After one half, it is clear that Peterman is not an answer at QB,, yet I really hope that the Bills have the discipline to not force Josh Allen Into the lineup. The combination of problems on the OL and at WR would make it difficult for a seasoned vet to even look decent. Allen is a raw prospect who played at a low level of competition. If he is thrust into the lineup with expectations that he can somehow turn this moribund offense around, the Bills will be looking for a new QB in the draft next year because fans and media will run Allen out of town. Allen is nowhere near ready and his supporting cast is awful. Compare what we've seen of Allen vs Sam Darnold with the Jets. Darnold is much more ready to play now. He processes what he sees faster and he does not have mechanical issues to fix as Allen does. Play Allen with this group at your peril and expect to hear people compare him to EJ Manuel by season's end.

Concern about the GM's Experience
OldTimer1960 replied to Bob in STL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I see it pretty much the same way. I don’t think that McCarron would have looked much better than Peterman with this group, but I’d rather have him back to repack Peterman as the starter instead of having to throw Allen into this disaster. As you said, both the WRs and OL are major problems. Not much chance of success with that combination no matter who plays QB. NOw Allen will be fed to the wolves and it won’t take beyond next game for some to start calling him a bust. I expected the offense to be awful, but I was shocked by how poorly the defense played. I know that they have problems rushing the passer, but i didn’t expect anything like that performance. -

Time to start checking out the very top college prospects. Bills are going to have a very early pick in April. -

That’s because McCoy is the only player on offense that the Ravens have to respect so they are geared to stop him. They aren’t worried about Murphy beating them. -

I would agree, except that it isn’t like the defense is worn out from being on the field all day and finally yielding. They’ve been equally bad as the offense has -

I expected the offense to be bad, but VERY disappointed in the defense. Abysmal -
Agreed 100%. They jettisoned high salaried players to fix the cap for next year. They know that is going to be painful this season, but it needed to be done.

Ego or Redemption - The Peterman Story
OldTimer1960 replied to ngbills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree - starting Peterman is mainly being done to allow Allen more time to learn and develop - and- not expose Allen to injury or cause him to revert to/develop bad habits behind what looks to be a bad OL. -
The right move, in my opinion. The talent level surrounding the QB is poor at WR and especially OL. Peterman makes quick decisions and throws while the rookie (understandably) takes a little extra time to process what he is seeing - time the OL can't provide. I am rooting for Peterman to do well, but I think the entire offense is going to struggle. Still, it is important that someone other than Allen gets first crack at it. If the offense is bad, at least it will be clearly established that the surrounding talent is lacking once Allen does get his chance - then, I would hope, that fans and media are more patient with Allen than they would have been if Allen started out of the gate.

No matter which QB they play, I think 7-9 is mighty optimistic. There are serious weaknesses in both the OL and WR positions. TE looks OK, but no star there and RB should be in good hands if McCoy remains healthy and isn’t suspended.

Braxton Miller Cut by Texans
OldTimer1960 replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In 2 seasons he has caught 53 passes, but for an underwhelming 7.7 ypc -
It is just plain very difficult to evaluate McCarron at all off the last two preseason games he played. Against the Browns, the OL was atrocious and he had no chance. Last night, the OL gave him little to no chance. Now, I'm not saying he is a star, but I think if given time to throw McCarron is at least competent.

I agree and Peyton was the 1st overall pick, so he got plenty of benefit of his he doubt. For Allen, there are a ton of media and fans waiting for one bad outing, maybe one bad quarter to say “see I was right - he is inaccurate and can never improve. Told you it was a stupid pick”. That narrative is lying in wait to be sprung and when this team is 0-6 because they have a HS offensive line and a poor receiver group, how many are going to be calling for his head? - never mind the regression in mechanics that he is likely to suffer running for his life waiting for receivers that will never get open. Sacks, throw always and INTS - and the narrative will be complete. Path to a ruin d prospect...

He did today - subject him to that for a season (or half a season) and he will have happy feet and throw to nobody - ruined... -
Why the hell didn't we address the OLINE?
OldTimer1960 replied to Klaista2k's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can’t address every position in one off-season. I believe that they tried to MP rove the defense this off-season with the intention of addressing the offense the next off-season via free agency and the draft
