is a strong HC that the players want to play for. I just don't get the hatred for Chan. He probably does head scratchers by not running the ball when his best players are his RBs. As he said, if a play works, then he is a genius and if does not, then he is a goat. That holds true for all NFL coaches. Tom Coughlin was in the hot seat before turning the team around on the way to the SB. I have no problems with Chan being the HC. The problem is that he has a weak defensive staff that cannot get the players to make plays.

Didn't Byrd also make it the same year (or was it 2009?) -
The Gun Show - Broncos Saints game

And so is Scott Chandler...Fitz needs to throw to him more often without worrying about Donald Jones. -
Our stud RBs will average 20 yards per game, as Vick will continue to run with the ball. The two best Decoy RBs in the league after LeSean McCoy

Why is it that Fitz gets all blame?
ganesh replied to UticaBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually this is another way of twisting statistics...While the Patriots were 31st in total yards defense, they were 14th overall in Points Allowed per game (21.4 points per game, while the league worst 30 points was by Tampa Bay). I think that is the most important statistics for a defense. Let us not compare the crap we have this year with that of the Patriots from last year. -
A Few Scattered Thoughts, on a bye week.....

And nothing else. And yet we were a yard away from taking a 21-7 lead over them... -
Change is coming somewhere in the NFL

The offense has not been a problem under Chan (Except for a few head scratchers). While Fitz has been streaky and is not an NFL starting caliber QB, he can manage the game, if he is not put in the position to win the game by himself. It depends. If the owner has already a buddy who wants to be the GM of a franchise, he is going to get it. Remember, even Mike Holmgren was run out of town in Cleveland (and in Seattle). We need a good defensive coordinator who can work with this team. Mike Nolan would have been a perfect fit as a DC. Unfortunately we picked Dave instead of Mike. -

That !

I don't think Chan needs to go as he has build a top-half offense, especially with two good running backs on the roster. The biggest issue has been this defense and we simply have not had the right coach to mold this defense.

3 Road games in November will decide the fate of this season
ganesh replied to ganesh's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly...Games against Miami (@home) and Indy are winnable, if this team puts head down and goes to work. Then they could really push hard on that home stretch of 5 games in December (4 of which is in Orchard Park). -
3 Road games sandwiching a single home game in November will decide the fate of this team this season. To make it worse, the Texans and Patriots are leading their division and the Colts and Dolphins are no joke. If the team does not get it together in this stretch, then the 4 games at home in December will be meaningless. That is why that loss to the Titans hurts really bad. 11/04 @ Houston Texans 11/11 @ New England Patriots 11/15 MIAMI DOLPHINS 11/25 @ Indianapolis Colts

The last time I saw our defense play with this kind of Charged up emotion was when we played the Cowboys a couple of years ago on Sunday Night Football in Buffalo. The crowd went nuts when Kelsay picked off a pass and rumbled into the end zone. Sadly we lost the game thanks to stupid decisions by Jauron at the end of the game.
-
And not to mention the Millions of dollars that he 'stole' from the Bills in signing bonus.
-
The question is: How much would that have gone up? Especially considering that at that point the Bills hadn't played anyone in the AFC East except for the home encounter with the Pats. Once again shows how poor the Bills front office has been at evaluating QBs.
-
Keeping Spiller on the sidelines is the only reason why the Bills have the other teams hanging in the game. If spiller is let loose, the game is over by the 3rd quarter. I am not saying that Jackson is not important. For example, if Jackson takes that hand off at the Patriots 5 yard line instead of Spiller, we are looking at a 21 point cushion.
-
My problem is that Gailey has had 2+ seasons to evaluate FItz and if he cannot open his play book for him due to all the restrictions you site, Nix and Chan should have spent the better part of the two drafts to get a starting caliber QB like a Dalton or Tannehill if that position was blocking them from being successful. Instead, we have had a RB, DT and CB to show up for three 1st round picks and a couple of turds at the 2nd round except for Cordy Glenn this year.

why not give brad smith a try?
ganesh replied to billsfan in n.h's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brad Smith is a better WR than a NFL QB. Let us leave it at that. -
Absolutely correct. All I was saying was that if the Bills find a franchise QB and if it requires giving up on additional 1st rounders, the Bills should do that. At this point their talent evaluation at the QB position is pretty suspect... 1. Made Edwards the starting QB (after training camp) only to dump him after 2 games. 2. Brought in Thigpen and he had difficulty learning the offense in training camp 3. Signed off Brad Smith for wild cat and have seen two floaters intercepted and nothing else to show 4. Traded for Tavaris Jackson (a suspect QB) and he can't even get on the field as the back up QB Missed drafting Wilson, Mallet, Locker etc. Not saying these players are going to have HOF careers, but they all could have made the QB position stronger (even if they were not starting today).

We simply have a bad Special Teams coach with no passion and a belief that he does not have players and plays scared....Nothing like the one he replaced...April always found a way to work his ST unit instead of throwing up excuses.

So was there any explanation about that pseudo first down?
ganesh replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If this had been the replacement referees, there would have been hue and cry about it from the Media. Just goes to show that the Media folks went on a witch hunt to ostracize the replacements officials and get the regular refs back on the field. But they make equally bad calls as the replacements. -
Run defense is still horrible. Why do we suck so badly against the run. Opposite RBs are getting 7-8 yards every time they touched the ball. Why can't we play run-defense like we did against Charles (Chiefs) and Richardson (Browns). Stopping the run is an attitude and it sets the tone for the defense.
