RD 3, Pick 81: OG John Miller, Louisville

I like the sound of a power guard. I know nothing of details though, as usual. -
RD 2, Pick 50: DB Ronald Darby, Florida State

Well that was not at all expected... and it seems everyone here hates it. Soooooo -
You know... that's not a bad point.

I feel like the time for partying has passed, the new season has started, he needs to be working not playing. But maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy.

The 1st player selected by the Bills will be...
Dorkington replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know nothing of individual players.... so I'll just go through my thought process: Areas of weakness: OL LB depth TE depth Part of me feels like the Bills want to see who they have on the OL, we spent three picks there last year, we have Glenn, picked up Incognito, and get Williams back this year. So even though the position is weak, part of me wonders if the Bills are going to "waste" there, or not. So maybe we'll go LB, right now we only have two starters (I assume we're still a '4-3' team, just lined up a bit differently). One could assume that Spikes would be back as a 2 down back, but there's no reason why he wouldn't have been signed. For TE, Clay was a good pickup, but after that we have Gragg and Gray, and neither are players I have a lot of faith in. Logically, I'd say we go with BPA, with it weighted towards the three positions above. A stud guard would be a big get for us, but so would a LB or TE. /ramble -
Was the trade for Watkins worth it?
Dorkington replied to Luxy312's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems that's part of the criticism.... that Whaley/the Bills suck because they traded for the 3rd/4th best WR, AND the fact that if they didn't, they would have gotten a crappy TE. We just suck all the way around apparently. -
EJ would be a 3mil cut, iirc
-
Definitely seems like he has a personal favorite. As long as whomever puts points on the board, and doesn't turn it over, I'm all in. Just hope it's a young guy!

I'm on track to hit the low side of what I need according to various calculators. But the plan is also to move somewhere with a dirt cheap cost of living. Frankly, though, I'll be surprised if I have anything when I retire. I'm generally not a lucky in life person hah

Was the trade for Watkins worth it?

The only benefit of Ebron + draft pick this year, is that it's cheaper than Watkins and Clay, money wise. So there's the possibility of signing some WR here instead... but, as it is, I'm happy with the Watkins trade for now. -
Not bothering, we already got a shorter recap here that states EJ is done, and it's the Cassel/Tyrod/Rookie show.
-
I mean, it could happen... but a little early to be making decisions, no?

Will you watch the 1st round of the NFL Draft?
Dorkington replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I never bother watching the draft... it's dragged out way too long. I'll just check out the board the following day, read up on which players/teams I feel like, and save multiple hours of my life. -
Glad he liked what he saw out of our top three guys. Hopefully EJ or Tyrod separates themselves from the pack, having a young QB perform well, and semi locked up would be huge for our team.

Marrone has really let the web people slip.

- What if said 16 year old grew up around fast cars, spent his childhood excelling at cart racing, and various other lower forms of motorsport? Sure, he lacks experience, and would probably need to develop his skills behind the wheel of a Ferrari, and maybe he'll never match his previous cart success, but maybe, just maybe, it'll click after a while, and he'll prove to be successful in driving said Ferrari. - I think most "EJ backers" care more about winning than EJ. They just see EJ as the best shot *right now* for the Bills to have long term success at the QB position, so they support him and hope for the best.

What change would you make if you were commissioner?
Dorkington replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm liking tech improvements, but I have a feeling it'll need to be tested quite a bit before being reliable enough for games. And also allow for eyeball reviews in case of tech that messes up. Say a sensor reads a touchdown, but everyone and their mother saw the ball never cross the plane, etc. -
We'll find out this season, won't we? To my eyes, he played his best games early in his career, and in 2 minute drill type of situations, when he played "looser". As time went on, he was either coached to be more conservative, or got the fear knocked into him, or a little of both. If he doesn't show improvement this season, then we are back at square one probably. I'm not making any grand predictions here... but EJ has just as good of a shot to develop as anyone we could draft this year, there are no guaranteed franchise starters that are going to drop to the second round. We go into the new season with a new offensive system, and an open competition, and hopefully someone shines. It'd benefit our team greatly if it's a young guy such as EJ, or even Taylor.

A. No, because their belief, needs to be proven, hence a competition. B. There aren't that many good candidates available, not sure what we've seen is scrambling. Orton was in a power position, he waited until near the start of the season because he *could* and took the best offer (the Bills). This year, the Bills decided to not deal with that situation again, and instead traded a low round pick to get it done and over with. I think what the Bills have done is very logical, considering their position. It's not like Rodgers is sitting there waiting to be signed by us. We need to understand that there are only 5-10 QBs in the league that can lead a team to the Superbowl... the rest are basically "game managers" that need an excellent all around team to play on, to have a shot. I think a lot of people are less "EJ Backers" and more backers of the idea that most QBs take time to develop, and they see potential in a player like EJ. He has physical tools, a strong work ethic, and seems to have respect among his peers off the field. On paper, he's a guy that could work out, and it's in the team's best interest, long term, that he does. If he doesn't, then we try again with a new rookie/young QB next year or the year after. Most teams go through this. The Packers getting Favre/Rodgers, and the Colts getting Manning/Luck is an abnormal situation in the NFL. Most teams swing and miss at the QB position more often than not.
