I hope you’re wrong. You’ve got 2 potential studs still under 26 in Claypool and Hamler who if they hit could be every down WRs on our team or most teams in the NFL. They’ve got that kind of talent. MVS is almost 30 years old and a one trick pony. If he was great at that one trick I’d fall in line with a lot of the posts supporting him here BUT he’s a liability with how many drops he’s had. I really hope this is a fair evaluation and best man wins.

- His contract is nothing, 1 yr / $2,250,000 - 7 post season games with the chiefs, 15 rec for 250 yard (36yds/game) 🤷🏻‍♂️ - This can be done by Claypool or Hamler as stated before. I don’t think a one trick pony is a lock and I hope the bills FO and coaching staff feels the same way especially when he drops so many wide open passes. At least when Gabe Davis did it he would give his all blocking the next play and I’m not a Davis fan in the slightest. We’ll wait and see though maybe I’m overhyping what I think Hamler is and what claypool can be

What has he done to make you or anyone else think he’s a lock? If it’s truly an open competition and he’s on the team because he can take the top off the defense, then we’re still in wait and see mode because so can Hamler and Claypool. As of right now he is far from a lock in my eyes. Samuel, Shakir and Coleman are the only locks at WR. But it sure does feel like Hollins is a locker room guy the coaching staff won’t let wall. If all that is true then preseason has a lot to say about the last 2 WR spots. I’m hoping Mr. Drop doesn’t take one of those spots but if he earns it so be it

That’s a fair point that really it’s a three-way competition between MVS, Claypool and maybe Hamler. I just hope it’s one of the latter since their hands aren’t garbage. It’ll be interesting to see how they all perform in preseason.

Any other staff and I’d say it’s a certainty MVS isn’t making it with the rise of Shavers but I don’t trust our FO to make that call. Still holding out hope that during preseason Hamler, Claypool and Shavers make it obvious that MVS is expendable because I agree the guy drops way too many catchable balls to be dependable during the season. Let’s go with young guys with a lot of upside. We already have our veteran WR in Hollins

I’ve got a soft spot for jones because I remember how incredible he once was for Atlanta so here’s hoping he’s back to that level for us

My pre draft rankings and analysis below. He could be special but he’s far from a finished product. Definitely has a lot of traits us Bills fans are excited about. Tee Higgins is a fine comparison but hopefully he develops into a better overall WR than Tee.

I really like Hamler’s upside. He’s got special speed too. Ideally he and Claypool finally live up to their potential and make our team.

Seems like Hollins is a lock at this point. Hopefully it’s a fair competition between MVS and Claypool and I’m hoping Claypool, having the more upside to be special wins. MVS is what he is. He’ll have an occasional deep catch but drops too many catchable balls to ever be reliable.

I hope I’m wrong on Drake Maye. I know he went to the worst possible situation, but the kid is the best QB in this draft class and I hate that he’s in our division.

You can honestly say that Daboll, McDaniel and Pederson wouldn’t elevate Josh and the offensive to new heights? again it’s just my opinion but I’ve seen enough of what McD can’t do to know he’s not a top 10 coach. And all of the guys I listed would do better with the team we have.

