  1. I'm a believer in Gailey; However, he has bouts of AndyReidiosis where a mix of coaching hubris and ego and the "I've forgotten more about this game more than the coach on the other side knows" sneaks in to the game plan and you don't make the adjustments you think you should because you feel your plan is damn fine as it is. I think it happened last week against Cincy. I think it explains why we passed a helluva lot to the wide receivers, and we got away from pounding the ball with Jackson, got away from throwing to Chandler and not using Smith like we had used him in preseason. Of anybody on the team, I'm hoping that loss refocused our head coach into doing what got us those three victories. We didn't win by trying to air it out all day along the sidelines. I'll be upset tomorrow if we aren't hammering it up the middle and have Chandler exposing that weak Eagles linebacking corps and instead trying to prove a point by taking on Philly's cornerbacks.
  2. Saw where Garrard said no thanks too. While the coach may be bad and the team 0-4, second chances rarely come at the time and place of your choosing, Trent.
  3. With how soft the Eagles are in the middle, Jackson and Chandler should have all-world days. There is no reason why Chandler shouldn't have double digit catches tomorrow with a TD or two or three, and Jackson 150+ yards. I just hope Chan sticks to that plan.
  4. I disagree that it was a "missed" pick. The credit goes to the Ravens in player development. Cody was overweight and not in shape to play NFL football and the Ravens got him in shape and motivated.
  5. We only lose games when we're favorites.
  6. The defense lost their intensity. I really see it as the reason the defense let some of those big plays happen. The Bills are a team that has to outwork and out-hustle the competition for all four quarters. Apparently the new trend in the NFL is the "epic comeback".
  7. Would you rather lead the league in interceptions or sacks? Obviously both would be awesome, but if you had to choose? I can see pros and cons for each, but I'll take leading the league in INTs. An interception is a turnover. A sack may provide a turnover and a loss of yards, but the opposition, most of the time, will retain possession. I'm ok with a lack of sacks...what I'm not ok with is the lack of consistent pressure like the Bengals provided last Sunday.
  8. The only more Humpty Dumpty QB in the league outside of Tony Romo is Mike Vick. That guy is injured all over the place. He's not 100% for sure. I think with a barge of pain medicine injections, he'll be at 85% and he'll stay put together for a half. Fitz will have opportunities to throw and Fred will have opportunities to get his yards against this defense. Fitz will have the ball out of the pocket before Babin and Jenkins gets to him. This defense, especially with no Trent Cole, is nowhere near the ferocity of the Bengals defense. I think the key to the game is stopping the run by having Andy Reid remaining convinced to only pass the ball and just give up on running the ball. McCoy is a talented running back that is underutilized. Philly isn't going to pound your face in with a running attack. They live and die by going through the air. You can't ask for the table to be set any better. At home against an injury ravaged 1-3 team with a defense who's weaknesses compliment your offensive strengths in a ridiculously loud stadium.
  9. Every game on the schedule is winnable when the team shows up and is motivated to play. We can beat a Rex Grossman team. Yes, we can. We aren't talking Les Grossman, but Rex Grossman.
  10. The media sliding off the bandwagon is exactly what this team needs. Keeps them motivated. Fuels the intensity which is important for this team. When your team lacks superstars, you've got to win by outworking and out-hustling the opposition. If your team is fueled by a perceived lack of respect for skill and talent and claims the team is overrated or same ol' Bills, the last thing you want is to be respected and lauded for said skill and talent and that this is a new Bills era. You want that chip on the shoulder to stay there.
  11. Give me the Jets. I enjoy seeing the Patriots take as many shots as possible. Should the Bills remain competitive, and i have every expectation they will, the Patriots with two division losses is a big deal. I think the Jets are done in terms of true playoff aspirations. Nick Mangold's injury is the kind of injury that never fully heals without being off of it for a long time. He'll re-injure it in no time and be out again and it appears as if he is their offensive unit MVP.
  12. It is a campaign out of control. You have a select interest group spreading its influence into the game, and it's a slippery slope and frankly I see the NFL pandering to women with this pink stuff year after year. Where does it stop? Will teams be wearing dog-colored uniform accessories if the SPCA desires? Beagle-colored shoes? Gloves with the coat of a Labrador retriever? What if the armed forces want a special day? All uniforms wear various levels of camouflage from the branches of the armed services? "The Bills will be in Navy BDUs while the Bengals, well, will be in their standard uniforms...."
