RUMOR: EJ Manuel Likely To Be Cut
Dorkington replied to negativo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll state again that this makes no sense to me. It'd cost us money to cut him, vs keep him on the roster as our 2nd or 3rd string QB. The talent pool available to us at QB is not much better than EJ, so why would we spend money to get rid of him and replace him with the same talent level? If he gets cut, there's something else at play behind the scenes, imo. I can see us grabbing a couple of the mid level guys and having them all battle it out in training camp, and maybe EJ loses, and then gets cut... but right at the beginning of free agency? Nope. Don't buy it. And this is all assuming that EJ is terrible, when in fact, he's pretty average when it comes to starting NFL rookie QBs, I still think he's played well enough in his young career, to deserve a chance at development. -
I have a feeling we'll be looking for a more athletic/h back sort of TE to pair with Chandler. At least that'd be my preference. Chandler is a solid TE, it'll be very unlikely for us to sign two TEs that are better than him in FA.

Regarding choice, I'd like to see more about the 90% stat. I have a suspicion it's one cable provider, and one dsl provider. In some areas, there's fiber, so hopefully that continues to expand as competition. For example, I can get Comcast cable, or Verizon DSL, that's it. In the ideal world of competition, I'd love to be able to choose from Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Cablevision, etc. And also have access to Verizon and Google fiber. But anti competitive measures on the local level keep that from happening.

I'm all for competition, but if EJ and McCown are close in camp/pre-season, we better start the 24 year old who has room to improve, vs the 36 year old who is what he is.

What would you call a monopoly in a specific region, and there being many regions in the country? I don't consider "provider choice" to be "just move to a different state".
-
Is there a good article on exactly what the negative impact of the new regulations will be? And what are the taxes? Everything I've read about Net Neutrality seems like it's a no brainer protection from local monopolies for consumers.

Hughes contract in the works according to report.

Ditto. Fed was on a 2 hour delay, but that's about it. I will say a lot of the side streets were slippery this morning, because the snow built up on top of ice layers that haven't had a chance to thaw. -
This guy is entertaining so far.. hope he brings success to the field next.

Guess we'll have to find a stat that tells us the level of inaccuracy on those throws, to see if it's possible for EJ to improve or not. -
RAMBO: Why we dont need to sign Searcy

Duke, Rambo, and even Graham, can fill the void, honestly. Especially if we're starting Gilmore and McKelvin, with Robey playing slot WRs. -

I guess if it's imperfect, I can't disprove the "fact" that accuracy can't be taught/learned. My apologies for wasting everyone's time. -

Matt Ryan Low (2nd) - 59/145 - 40.7% High (5th) - 109/199 - 54.8% Tony Romo 2nd* - 70/139 - 50.4% 10th - 70/133 - 52.6% (I was surprised to see, statistically, Romo has been pretty excellent ever since coming into the league, him choking late in the season really does give him a bad name overall) P. Rivers* 3rd* - 87/167 - 52.1% 11th - 96/196 - 49.0% * - first year playing significant time I used one of the suggested stats. I'm not sure what else you want from me. I have no clue if EJ will get better. I wanted to see if it was possible. R. Tannehill 1st - 69/153 - 45.1% (76.1 QBRating) 3rd - 77/173 - 44.5% (92.8 QBRating) Tannehill made +10% improvements in under 10 yard passes, and improved his TD/INT ratio, which brought his QB Rating up significantly -

ESPN splits That's really what I'm looking for... can a QB improve with accuracy? I still believe they can. Others say they cannot. Again, this does not mean that I believe EJ will or wont improve. I'd just like to see us give him a chance to, considering all the other realistic options out there are pretty much developed (been in the league a while) and about the same as EJ in overall skill. So might as well develop/see what we have with our young guy. That is, unless someone like Brees drops into our laps. -

Joe Flacco 1st year - 65/148 - 43.9% 4th year - 77/194 - 39.7% 7th year - 63/151 - 41.7% Interesting that he's gotten worse. -

Not sure where to find completion percentage to WRs... but ESPN's splits do have completion percentages for air travel... or at least thats how I read it. Alex Smith's second year (low point) - 11+ yards - 53/131 - 40.5% Alex Smith's eighth year (high point) - 11+ yards - 30/56 - 53.7% Will take quite a bit of time for other QBs, but is certainly doable to dig through. Edit: Looks like ESPN doesn't have these stats prior to 2002, so some QBs will be out for this... Eli Manning's first year (low point) - 11+ yards - 20/60 - 33.33% Eli Manning's eleventh year (high point) - 11+ yards - 93/180 - 51.7% EJ Manuel - 11+ yards 2013 - 34/87 - 39.1% (10 games) 2014 - 13/40 - 32.5% (4 games) Total - 47/127 - 37% (14 games) Not starting out great, obviously [/st. If you have a better statistic to use for this, I'd gladly use it. I just wanted to verify whether a quarterback can improve or not over the course of their career in terms of accuracy. I believe they can, but many state that it's impossible. -

I keep seeing this argument, that accuracy can't be coached/QBs can't improve accuracy. So for research sake, I want to see what we got here... this is not to say EJ will or won't improve, but rather, is it possible that he can? P. Manning - 1st year 56.7%, 2nd year 62.1%, high year, 68.8% (12th season), Imrovement 12.1% T. Brady - 1st year 63.9%, 2nd-4th years, went from 62% down to 60%, high year 68.9% (8th season), Improvement 5-8.9% D. Brees - 1st year 60.8%, 2nd year 57.6%, high year 70.6% (9th season), Improvement 9.8-13% E. Manning - 1st year 48.2%, 2nd year 52.8%, high year 63.1% (11th season), Improvement 14.9% B. Roethlisberger - 1st year 66.4%, 3rd year 59.9%, high year 67.1 (11th season), Improvement 0.7-7.2% A. Smith - 1st year 50.9%, 3rd year 48.7%, high year 70.2% (7th season), Improvement 9.3-21.5% Those are just a handful of names... Again this isn't to say EJ will improve with accuracy, but it does show that accuracy can improve. I suppose to be more accurate, I should have taken accuracy for the first 2-3 seasons averaged, and compared them to 2-3 most recent/prime seasons of QBs... hm.