100% He may be a good man and a great leader but his in game decision making is pitiful and costs us a few games each year, especially when it matters most. I can not overlook how he directly screws our chances at getting to the Super Bowl year in and year out come playoff time by his incompetence or lack of preparation and adjustment while Josh is putting the whole team on his back, playing out of his mind. I know under McD we will be steady and get our 10-12 wins each year but he’s not Lafleur or Andy Reid that are so gifted with offensive minds that he can elevate his teams play in big moments and make the proper adjustments when you have a less than ideal supporting cast to work with. Hes a fine coach but I can list 15 current coaches I’d rather have coaching Josh Allen now and come playoff time that I know wouldn’t botch things up like he has: 1. Andy Reid 2. Matt Lafleur 3. Sean McVay 4. Kyle Shanahan (don’t totally trust him in big moments but he’s a great offensive mind that would elevate Josh) 5. Dan Campbell 6. Jim Harbaugh 7. Kevin Stefanski 8. Mike McDaniel 9. Kevin O’Connell 10. Brian Daboll 11. Sean Payton (hate this guy but he’s a heck of an offensive mind and decisive in big games) 12. John Harbaugh (my first non offensive mind who is as steady as they come) 13. Shane Steichen (He’s the reason eagles were such an offensive juggernaut a couple years ago and the reason the colts gave teams fits last year with Minchew at QB) 14. Doug Pederson (see Sean Payton) 15. Mike Tomlin (basically McDermott without the stupid in game decisions) honorable mentions: Demeco Ryans and Zach Taylor are both better in game managers than McD any of the top 14 outside of John would elevate Josh’s game and we’d never have to worry about our offense drastically changing because our HC would be an offensive mind. I concede that this FO and ownership love and will go down in a blaze of glory with McD but I hate it because Josh is in my opinion, the best player in the NFL and what we get from McD isn’t enough to get Josh the title he deserves

I love Eric Moulds and Andre Reed but man getting an in his prime TO would be hard to beat. TO at his best is an all time top 5 WR even with the baggage

I don’t think we’re “better”. I think we’re deeper. This is how I see it: Last year This year Diggs Shakir Davis Coleman Shakir Samuel Harty Claypool Sherfield MVS Hollins Hamler Shakir is our #1 for this year and he’s earned that role even if he’s not built like a true #1. Will Coleman be the guy eventually? Maybe. He’s a big target that snatches the ball out of the air but isn’t a great separator just yet. Samuel is not special. He’s been the #2 or 3 option on every team he’s ever been on because he’s not a great route runner or even a deep threat (surprising for a guy who is so fast). He is a fun gadget player who is a way better version of what McKenzie was supposed to be. Claypool has the most upside of any player left and seems like he’s proving it in camp. I hope he finally puts it all together and isn’t just a nice preseason story. MVS is a deep threat who drops a lot of catchable balls. I don’t think he’s a lock to make the team but he’s a big deep threat so he’s safer than most. Hollins is the special teams dude captain that McDermott loves. On most teams he wouldn’t be a lock but he probably is with our safe conservative head coach. Hamler had all world potential. He is just never healthy. If he’s finally healthy I’d leapfrog him into the top 4 discussion because of his skill set to break the top off the d and ability to score a TD any time the ball is in his hands either punt return or catching the ball from Josh. it’s a much deeper WR room than last year which is good because of injuries but it’s not “better”. Diggs, even if last year was a down year, is a true #1 type WR who has mastered route running and outside of last year was always clutch in big moments. Hopefully someone steps up to be that guy this year but I was hoping we traded up for that guy in Odunze in the draft (not bitching because I’m sure it was discussed but too expensive) I am quietly optimistic about this years WR room but I am not expecting anyone to be a true #1 target at WR. If anything I think that guy will be Kincaid

He should have final word. McD doesn’t need to be involved in player evaluation, it’s not his job. He should be like most other coaches in the league and shut up and color during the actual draft since I’m sure months prior he told Beane what “he needs”

If any coach had Allen the drought would’ve been over. He is the best talent QB the league has ever seen. But I agree Chan was at least creative and would’ve been more successful than the current regime imo

I agree. Safety is fine and thank God Hamlin is probably gone. I do think Hyde would come back if needed and that gives me comfort come playoffs. He’s got a few good games left in him and would love for him to win a SB on this squad

If history is any indication it will once again be a pass rusher to be the “big money” free agent. We did it last year with Floyd and a couple years ago with Von. Would be awesome to go trade for a vet like Adams or Hopkins for Josh but I think Beane is happy with his one year rentals competing in camp. I agree on corner. I think we’re fine and Ingram has been being groomed for a couple years and showed well last preseason. We do have the rookie nickel corner to back up Taron so we’re fine there but I won’t complain if they bring back Gilmore on a year deal

True enough. I like the way he catches the ball. I believe he’s a natural hands catcher and it will translate very well. Not as many routine drops that we’ve seen from guys like Gabe Davis. Coleman wasn’t my favorite prospect either. I think he was #13 on my board but if the bills wanted a Tee Higgins type I’m fine with it.

