  1. Don't know much about Matthews but I'm curious. Is he any good or is he getting help from the family reputation. In other words is he really a 2nd rounder or would he be a 3rd or 4th if his last name was Smith. I haven't seen him play outside of the Championship game.
  2. You need to pick your FA's carefully but don't go overboard. If you depend on draft alone you will take much longer to build and may never get there. You need an intellegent mix of both. That's why it bothers me when I here Nix say you build through the draft. I'm not sure how extreme he is with that philosophy.
  3. It seems like we have been focusing on character for the last 10 years especially during the Levy era. Can we get back to focusing on talented football players. This team is in desperate need of talent no matter where it comes from. Until they come up with a good character Superbowl, we need to focus on talent. It seems as though the majority of the bloggers feel that no one is good enough to be a Bill. When the fact of the matter is just about every player out there 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team is good enough to be a Bill. Lets get some talent in here.
  4. +1 What competent GM would say he was building a defense around Poz. I would let Poz walk if he didn't agree to a mediocre salary. It's not like when Poz gets injured the level of play of the defense decreases. He is hardly missed. I see nothing but excuses for Poz blaming everyone else for his inability to play his position well. Every MLB has to cover his space whether the RB's or TE's are coming through it. When a slow TE catches a pass on Poz it always the safeties fault. When a RB runs through him and drags him 3-4 yards, its alway the d-line's fault. My favorite is "If he had better players around him he would be better"..who wouldn't. Good players make people around them better not the other way around. Let the Poz experiment end. We can get a rookie to play to the same level of Poz for cheap. If you put Poz on the Steelers he would suck. If you put Poz on the Ravens he would suck. If you put Poz on the Patriots he would suck. If you put Poz on the Raiders, Redskins, Giants, Colts, Bengals.....you finish the sentence.
  5. The thing is trading down only works when you have people in the front office that know what they are doing. I am not a believer in this front office when it comes to drafting. Not yet any way.
  6. Poz is in no position to take jabs at anyone. He needs to take a good look in the mirror. Last year Poz fans were saying he would be much better in a 3/4 scheme than he was in the 4/3 becuse he is more naturally suited for that defense. We found out he wasn't. Now it's he needs to have better people in the 10 positions around him. I have a suggestion. Why don't we get new MLB's that run towards the ball, that can cover tight ends (especially the slow ones), that can stop at least one RB at the point of impact, that can shed a block once in a while and most important, is that he is not from Penn St. I would like to see our defense built up. Fairley or Dareus would be nice but even if we go for Newton at 3 we still have many picks to bolster our defense if our front office has a clue. No matter how much the defense is built up, Poz will still be a liability.
  7. I agree. I wasn't necessarily a fan but I was curious to see what he had. I wanted to see what he looked like after taking snaps with the first team during the week. It was one of the biggest let downs in quite a while. By the 3rd quarter I was wearing a brown paper bag over my head in my own family room. There is no way he should have been on the roster. Thank goodness Fitz did not get injured. Now I'm curious about Levi Brown. What is he about? does he even have the potential to be a backup in this league? If not, stop wasting time on these guys and get an experience vet that may be on the down side that knows the speed of the game and can produce for a couple of games. I would much rather have a John Kitna than a Brian Brohm any day.
  8. Can you envision Singletary with his famous stare chewing out Poz for being a wuss.
  9. You can add Doug Flutie to the list. I want a quarteback that can win games, period.
  10. Vince is a better football player than Fitz with more upside. This isn't even debatable. The question is how much baggage is he carrying. We really do not know. I don't trust coaches that blast players in the media any more than I trust players that blast coaches in the media, both sides can be full of it. Shanahan is a good example of this. Your statement about Fitz being smarter is funny. I'm not sure what that is suppose to mean. Is Fitz smarter than Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning? If Fitz was so able adapt and be faster and so intelligent why was he ever cut from the Rams or Bengals? I don't remember Kelly, Marino, Brady and Manning ever being cut and they don't seem like Harvard material. The fact of the matter is Fitz is a good backup and better than the garbage we have had in a few years. Keep in mind the Bills have only scored more than 20 points in 4 games this year. That sucks. We still need a starter. If Nix and Gailey can bring someone in to put points on the board and win games then more power to them. Personally I hope Carolina picks him up but let's not get silly on our assessment of Fitz.
