NeverOutNick's First round QB rankings
NeverOutNick replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
You’re not wrong. He’s got all the physical tools you want in an NFL prospect but he’s too inconsistent and inaccurate to be seriously considered as a day 1 starter. Some team may reach on his potential but he wasn’t able to do it under Harbaugh so I have a hard time believing the light will suddenly click on when he gets to the NFL -
NeverOutNick's First round QB rankings
NeverOutNick replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
I hope if he ends up with NE that both of you are right on Nix. Since his Auburn days when he was immature and chaotic, he has grown into a real NFL QB. I’m very impressed with him and am totally comfortable standing on an island with my take. He’s going to succeed -
I absolutely love this QB and WR class! It's such a unique and deep year at both positions for potential franchise changers. Not to toot my own horn but I've been more right than wrong on QBs and WRs since doing my scouting. The only 2 QBs I loved in 2018 were Baker and Allen (sorry Lamar I was happily wrong). Baker had some of the best ball placement I've ever seen from a college QB. He led his WRs the same way Stroud did and unlike Stroud in College he did well going through his progressions so even though he was cocky his floor was always high. Allen was a unicorn with his Big Ben frame and howitzer for an arm, he had 0 reliable weapons at Wyoming but you could see the potential oozing and thank God it worked out better than we could have imagined. I loved Russell Wilson coming out and thought wow the Bills brought him in for a visit so we may finally have our guy, but then we didn't take him after 3 rounds and although he is what he is now, he's had a great career. Now on to this year... There are 2 glaring things I want to point out about this year's QB class. First off, there are 5 first round QB prospects that all have potential to be franchise QBs in this league. Secondly, there is NO ONE in this class that is a sure-fire homerun/can't miss prospect like Joe Burrow was a couple years ago. Not one of these guys has Burrow's accuracy and precision with leading WRs or even his ability process information so quickly to make the right decision. Maybe one day they will get there and it's still the best class I've seen in a while, but expectation need to be tempered because I couldn't see one of these guys going to the 2020 Bengals and making them an instant playoff team like Burrow did. Most of the QBs will need the right situation to fully develop into the franchise QB they can be. I did not go into detail with QBs like JJ McCarthy, who I don't believe is a first round QB (I've watched Michigan too much the past couple years and he's way too inconsistent for me to risk taking early) or any of the other lower ranked guys because I don't see enough promise in any of them to be franchise guys in the NFL. Without further ado here's the rankings and explanations of my 5 first round graded QBs: 1. Drake Maye – When I watch Maye this year it reminds me of Herberts final year at Oregon. Both of them had incredible penultimate campaigns that if they could’ve/would’ve come out you’d have a hard time not making them the #1 overall pick BUT their final college years opened a lot of questions about decision making. Maye threw a lot of balls this year that killed drives and made me think what the heck are you doing dude but when he was dialed in there was no one better in this class. Maye has everything you need and want in an NFL franchise QB. He’s huge with no limitations on his arm manipulating defenses with arm angles and strength even with bad footing. He can use his legs in key moments and is willing to carry his team on his back. His physical tools are unmatched and his ability to go through progressions are good for a college QB but his timeliness and anticipation on throws are make him stand out to me. He’s got traits of the elite guys playing today to where he can make something out of nothing and if he gets someone like Brian Daboll to refine his inconsistencies, Maye's ceiling is a top 5 QB in the NFL. He has that ability to process new information and get better and you see it in the middle of a game when he recognizes a defensive alignment he's seen earlier and makes the right adjustment. He seems like a smart dude, and it would suck if he went to a team with no offensive direction to be in the same undeveloping purgatory that Herbert had been in the last few years. One thing that can't be measured from our couches is scouting is a player's work ethic. You can see his heart and confidence on the field and after the game but work ethic is a huge part of a QBs success and an element we won't be able to know because we're not paid scouts talking to his coaches and teammates. I hope all of these guys have a great work ethic because it could be a special QB class. For a guy sitting on his couch evaluating college QBs the last 25 years, I believe Maye is worth the risk as the #1 QB in this class. I think the elements that he is lacking are very coachable unlike some of the other prospects below. 