  1. The 30th pick is almost the 2nd round. Often there aren’t 32 “first round talents” in a draft. The 30th pick is almost the 2nd round. Often there aren’t 32 “first round talents” in a draft.
  2. Such a move would likely cost the Bills’ 3rd round pick this year. That wold leave them with no picks for all of the 3rd and 4th rounds. That is too big of an investment, in my opinion. I like Collins, but are you going to play him at DE with little tape on him playing that position?
  3. Not completely ruined, but cast away to the scrap heap before finding success later on good teams.
  4. Again, OL run blocking was pretty bad last year. You might note that Etienne “regressed” statistically last year with a lesser OL than he had year before.
  5. Allen was exciting early, but do you not remember the low completion %, I’ll-advised prayers that he heaved or the panic looks when he could not find anyone open? I disagree - did you see Dennis Shaw getting destroyed behind a bad Bills OL or Dan Pastorini in Houston or Jim Plunkett in NE?
  6. Singletary has become the latest TBD whipping boy. It is an honor that has been bestowed on some really decent solid pros like Chris Kelsey and Shaw Lawson more recently. Singletary was a a 3rd round pick who had a very good rookie year, but did suffer behind an OL that never settled in last year due to injuries and position swaps. I don’t know why people seem to love to zero in on a particular player and decide that he deserves to be berated by fan board “experts”. It seems to feed on itself as more people join into “player x sucks” and becomes emotional. Is Singletary the best RB in the league? No. Does he suck? I don’t think so. I think he has performed pretty close to expectations for his draft position.
  7. Yes, but you don’t want to reach for a lesser prospect at a “more valuable” position either. A so-so DE prospect isn’t (necessarily) a better pick than a very good prospect at a “lesser” position. To be clear, I am not advocating for Harris or Etienne.
  8. I’m not a card carrying member of the “never-rb-in-first” club. I am just not sold that Harris (or Etienne) are really likely to be elite in the NFL.
  9. I won’t be distraught if they pick Harris, but I am skeptical that he will be more than an average NFL back, especially with the Bills weak run blocking OL. With the re-signing of Williams and Feliciano, it isn’t likely that the run blocking is going to be much better in 2021.
  10. I can’t tell if Harris is really good or not. His OL was so dominant that he was untouched on many big plays. He will definitely not be running through holes like he had at Alabama anywhere in the NFL and for sure not behind the Bills’ OL.
  11. He did not opt out this year. He played 7 games in 2020 and produced no sacks. For sure the athletic ability is there, but will he ever be a very good DE and pass rusher? I am not opposed to the Bills selecting him, but he would definitely be a risky pick based almost entirely on his potential over his little production. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jayson-oweh-1.html
  12. We are aligned - I was just pointing out that this year is a little different from the perspective of having limited in-person access due to COVID. I also imagine that Gil Brandt is no longer grinding through hundreds of hours of tape on these prospects, but I do think he watches some. My interest is mainly in how connected he likely is to people in the league.
  13. Except in this case scouts had limited or no opportunity to see him in person - only on tape. Likewise, scouts and GMs likely haven’t talked with him in person (maybe by Zoom) due to COVID.
  14. Gil Brandt’s top 100 draft prospect list has quite a few differences from many others. Interesting read from a guy who had decades as an evaluator and is likely very well connected (still) in the league. https://www.nfl.com/news/gil-brandt-s-hot-100-1-0-top-prospects-in-2021-nfl-draft-class
  15. If Bama is drafting, they have the entire first round of picks...
  16. The difference between a QB looking “ok” with poor to middling receivers and very good with some real weapons can be surprising. See how much better Josh Allen was when he got some receivers who could get open frequently?
  17. Character and process are different. If he is a hard worker and dedicated to football, but is an a*s, that is process compatible, but character concerning. I'm not advocating to draft or not draft him.
  18. I bet that CJ Spiller is still pretty fast... Speed is only one part of being a good RB. I'll grant that with the more open NFL offenses of today, that speed is a big advantage - if you can get into the open field.
  19. Freiermuth is big and has good hands, but he is definitely not a "dynamic speed weapon". For as big as he is, I haven't seen him described as a particularly good run blocker. He can still be a decent player at TE, but I don't see him as a great game-changing TE. Maybe something like Pete Metzellars was...
  20. I think this is not a good year to be looking for a 4-3 DE.
  21. Problem is, who is it that really helps them this year? The pass rushers are all risky prospects, no TE within any reach is that good after Pitts, and I don’t thin a RB makes much difference with this OL.
  22. If the RB is a pass receiving threat, maybe. I just think that the run game woes were due to terrible blocking, rather than Singletary and Moss. If my view is right, then an early RB would likely suffer same fate of being hit in backfield frequently.
  23. We got pick 27 and future 1st in the 2017 trade. What I speculated on was pick 30 for a 2022 first and 2021 3rd. Given Bills needs: DE, TE, CB - I don’t see any help, except at CB, available at pick 30. Who in this draft is worth that? Nobody that I can see...
  24. Looking at pick 30, it doesn’t look like there will be a decent pass rusher available and it seems too early to take an interior OL. What would people think of trading out for a 2022 first and maybe a 2021 3rd? Thought process is that any 2022 pick is likely to be earlier than #30 and DL prospects are weak this year. Thoghts?
  25. Excellent points on the shelf-life of Sanders and Beasley.