That’s my bad I should’ve wrote this in my last post. I left off 2020 intentionally because that class has no barring on helping Josh now. Diggs and Davis are no longer on the team and rookie contracts are 4 years long (with the 5th year option). Where are all the rookie WRs we’ve drafted to develop with Josh the last 4 years? Shakir is it outside of replace our top 2 WRs with 1 Keon Coleman in this year’s class. And please no one give me special teams specialist Justin Shorter, who isn’t a legit NFL WR and wouldn’t have been drafted in this class. I do like that Beane brought so much competition with 3rd chance options like Claypool, Hamler, MVS, Hollins, etc but I think you do this on the defensive side of the ball where your head coach supposedly thrives at getting the most out of free agent players (Hyde, Poyer, D. Jones). You prioritize WR in the draft for 3 reasons: 1. WRs are crazy expensive once they hit free agency 2. If you draft multiple WRs each year for your franchise QB, you have cheap options that have time develop with your QB, not 1 year dart throws 3. When your best WRs do want to get paid and you don’t want to pay them, you have plenty of options waiting in the wings to step up and fill the holes (GB, Cincy and SF)

I think we’re going to be at an impasse on this. I think Beane has done the bare minimum to help Josh out with weapons while keeping him content. Table scrap signings of MVS and last chance Hail Marys in claypool are not how you build long term continuity for your superstar QB who is your only chance at winning a Super Bowl. I know Mahomes has won it with an offensive mastermind, the best offensive weapon at TE we’ve ever had in Kelce and a defensive genius who won’t ever get another chance to be a HC. So sure let them do their bare minimum at WR but that’s not how normal teams with franchise QBs operate. Cincy drafts WRs every year for Joe. 3 of the best offensive minds in the league in Mcdaniel, Shanahan and Lafleur consistently find new weapons for their QB early and often. Even the in the trenches former Michigan National Champion HC, Jim Harbaugh drafted 3 WRs for his new franchise QB this year. Now let’s look at our last 4 years big key free agent signing and also the first 3 rounds of each draft (because that’s where the starters are right?): 2024 - We lose our top 2 WR and had no one behind Shakir worth a damn on the roster at WR. Buffalo selects Coleman in the second round. The next 2 picks…defense. Safety Cole Bishop when there were plenty of cheap options still available in free agency to include the unsigned Justin Simmons. 3rd round we select a rotational DT after signing multiple DTs early in free agency to go along with our starters from last year, Oliver and Jones. No big money free agent signing this off season because of the cap. So end score defense up 2 and helping Josh 1 2023 - This year I have to admit was more Josh help in the draft. Kincaid and Terrence first 2 picks were slam dunks and the D got another LB in Williams. The big free agent signing was a $9 mil contract for Floyd but even with that I’d still make this a win for the offense (even though I was begging to sign Hopkins over Floyd…could’ve used him vs KC). All of the minor free agent moves for scrub WRs (Harty and Sherfield) didn’t work out and is another reason to throw darts in the draft at the position like GB and Cincy does year in and year out. 2022 - Defense rules the day. Elam and Bernard, first and third with a RB in the 2nd (I hate take RBs early but I’ve conceded that Beane is going to replenish a new RB every year somewhere between round 2 and 4 instead of getting more WRs). Cook has been a nice addition though even if he can’t catch a wide open TD pass to save his life. What was the big free agent addition this offseason? Von Miller 🥳…you’re welcome McD. The signing makes total sense because it’s not like you invested your first 2 picks on pass rushers the year before…Defense killed this offseason 2021 - Round 1 DE Greg Rousseau, Round 2 DE Boogie Basham, Round 3 OT Spencer Brown. Besides resigning Milano there wasn’t a big money free agent I can find from this offseason. But again pretty obvious defense was the flavor of the offseason. The priority is not Josh and it needs to be.