2. Caleb Williams – He throws with very polished touch, which is hard to teach, and you know the WRs appreciate it. Great athlete who runs so smooth. He is fun to watch, and whichever team gets him will have huge ticket sale increases because he’s an instant star. He’s got Allen and Mahomes type ability to avoid the sack and throws well on the run keeping his eyes downfield. But that leads me to my biggest negative with Caleb. Matt Miller said it best, “He leans into the spectacular, he won’t take the layups”. He plays hero-ball all the time even when there is a clean pocket, and he doesn’t need to do that. In college this worked a lot but, in the NFL, if he doesn’t learn to take what he’s given early and often he will have a short career. It may be unfair, but I wonder if he relies on his unmatched athleticism to make up for his deficiencies at reading coverages both pre snap and early on during the play. He will instantly make any team better the second they draft him, but my unpopular take is he may not live up to the enormous hype that has been put on him. If Caleb wants to transform into a franchise QB that could potentially be a top 5 QB in this league, he needs to go to the right team with the right offensive minds in place to help him play with more anticipation. He really needs to learn the intricacies of being an NFL QB because right now it's a lot of video game highlights and not a lot of smart decision-making that gets a team deep in the playoffs. He has the Mahomes and Allen ceiling, and thankfully for them they had Reid and Daboll to get them to where they are today. If he doesn't land in the right situation Caleb has the low floor of a Jonny Manziel (I don’t believe he’ll ever be this bad) who just doesn’t get it at the NFL level. 3. Bo Nix – I love Bo Nix. He’s my dude and to be totally honest if I were a GM and was a QB away from being a contender, I'd take Nix over Caleb. I almost ranked Nix over Caleb because I know and love what I'm getting with Nix, but Caleb has that unicorn potential so I'm hoping I have the right people in place to get the most out of him. Bo is a seasoned veteran coming in as a rookie. He’s so consistent and smart with the football. Unlike Penix, if Bo’s first couple progressions aren’t there, and the pocket breaks down he has the mobility to make something happen and has really good accuracy on the run. Bo is a very good athlete and man can he run. He’s not silky smooth running like Caleb or have the video game moves of Jayden but I still bet he runs under a 4.6 at the combine. He doesn't have the same arm strength as Maye, Penix or Williams but he can make every NFL throw that is needed. His progressions and rollouts remind me of Burrow. He’s not Joe Burrow but he’s the closest thing in this draft to him. Burrow was so refined and no moment was too big for him and his accuracy was unmatched. With Nix it's not as sexy to watch but he has that same "it" factor and his play in big moments is Joe Burrow lite, for lack of a better description. Nix is a winner, he's gritty and whatever fan base gets him, they will instantly love him. I believe my top 3 QBs are the guys worth taking in the top 5. The next 2 are first round talents but have limitations that these 3 don't. 4. Michael Penix Jr – This dude is Tua with a better arm. Guy has a great arm and throws the prettiest ball in this draft. Penix has a great attitude, personality and never give up persona that teammates and fans are going to gravitate to. Love a lot about Penix and the only reasons he’s not ranked higher is because he is the least mobile of the top guys and NEEDS a clean pocket to succeed. He's the closest thing in this draft to Mayfield and Stroud's ability to lead receivers open with his throws, but he's not that good. I love his composure in the pocket. He will stay in the pocket until the last second to make the right throw and he makes it more often than not. He trusts his WRs to make plays. If he has an all-pro offensive line, the dude is going to thrive and could be the best QB in this class. If his first couple reads are open, he’s unbelievable but has trouble when he has to progress further than that and isn’t great going off script or extending plays, probably because of his limited mobility. I can see him being a very successful top QB in this league if he goes to the right team like Minnesota with the offensive coach, great weapons and a really good O line. I’m not as concerned about his age or injury history because of what kind of QB he is, and his style of play should last for 10+ years. He doesn’t have a low floor or a high ceiling but we’ve seen less mobile guys have incredible careers a la Peyton Manning. 5. Jayden Daniels – Great college QB and will probably go down as one of the 10 best college QBs of all time. Uses his legs better than any QB in this class. If he goes to a team that knows how to use his strengths, he is going to be a nightmare to scheme against. He is not in the same class of an athlete as Lamar was coming out (no one is) but I’d say he’s a better athlete than Kyler Murray and a better thrower than Lamar was coming out. He can throw the deep ball well, but he’s not great at going through his progressions. He doesn’t have good accuracy with short and intermediate throws. I believe he would take the most time to develop out of the 5 QBs listed but you can still win with him now. If you're drafting Daniels, you'd have to know that when he’s your franchise QB you’re building around what he can do best which is throw the deep ball and make plays with his legs because everything else is not NFL level at this point. I would not draft Jayden in the top 10 but if my head coach wanted him and convinced me we had great offensive minds that could develop Jayden than I could see a path similar to Lamar Jackson, in which he will be successful. I'll finish my deep dive into the WR class later this month...