  11. I would be totally upset if we kept Poz especially on the heels of throwing money away at Kelsey. Poz is a liability in the heart of our defense. The sooner he is replaced the better our defense will be. He is just too soft. Can't stop the run at the point of impact. Can't cover tight ends. Can't shed blocks but boy can he sell t-shirts.
  12. All he does is win games. Don't forget he had a better year than Luck.
  13. +1 Your better scouts can evaluate who the good players are whether they are from non top 20 programs or small schools. You can add Jim Kelly to the list. Miami had not gained it prominence yet.
  14. The real problem is when Poz is playing there is a hole. I view his position as one of the existing holes. People are complaining about the ILB position now. Let's not throw away money at someone we know that can't fully play the position well. Depending on how aggressive Nix and Gailey want to be will determine if they can find more than one ILB.
  15. Any first rounder QB or player at any position can be a crapshoot especially when Modrak is heading up the scouting. We have many needs offensive and defensive that need to be addressed. I think many people think we have a great offensive we only need defensive help. Not true. Defensive needs to be the priority of the draft on a whole if you have a top 5 pick you should get the best impact player. Picks should not be that much of a gamble if the research is properly done. Still no guarantees but the odds will stack in our favor if we do our homework. Notice how some teams seem to evaluate better than others.
  16. Basically what you are saying is, he is like all black QB's that weren't successful. What is the Buffalo culture you are implying??? If you heard him speak you would realize he and McGahee are two totally different people. If you have seen this guy play you wouldn't hesitate to pick him. I think Chan Gailey would develop the hell out of him. This guy has the smarts to play the pro game and will make a huge impact. Nothing against Luck but Newton was the better guy this year. I would not trade up to get any pick. If anything I would trade down to get more picks. If available Newton, Luck or Bowers would be my choices. We should be able to land one of them. There is no bigger pimp than the NCAA. Take off the racial blinders.
  17. I think Poz has garnered so much attention because so many bloggers have stated that Poz is our best linebacker, If only he had a great player playing next to him he would be great too. If our line was great, Poz would be great. Excuses, excuses. There seems to be general acknowledgement that our LB's are bad. The Poz bashers are just saying they all suck including Poz. Poz is a great demographic fit for the Buffalo community and has become a fan favorite, but on the field he doesn't compare to our second string lb's from the glory days. When people talk of Poz being good Carlton Bailey, Marvcus Patton, John Holecek are probably somewhere just shaking their heads. As good as KW has played this year I think the 4-3 is a better fit for him. Playing next to run stuffer or a true 2 gap DT would only make KW better and he is a good player now. I don't think he is best suited for the NT in a 3-4. Over the past years we have become so use to mediocrity that when we do get a good player, we elevate them to greatness when they truely aren't, they are just good.
  18. Triple teamed??? Haloti Ngata is dominant not Kyle Williams. We have become so used to mediocrity that we overrate some one who is good but not great. Kyle is good but if I had a choice. I would rather have Ngata, Wilfork, Seymour or Suh on my team.
  19. Good read if your a 4th grader. Save the analysis on safeties making tackles downfield when they all do...even probowlers. The fact of the matter is he is average but he does make tackles where our lb's do not. In watching Whitner play this season I feel there is more upside to him but you have to watch the game instead of living in the stats books. He is worth keeping but not at elite safety prices. This is the plight of evaluating and rewarding mediocrity. Poz fits this category as well. In fact most of our team does. Not one player is worth top 5 money.
  20. Hey, we could use a Reuben Brown on this team.
  21. Because he is not dominant and because the Buffalo defense on a whole is not good. He reminds me a little of Tommie Harris for the Bears. Smallish but can play the position very well but sometimes others perception of success hinges on the success of the entire defense. Not sure if he will be voted as first team starter. I believe last year he replaced someone else that was injured if my memory serves me correct.
  22. No way. We don't have a proven rb to start after FJ. Much of the TE or WR's success comes from who is throwing him the football. Would that change as well? Take away Brady and how successful will Gronkowski be? Not sure what the answer will be.
  23. Lets not blame Poz's inability to cover anything on Whitner regarding yesterday's TD (Crumpler) down the middle. With that being said, lets keep Florence. Poz and Whitner should go where ever the bucks take them. I would put a bid on Whitner but not elite safety money. I would let Poz walk he is a punk and to soft for the ILB position. Both are very expendable.
