The Bills are in the enviable position of having a great young QB who is 25 y.o. Unfortunately, they are not the only team in the AFC who has a great QB (Mahomes, Burrows, Herbert, Russell Wilson (Den), maybe Lamar Jackson) and there are some good QBs who might become great (Wilson (Jets), Trevor Lawrence). Beyond them, we don’t know who might get Desean Watson… Point is, Josh is great, but there are several teams who have great QBs, too. Looking at it rationally, if you get to the playoffs you have to win a minimum of 3 games (4 if you don’t have first week bye) to win the SB. All the teams in the AFC playoffs are likely to be very good and have outstanding QBs. Let’s look at what the probability of winning a SB would be for a very good team who doesn’t have a first round bye. This would mean that they would have to win 4 consecutive games against the best teams in the league. Being charitable, assume your team has a 70% chance to win each game. To win 4 straight, the probability is .7x.7x.7x.7= 24% In my view, the Bills should be playing the long game and not mortgaging the future to go “all in”. Allen should have minimum of 7 more very good years. I don’t want them to play cap games and create a problem 2 or 3 years from now that would eliminate them from contention. Be reasonable, don’t create big cap problems and let your young player grow some. This team is good enough to be competitive with any team in the AFC, though I admit that Chargers have improved a ton on paper and Cincy will be a big problem while Burrows is on his rookie deal.

Danielle Hunter, DE, the perfect trade candidate
OldTimer1960 replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
Rams and Bucs are in different positions because their “window” withe their QB will close sooner. JA should be here and good for at least another 7 years and would not want to be in worse cap hell for much of that time due to finagling the cap now and have it all be a disaster In 2 or 3 years. -
McKissinc changes mind, returning to Washington
OldTimer1960 replied to Logic's topic in The Stadium Wall
He apparently likes being in Washington. That doesn’t mean anything about what he thinks of Buffalo and does not necessarily suggest anything bad that the Bills front office did or didn’t do. -
I think the poster meant clearing space for Daquan Jones, not Chandler. I don’t expect them to go into big debt to sign a good, but aging DE.
-
They won’t get much in trade for Beasley at his age and him being a bit of a pain in the arse. He is still very good, but could fall off quickly.
-
I agree that he has still been playing well and I am glad that the Bills were able to bring him in. Still, the age has taken some toll.

Former Pro Bowl LG. Now, I’m not complaining about the signing, but 34 y.o. Saffold is not in his prime.

For Nevada. He might be a decent prospect, but that is not the SEC that Nevada played in. -
Levi Wallace gone to the Steelers on 2-year deal
OldTimer1960 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
Do we have DTs and no pass rush help? I understand limited resources in the draft, so unless they felt that Jackson was better than or equal to Wallace, I am disappointed in letting Wallace walk for low end starter money. Does that mean doom? Of course not, but I’d rather have had status quo with chance to draft a good prospect than to be forced into a high pick who might be a big reach. Hope they can find a first-round worthy CB that fits their scheme or they are likely looking at trade up in round 2 for a decent CB prospect. -

Maybe OK, but he will cost #25, won’t make it to our 2nd pick. -

Agree that Wallace wasn’t great, but Jackson failed to beat him out and neither are premier athletes (in NFL terms). It is way past time to invest in this position. -

Maybe if they didn’t have to give safety help all the time, they might blitz once in a while to improve the pass rush. I get that the scheme can help weak CBS succeed, but be sure to know that if they didn’t have weak links at CB, they could do more defensively. -

A weak vet that costs less than Wallace is, at best, a stop gap. A team that plays 4-2-5 mostly rolling with what they have and a stop-gap vet is asking for a major problem. For sure, if they improve the pass rush significantly, it helps the DBs, but where is pass rush help coming from? I don’t see them being able to afford Chandler Jones who is very good, not great nd Danielle Hunter is a pipe dream who would also cost draft assets that they currently can’t afford to part with. -

When your corners are White coming off serious injury, Dane Jackson and Cam Lewis it is a big hole. Tell me where there is a bigger hole on a team that plays 5 DBs as a base defense. -

Who is playing #2 CB? Dane Jackson? What if he is playing CB1 with White missing time? It is way past time for serious investment at CB. -

Draft one high and one 4th or 5th. CB is a barren wasteland on this team with adequate, not great pass rush. -

Pretty much a guarantee of CB in round 1, no matter who is available. It would be a joke rolling into next season with Dane Jackson and Cam Lewis as your CBs with possibility of White missing time or never returning to form. Don’t like maybe having to bypass good players at other positions and/or reach for CB, but it is a very important position with no answers past White coming off of a major injury. Would not surprise me it they take two corners in the first 4 rounds. Unfortunately, likely means that they miss out on some very good WR prospects and probably would be looking at 3rd tier prospects at edge in the 2nd. That doesn’t even consider the poor situation at DT or interior OL. Not the best situation for sure. -
JD Mckissic to Bills 2 year, 7 million

This guy has been productive and is a nice complement to Singletary by bringing pass catching skills. -

Interesting signing. Likely means no RB in the draft unless very late. -

Shenault is MUCH bigger than McKenzie and does the same things, but more productive too. 6’1” 220+ and had 50+ and 60+ receptions in his two NFL seasons. I would not give up too much for a player like him, but for this year’s 3rd I would be quite tempted. -

I think Landry would be a good signing and seems to fit the culture of hard workers. WR is a need, but lower than CB and OG - in my opinion. If they don’t re-sign Phillips, DT becomes a bigger need as well. -
Chark is an interesting option if he isn’t injured.
-
That would be a great draft, but completely unrealistic. Neither Wyatt nor Jones will be available at the Bills’ pick in the 2nd round let alone their 3rd pick. I don’t really even expect Wyatt to be available at pick 25.

Plenty of position players have washed out from 3rd round, too.