  13. I agree with other posters in that the defense lacked the intensity yesterday, and that was the key. When you are up 21-3, it's not a question of 4-3 or 3-4 alignments. It's about closing out a game. I hate to say it, but I think the team overlooked the Bengals. I think the defense rested on the lead, and Gailey pulled an Andy Reid and thought his game plan was superior and needed no changes. Atypical showing all around, hopefully. Success is dangerous. You tend to take a break, thinking you can get away with it.
  14. I don't care about Philly's cornerbacks. Philadelphia has no linebackers. Scott Chandler and Fred Jackson should be all-world next Sunday if Chan gets back to throwing to Chandler and running FJ. Of the 49ers 291 receiving yards yesterday, their TEs and RBs accounted for 154 of them. Philadelphia only plays about 2.5 quarters and packs it in and you can still beat them despite Vick throwing for nearly 400 yards. They have been outscored 36-0 in the fourth quarter over the last three games. It appears Trent Cole, Antonio Dixon and Jason Peters all were injured yesterday, with Cole's injury serious. As of 1130am, Cole is out for the Bills game. I don't take yesterday's loss too hard. If it refocused the team for the Eagles and Giants, good. I think the Bills ran into a Top 3 defense yesterday, something they won't face next week.
  15. A good learning experience. The Bills have to learn how to step on the neck of your opponent. In the first three games, they did not have to do that. The KC game was a runaway and the other games were comebacks. I think the team learned a lot today in the loss. I think the Bengals D will be the best we will see in the 1st half of the season. I'm not scared by the Philly or NYG defense.
  16. He is brutal as a commentator. I thought he single-handedly ruined the new uniform presentation.
  17. Excellent question. This game had an air of Andy Reid hubris from Gailey.
  18. It'd be reassuring for the Bills not to come out flat against the Bengals. I don't think Gailey and Company look past any team, but coming after back to back comebacks and a very huge win, there's potential for a letdown and the Bengals defense isn't all that bad. The Bengals are a nightmare on third downs. They've only converted two all season and can't convert worth a damn in the red zone.
  19. I'm glad he didn't hit Brady. Probably would have felt good to lay him out but emotions cost games. Just ask Vince.
  20. I agree with gobills. I think the Bills watched that Super Bowl tape and applied its lessons, and executed it, unlike the Chargers. (Who tried.) I'd expect a big blitz next weekend against a rookie QB.
  21. I wore no Bills gear on Sundays. Bills win games when I don't wear the colors. That being said, I watched this game from start to finish and I'm exhausted.
  22. Curry should never have been at OLB. Coming out of WF, his skill set was suited solely for ILB. Play him there and he's better.
  23. Merriman isn't doing less than what he did in San Diego. Really, he's not. San Diego's defense during Merriman's tenure wasn't all about sending the house, including Merriman to get to the quarterback because you didn't need to all the time. Sometimes you needed to stop the run like we have had to in the first two games. You don't blitz to stop the run. This week, you may see some more "house sending" but not all the time. A key game to watch or research if you have access is the 2006 AFC Divisional Playoff game between NE and SD. They got to Brady a lot and also intercepted him three times, but it wasn't wall to wall blitz. Half the problem was that NE had no idea when or where the blitz was coming from. You also have to remember that NE mocked his Lights Out dance at the end of that playoff game. I'm pretty sure he hasn't forgotten that.
  24. The Patriots are not unbeatable for many reasons already discussed, but I'd throw in one more, just for fun. Uniform Change Theory. It's clearly at work in Buffalo. If you are a failure, do a wholesale change to your uniform, and success follows. See mid 90s Patriots, late 90s Denver Broncos, mid 90s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, late 90s Titans, 00s Seattle Seahawks, current Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions. If you are a success, change your uniform, and misfortune follows. See early 00s Rams when they switched from the LA colors to the maize and navy. See the Seattle Seahawks significantly altering their uniforms for the 2008 and 2009 seasons with lime jerseys. There are many examples around the league, including the Bills. You do not mess with the cosmic forces of the uniform (and not the conspiracy of the NFL to sell jerseys and merch, don't be silly) when you are successful. You do not change the jerseys you wear to numerous AFC Championships and Super Bowl appearances. You do change the jerseys if you miss the playoffs for over a decade. It's going to be a weird season. It'll get even more weird on Sunday when the Bills beat the Patriots, due in part, to these forces in action.
  25. False flag operations in football...interesting. Not saying Chan isn't a bright coach, but to really execute an operation like this...where you keep Merriman and scheme in reserve because of a specific game, is a lot of risk most coaches would hate to take in games that count.