Sounds like even in your hypothetical we know where the problem lies. It’s painful to watch other teams totally deflate in big moments to a chiefs team that honestly isn’t Super Bowl level. 9ers were the better team last night but Shanahan and Purdy went away from what was working and let the chiefs be the chiefs. They clawed back into it because they were allowed to do so. I wholeheartedly know that McD is not the guy Josh needs to reach his promising potential as an all time great but it’s more about how lucky Mahomes is that he gets to have such great leadership in the chiefs organization from Owner, GM and of course Reid and Spagnola’s never wavering leadership and game management in these playoffs. McD is awful in the areas that matter most and will always find way to help his lackluster defense instead of putting his pride aside and giving the only reason we make the playoffs every year, Josh Allen, everything he needs to take us to the promised land. I hope one day we’ll get there but it sucks to go from the last couple years of knowing Josh Allen WILL make our Bills a consistent Super Bowl dynasty to now realizing Pegula is perfectly content with McD and even Beane selfishly handcuffing this organization to a different more enjoyable level of the drought years. Diggs realized this last year and I believe Josh knows it too but will never say it. I hope he can hold on another year and stay the rock we need until a change is finally done. He deserves better
-
Hope I feel different in the morning. Probably just sad to see the Chiefs win again because of great coaching. It sucks to be this much of a realist now. I liked being the Bills fan who was riding high on Josh Allen mountain knowing we would win a Super Bowl “next year” BUT I now FINALLY realize I get to feel the same agony that Diggs knew last year and I’m sure Allen knows now deep down inside. No matter how magnificent that Josh mountain looked it keeps sinking under a massive McD ocean that will never dry up. I know how magnificent that mountain is but the waters keep growing all around it…it just keeps pouring down on that mountain sinking deeper and deeper in that endless boring ocean. If only there were a drought to dry it up and let the beautiful mountain sore sky high again…maybe one day soon my fiends. But until then I can live a dreamless season knowing the ocean will still be there in the morning hiding the promise of that astounding mountain
-
What? I didn’t get that at all. Maybe Diggs will be gone, complete turnover of coaching staff and FO and every other player will bail at some point and if so good riddance BUT Josh will be a Bill for life. Even if he wanted to leave there is no way Buffalo would ever let him. Letting him leave would be the most foolish decision a team has ever made in the history of the NFL. Franchise tag after franchise tag if need be lol.

Man I love Josh! He still holds the grudge against John Elway for passing on him. He’s got the fire when asked about seeing Mahomes in SB again but always keeps his composure even though he touches his chin with irritation that he knows he should be playing this week. Wouldn’t trade Josh for any other QB in this league.
-
Watched some of Jerry’s son. He’s not my favorite prospect but what I do love is that he played with Caleb Williams, who likes to go rogue and play off script. Rice is great at finding those windows for his QB when he’s under duress. Probably got some good coaching from his dad
-
Love me some Franklin so I’m right there with you. I’d be happy with Thomas too but Franklin is my preference as well. Hopefully he falls right in our lap
-
You’ve usually got a good eye so I’ll watch him some more. He’s definitely dependable with his hands being the biggest asset but when watching the Huskies, he was clearly the robin to Odunze’s Batman and that doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies on his future of being a #1WR. But I’d take him all day in round 2
-
I totally agree on Franklin and I see your points on Thomas but I do think there is room to grow with him because he’s such a rare talent (unlike Hyatt who was slim and just a one trick pony last year). Polk is the guy I don’t think will be a #1. He’s an awesome #2 even on Washington’s squad but he’s not great at separating because he’s an average athlete. He’s got great hands which I love and can make the contested catch but he’s not the elite 1 we need even though I’d take him as a 2 all day
-
I get the argument but there are plenty of WRs in the NFL and even in this draft who are tall, good route runners and get constant separation like Cooper Kupp and Ceedee lamb and I think AD Mitchell does a great job of getting separation with his size. The other guys I mentioned in the draft are more robotic in their transitions and you may be right it’s because they are so tall and not as fluid because of that

What are your feelings on James Cook RB1
NeverOutNick replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think he’s built like Gibbs but doesn’t play like him. We can disagree, I see what I see and I hope he grows into an all around back because he has the potential to be special. I also wouldn’t just assume he’ll get there and would draft a RB late that can do what Cook can not yet -

I’m driving to work right now so I can’t look up stats (I will say who gives a rip about the old decrepit version of Derrick, Henry and his season this year). We are not watching the same guy week in and week out if you think he’s good running between the tackles. If the o line opens up a hole for him sure, but as soon as he gets touched he falls down. He’s a dynamic weapon for us but a big part of that is because we have the presence of Josh Allen, who can and will run up the middle on short yardage situations. Watch Jamir Gibbs, he’s still not all the way there but he can do it all, outside inside, pass catcher, whatever you need and I don’t feel the same way about cook yet. He doesn’t have that fight to get the extra yards that makes teams crowd the box in short yardage situations. The team knows that and that’s why they bring in guys like Latavius Murray and Leonard Fournette. I’m sure the scouting department is finding a younger version we can take late in the draft to fill that role. -
