Good, I'm glad we don't have to go up against a Harbaugh coached team twice a year. I think he's going to lead the Niners to some big years especially in a soft division.
-
I must disagree, I would not want Harbaugh coaching another team in our division. He hasn't been an NFL coach yet but I just think he could come in and turn a team around even better than his brother has done in Baltimore. I would have welcomed him with open arms if he would have been interested in coming to the NFL when the Bills were looking for a new coach last year. As for the classlessness, I agree, Sporano came in, turned them from a 1-15 team to a division champ and they go and do this to him. It ain't right.

Ryan Fitzpatrick screwed the Bills over
Talley56 replied to JPicc2114's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, a defense that couldn't stop the run nor get to the QB had nothing to do with those losses. -
I'm still not convinced that Luck will definitely be taken first. There are two teams ahead of us who drafted QBs last year. After everything Denver gave up on Tebow I don't think they will turn around the next year and draft another first round QB and while Clausen didn't look too good his first year the Panthers may try to give him another year or two before giving up on him. So, if we want him, we may not have to give up the world to get him.

I know you said etc, but London Fletcher's name needed to be added to this as one of the notable ones that left.

Stevie Missed the Pro Bowl Cause He Missed "The Catch"
Talley56 replied to BillsPhan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While it would have been nice to see Stevie in the pro bowl I'm just not sure who, of the AFC receivers that made it, should be left off. I really believe Dwayne Bowe and Brandon Lloyd need to be in the pro bowl. Both of them made mediocre QBs look like stars this year. It's hard to keep Andre Johnson out. The only one he might have an argument against is Reggie Wayne, but I think even he belongs. -
I think the NFL needs to handle the season and playoffs the same way the College basketball should be handling the NCAA tournament: It's all fine the way it is, if it aint broke don't fix it.

Attempting to throw the ball is not the same thing as actually throwing it. It shouldn't matter if your arm is going forward, if you don't release it, it should still be considered you having possession of the ball and thus if you lose it at any point it should be considered a fumble.

If the Jets pull their starters, shouldn't the Bills...
Talley56 replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know about pulling all our starters, but this might be the perfect time to start Brohm. I'm a Fitz fan however I wouldn't mind seeing what Brohm can do in our last game keeping in mind that Fitz will be the starter going into next season. -
Brady has always benefited from a great line. I'm not saying Roethlisberger is better but if Brady had his line, the Bears' line, or heck ours he would not have had the career he had. I'm not saying he wasn't great, but he owes a lot of his success to them.

Another NFL in L.A. article but...

Exactly! And if I hadn't heard like 10 different versions of what he said, leading to 10 different conclusions, I'd feel better about that. -

Does anyone actually think the Bills will beat the Pats*
Talley56 replied to Dan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While the Patriots are far superior in talent, they were also far superior in talent back in September when, had it not been for two late pics, one in the endzone, we very easily could have won. Also, the Ravens and Steelers are far superior in talent and we were on the brink of beating both of them. I like our chances but, as is the case for all Bills games, I am expecting the worst, hoping for the best. -
The Bears are still playing for a first round bye in the NFC so I could see them coming out strong at home against the Jets. Not saying the Jets won't be able to beat them but I would put my money on Chicago and I could definitely see the Chargers and Jaguars winning thus keeping pressure on the Jets to have to play against us.

HA! Too true man, too true -
Sorry, but an A in a 4-10 (at best 6-10) season? I'm impressed with how the team has played better since about mid October and yes we have come very close to beating some good teams. But 4-10 is still 4-10 and we even had some Jauron and Mularkey years where had some close losses gone differently we may have been a playoff team. The record may not be the only criteria you need to judge a coach but it's a big part of it. It was his first season I will give him that but since we still only have 4 wins and we didn't even start winning until we were basically already eliminated from contention he really doens't deserve much higher than a C, maybe C+. Also, you mentioned that if he hadn't taken so much time with Trent we might be a playoff team but isn't that a knock against Gailey? It shows he wasted so much time on a QB who only ended up playing the first two games and then got cut after week three and he didn't take enough time with another one who could have been really great this year with some better pre-season fine-tuning. If you're trying to make a case for Gailey you shouldn't even be touching that as that was a major mistake by Gailey. That said, I really hope Gailey does turn out to be the right guy after he's had a few years to turn things around. I was not a fan of the hire but if he does turn us around I will gladly admit I was wrong.

Belichick talks up a lot of teams he is about to play. He's one of the few coaches/players to know two pretty obvious things: 1. If you show respect for a team before playing them they are more likely to let their guard down going into the game 2. If you talk trash about a team about how bad they are and that you are going to whoop them they are more motivated to bring their A game and kick your butt and make you look foolish.

I'd like to see us play on Thanksgiving. But I think they'll go with Miami. The Packers played the Lions on Thanksgiving in 2001, 2003, 2007, and 2009 so I think they're more about ratings than they are about taking turns.
-
Long drives and frequent blitzes are our best shot. From the get go I would wait until at least 3 seconds left on the play clock to snap the ball on every play just so we are keeping the ball as long as possible. Obviously, if we get behind, we'll have to bail on that but at least start out that way. On D, bring it, try to at least hit Brady as much as possible. Yes, of course Brady could easily beat the blitz but I really believe that gives us a better chance than sitting back and playing safe.

Ok, while I'm not a Gailey supporter I am willing to step back and give him a chance to improve the team. However, to say he is even better than Gruden let alone much better? Really? He has been an NFL head coach for only three seasons (including this one) at 58 yeard old. Gruden, 11 years younger, has coached many more seasons and has had more success than Gailey. Gailey has a long way to go before he can be compared to just about any coach that has a ring (there may be a couple of exceptions but Gruden is not one of them).

Anybody feel like owning up...
Talley56 replied to SageAgainstTheMachine's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The funny thing is, people also thought the Dolphins were going to compete with the Jets and Pats for the AFC East. Some fellow Bills fans around here thought Miami would win the division. How silly must they feel now. -
You know, every time people tell me that we don't stand a chance against the Pats and that they'll destroy us we play them much closer than expected. Everyone though they'd whoop us earlier this year, and it was only an 8-point win. Everyone thought they'd kill us on the Monday night opener last year and we outplayed them for the first 58 minutes. Heck, even going back to 2006, no one gave us a chance in that year's season opener and they ended up needing a safety to beat us. Seeing that our defense probably can't stop them the way we've been playing I am all for the going all out and blitzing all day. What do we have to lose? I'm not saying cheap shot Brady well after he throws the ball but we are sure to at least give him some solid hits as he gets rid of the ball. Unfortunately, if we didn't have the guts to go for it on a 4th and goal from the half yard line against the Browns last week I don't see us taking this chance.

Then who is Tom Brady? Is Andrew Luck the next Tom Brady? Or is Mallett the one? Brady has been beaten by teams this year who were led by Mark Sanchez and Colt McCoy and those guys are hardly Tom Brady (quite frankly, despite the Jets' success this season, I believe Fitzpatrick is better than both right now.) The way they beat the Pats was through sound defense. That is where we need to build if we want to beat anyone next season and beyond.
