Bills re-sign Feliciano

I guess, but if Singletary played well as a rookie and not last year, what was the reason? -
Bills re-sign Feliciano

Even bruising RBs need some blocking to get a head of steam up. If the plan is to find a power back to fight for a yard after being hit 2 yards behind the LOS, then I don’t agree. -

Boy, I guess that I think that Singletary is better than that, but I have been disappointed with his hands in the passing game. If they dump Singletary like you suggest, who is playing RB besides Moss? Do you think they are in the market for a RB in the draft? -

Happy they have him back, but I agree that I don’t see how this improves the run game, unless they think the problem was mostly due to injuries last season. -
I’m not as down on Knox as some here and I don’t see a TE who will be available in the draft that is likely any better than who they have. Additionally, if you get a TE who catches tons of passes, those receptions will be taking away receptions from Diggs, Beasley or Davis as they already are very unbalanced in pass to run ratio. I would love a top TE here, but I don’t want to allocate too much $ or draft capital to the position, either, unless you can get a true game changer and there are only a handful of TEs fitting that description.

Unfortunately, the DE class is kind of so-so and late in round 1 it will have been pretty picked-over. At 30 for DE, I think you can find low floor/high upside guys like maybe Jason Oweh (who had 0 sacks this year) or maybe Azeez Ojulari - or you can find an edge setter like Carlos Basham. I think you’re lucky to find as good a prospect as Shaq Lawson was this year and that late. I suspect that there will be better players available at other positions than DE.

While I am in the minority who value RBs, I don’t think that the Bills’ run game woes are attributable to the backs that they already have. Unless you can find Barry Sanders in his prime, the OL run blocking needs to improve in order to have a better run game. Way too many times, Moss and Singletary were hit or trying to avoid contact behind the LOS. A his end FA or draft pick at RB doesn’t solve that problem.

Breaking: Daryl Williams signs 3 year extension
OldTimer1960 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love this and the Milano re-signing. Two would-be holes closed before they were created. They certainly have spots where they could upgrade or add depth (DE, CB, OL depth or improvement, TE), but they really are in a position to take their highest graded players in each round of the upcoming draft regardless of position. -

Except the Bills are very tight on cap space and they haven’t even opened the Brinks truck for Allen yet. -

Where would you play Collins? He is big enough to play 4-3 DE, but is he good enough there for pick 30? I know the league is moving more and more to positionless D, but I guess that make me uncomfortable. I am in the group that thinks RBs are NOT a dime a dozen, but I think the Bills’ OL is a much bigger problem in the run game than Singletary and Moss were. I think you would be wasting a year or more of the short RB career of a top back behind this OL and that is before we know if they will lose one or more starting OL in FA. -
Would Dickerson even play at all in the upcoming season after tearing his ACL in January? I’m all for getting a good player at a bargain point in the draft, but I don’t think pick 30 is a bargain for a guy who would miss much of his rookie year. Now, at Bills’ 2nd pick I would be interested. Does anyone have medical reports that say he would be ready for the season?

Trade up or trade back in this year’s draft?
OldTimer1960 replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can align with your general strategy, but I think what you expect in return is a bit optimistic. Are you saying pick 30 for a mid/high 2nd and equivalent 4th? If so, that might be possible. Except the OL was not good enough last season (especially run blocking) and they are likely to be looking for a starting RT and backup swing tackle in the draft. -
I would be shy to take a guy coming off ACL injury even at pick 30. To do that, he better be a top 15 pick without the injury.
-
I think that Zach Moss and Devin Singletary might disagree with the proposition that the OL is “fine”. I have too many memories of either RB being hit or having to elude tacklers in the backfield to think the OL is ok. That being said, I think the pass blocking was decent. I don’t think that Najee Harris helps this offense very much. You would need Barry Sanders in his prime to get out of the backfield with this OL’s poor run blocking.

Gunner's 2021 FINAL Mock Draft on PAGE 21
OldTimer1960 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
RB won’t help with the run blocking this line provides, especially if they lose Daryl Williams. Need to upgrade the OL, particularly run blocking, before RB upgrades (obviously my opinion only). I may be in the minority, but I think Singletary and Moss are fine if they aren’t being hit/eluding tacklers in the backfield regularly. I do like what I have seen of Nixon, but he isn’t super huge - can you play both him and Oliver and expect to stop inside run game? -

I don’t expect a WR in the first 3 or 4 rounds unless the value is sky high, even if the release Brown for cap savings and lose McKenzie. I think that Gabe Davis will step into WR3 role. -

Really nice job. I enjoy reading your draft posts very much (along with several other very knowledgeable draft nicks that post here). I agree that CB2 is a big need and would help the defense. I would still prefer that the Bills grab a pass rusher in round 1, but agree that with the way the picks fell in this scenario that they would have to reach to pick either DE or blitz-capable OLB. Does Radunz have enough ballast to be an effective run blocker and hold up to bull rushes in the NFL? -
TE in the draft - College football fans, your thoughts?
OldTimer1960 replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in College Football
Many bigger needs, in my opinion. I’d love a really top-notch TE, but those are hard to come by and OL, DE, DT, LB, CB are bigger needs, in my opinion. -
40 times, in particular, are more valuable for players coming from lower level of competition where they may appear fast vs the lower competition, but not be particularly fast by major college/NFL standards. For guys at the top colleges playing against top colleges, the game tape should pretty well tell you their speed.

A complete offense matters
OldTimer1960 replied to FieldGeneral's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m not opposed to a really top RB, but I can’t fault Moss and Singletary when they were being hit/having to elude tacklers in the backfield frequently. In my opinion, improved run blocking will benefit the run game more than replacing Singletary or Moss. -
And as someone else mentioned- CEH and a major league run game.

Or Hardiman who may be faster than Hill...

It is, but those will be pretty late 1st round picks. Let’s assume that both 1st Lund picks are in the 20s - that is roughly equivalent to 1 top-10 1st round pick. And that is even before discounting the 2022 pick by a round as is usually done.