What are your feelings on James Cook RB1
NeverOutNick replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
Even if he is himself “fine” with getting hit, his body folds easier than a worn out cardboard box when he’s slightly touched. Great acceleration and lateral quickness and pretty good vision but not the guy you want running up the middle fighting between tackles…at least not right now. Like I said previously, he is our Edwards and we need our corum, if you’ve watched Michigan‘s running game -
I said “after” next season. Meaning he will be here next year with Shakir to show the ropes to the incoming rookies and still be the de facto “#1” guy this coming season. I believe mostly because of his contract, and hopefully because we hit on a couple great rookie WRs, that next year will be his last in Buffalo. It’s not a bash on Diggs, it’s just a smart way to do business. We shouldn’t be held to the fire every year to solely depend on one WR being our main contributor on offense. I love what GB has done and believe we should do the same and this is the perfect draft class to do it in I’m on board with this thinking and I like dunervay a lot, if he’s not expensive but I’m not hamstringing us to say ONLY 2 WRs in this draft. It’s a loaded class so if we get 3 or 4 then they must be pretty awesome and displace guys that shouldn’t be on the team, regardless of their previous draft status like Shorter. Get the best players at the cheapest cost to help Josh out, that’s it

What are your feelings on James Cook RB1
NeverOutNick replied to BillMafia716ix's topic in The Stadium Wall
Gibbs is capable of being an every down RB. He fights for extra yards and doesn’t go down once he’s touched. I like cook in this offense but if you have watched Michigans offense at all he’s our Edwards and we need a Corum -
He’s basically a younger, faster, bigger Diggs. Would be happy if he fell to us
-
How you going to roll your eyes at my comment and then basically say the same thing 😂
-
I really like Mitchell as well but you can see that he takes plays off and I think that’s what scares people. He’s got crazy upside though kind of like George Pickens so as long as he shows NFL teams, he’s gonna try hard every play I think he’s capable of being a stud in this league. worthy is the opposite of Mitchell to where he is all effort with crazy speed, but he’s just a little dude that can’t take a hit so although I think he’s great with ball in his hands and can take the top off of the defense, I don’t think he’s a number one wide receiver I’m getting closer to having my WR rankings but like I’ve said before this is an unbelievably deep and awesome WR draft so we better take a couple. a few side notes: - I don’t give a rip how bad Tez Walker was at the senior bowl. The dude is a beast and once he’s refined a bit, he’s a true #1 WR. I’d love if he fell to the 2nd round and we snagged him. - we’re not getting the top 3 guys (Harrison, Nabers and Odunze) they’ll be taken top 10 and Beane won’t trade that much capital away even if all 3 are worth it - Franklin is my favorite guy for where we pick in the first round, he’s got the speed, separation early and hands that we want and he can win in the contested catch the department because he’s great at high pointing and timing his catches. But I just wish he was built more like Thomas and Nabers instead of a taller Diggs. I keep telling myself production matters more than how they actually look - I think Coleman and Leggette are fine big WR 2s but I don’t like them for the bills (at least not with an early pick). Neither is great at separating and that to me shows they’re not great route runners. They fit the Higgins role and not what I’d want in my first rd WR

Sexy Rexy interviewed for Cowboys DC position
NeverOutNick replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly Rex and the talent the cowboys have are a match made in heaven. Would be a great hire since he’s the D coordinator only and no chance as a head coach which he’s awful at -
Not my problem Beane and his crew need to find the bargains. I just know I’m not gonna waste draft picks on guys who aren’t worth them just because it’s a need. I’d rather get a lot of wide receiver talent in a draft class that is overwhelmed at the position. also, I do trust Beane when it comes to the cap. He will do his magic with Josh‘s contract and a couple others to get us where we need to be for the season.
-
Disagree this is a very deep WR class. 2 WRs at the very least, screw FA WRs. Shakir is the only guy guaranteed to be a contributor at WR after next year on our team right now. Shorter isn’t an NFL WR (hope I’m wrong) and in this draft (and honestly even last year he shouldn’t have been) and wouldn’t be drafted before the 7th. I love Diggs but who knows what his future will be. It’s time to get younger and throw a lot at one of the deepest positions in the class. No reason to just plug holes in a class that doesn’t have great depth or talent at DL or S. Those positions just patch those holes with FA options for now and readdress later if need be. With great talent or average talent the D will still be what it is under McD in the playoffs. We win a Super Bowl because of Josh and this is the time to get Josh all the help he needs (maybe a couple years too late) and the perfect class to do it in
-
I really do like him, but I would like him more if he was our number two possession wide receiver that we take in the second round after we got our game changing WR that is a matchup nightmare in the first lol. It’s a pipe dream but hey I’m a Bills fan so I can fantasize If we came out of the draft with Troy Franklin 1st round, Ladd McConkey 2nd, BPA (hopefully S and DL) 3rd and 4th round and then nab Luke mcCaffrey in the 5th I’d be out of my mind ecstatic. Josh is the hands down favorite for MVP the next few years lol
