  1. Back in the pre-Mafia-social-media days thin-skinned Bills fans really used to hate Mort because he covered the Bills organization like the irrelevant sh!t show that they were under Ralph. He caught a lot of flack from Bills fans that he really didn't deserve for being honest, IMO.
  2. No, Doc is correct, 29-32 is a losing record. There aren't any actual tie's in hockey. Loser points aren't half a win they are just a token point to make losing fans feel better about losing late.
  3. Actually, the Rams used a speed analytic.......his ability to maintain top speed thru changes of direction......as justification for drafting Kupp fairly early despite concerns that he'd be the more-easy-to-find slot type of receiver. Which is what he is and he's great at it. But that metric actually likely got him drafted earlier. The flip side to a player like Reagor busting in the 20's is a player like Jefferson becoming an MVP level offensive player in the 20's. NOBODY saw THAT coming. He looked very good.......but the clear #1 WR in the NFL? No. I think most of us would be satisfied with the Bills WR pick at 28 becoming a 1,000 yard receiver.........but while that player could bust he could also become amazing.
  4. Well, if you followed the draft you'd know that there are never 6-10 hits in a row at ANY position. Not even close. There are just SO MANY different things that can go wrong with any prospect. In the last 8 drafts the Bills have gotten very disappointing returns from 1st rounders like Shaq Lawson and Kaiir Elam. Big fails on day 1 or day 2 happen regardless of position. Edit: And I'll add.......the guys who gained the most from the workouts at WR yesterday were guys like McConkey and Pearsall.........who had great tape but people questioned their athleticism. It wasn't one of those situations where a bunch of guys with nothing good on tape ran in the 4.3's or jumped 11' or 42". This class has been pretty fleshed out for some time. Some of them will inevitably bust or underwhelm due to unforeseen injuries but there is no doubt it's an extraordinary class talent-wise.
  5. The difference is that Xavier Worthy had been a projected 1st round pick in this 2024 draft since his freshman season. Worthy has been a producer at Texas since day 1. I know there are a lot of people who don't follow college football who are suddenly interested and weighing in with hot takes about the little bit of draft history they know but Worthy is not a track star playing football or a one season wonder like most of those guys.
  6. Of course, any of the top receivers to the Chiefs is no bueno. But the same can be said of offensive tackles. They need two new offensive tackles and this is the year to get one. The Chiefs have been fairly stingy with the Hunt fortune in recent offseasons so maybe they have to draft more for need and defer receiver to day 2.
  7. In the days leading up to the combine Ian Rappaport said that the biggest variation at WR between the draftniks and the pro scouts was Xavier Worthy. Pro scouts have always had him going in round 1(even if not a true first round grade, of which some think there are only 15-18). And the truth is that Worthy was generally considered a mid 1st round pick in waiting last spring and summer. He has been consistent so the "he's John Ross 2.0" crowd of folks clearly don't follow college football. Worthy just didn't have a breakout jump in performance. And that was largely on their QB Quinn Ewers IMO. He throws a lot of neighborhood balls. If Worthy and Mitchell had played with a Penix or Nix they would be a much easier evaluation, IMO.
  8. Irrelevant, really. The issue with the Sabres is not reaching the playoffs and as the now 25th best team in the NHL they are BURIED behind 5 teams for the last wild card and 4 of those teams have games in hand on them. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, they are just playing better because the pressure is off.
  9. That's a vague take of it..........but the reality that Flutopians didn't want to hear was that Bill Belichick created the Flutie/Johnson controversy when he drew up the defense that stifled Flutie in the 2 games against the Jets in 1998 and extinguished Flutie magic. Before that there was no controversy. The following season was an offensive struggle under Flutie. 3 teams that missed the playoffs stifled at beat Flutie at home.........ruining their playoff seeding and wasting what is still the best defense the Bills have had during the SB era. It was just plain OBVIOUS that you could totally neutralize a Flutie offense simply by keeping him in the pocket. Johnson simply gave them more offensive potential at that point. So Flutie being a selfish ah0le in the locker room and the media battling about which QB should start were really just the byproduct of Flutie's performance being compromised by Belichick.
  10. Dickerson was indeed hard on Marv but the idea that he betrayed the locker room is just made up nonsense from Tasker..........who specializes in spewing nonsense. Dickerson had his fans in the locker room and he had his players that he loved and loved him. He kept a normal amount of heat on the local NFL team. Also.....Tasker is SO BAD at radio.........he somehow manages to make it clear that he's an ah*le away from work while also being a rambling, boring, uninsightful analyst with terrible recollection.
  11. Yeah it's wasteful use of assets having your own 2nd round picks getting less than 40% of the snaps on the DL. Gotta' scout better. Beane's pro personnel work has been his biggest personnel problem during his tenure but there are definitely signs that he is improving in that regard at least. That second wave on the DL needs to be much better value whether it's picks or signings.
  12. Yeah as a Hurricanes fan I don't want either of Kinchens or Williams. Kinchens is all instinct and no physical traits and I question his ability to hold up to the punishment. Great character guy but not what you want from a starting point as a prospect. Williams is slow as balls........as I predicted he ran poorly.........but that lack of speed meshes well with his lack of instinct, intelligence and discipline. Total dumba$$ of a player who thinks he's a lot better than he is........arrives late to the play and then yanks a face mask or hits the guy out of bounds in frustration. If he puts his mind to it and takes pro coaching he has the physical traits to be an NFL LB but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.
  13. Free agency is LOADED with safeties every offseason. Because even if they play up to expectations nobody wants to pay them. Because they are easily replaced. Now add that to the fact that even prime All-Pro level Hyde and Poyer in 2020-2021 were helpless against Mahomes...........why would anyone want to use a high pick on a safety?
  14. Yeah you don't reach for talent in a weak draft for that position to fill needs. That's how you end up with a Boogie Basham and miss on studs at other positions. It's as simple as that. If you have to roll with an Eli Ankou as one of your depth DT's then that's what you have to do. I think the Bills should be planning on filling DL needs in UFA. They can't shop high end but they can get some cheap rentals and if a DL they like falls their way at some point in their draft then so be it. But this years DT3 might be next years 4th rounder.
  15. Yeah it's important to note that the FAMILY of Lamar Hunt Sr. owns the Chiefs. So when it comes to spending money there is likely much internal debate among family members. Whereas if Terry Pegula wants to spend money he just does it. Lamar Hunt Jr. runs the Chiefs but his personal net worth is "only" around $2B so I would guess he isn't going to pick up the bill if the rest of the family doesn't want to chip in from their share of the profits. The Hunt situation is probably a peek into what the Bills will look like under the Pegula children's leadership. Probably won't be operating from a negative cap every year because all that re-structuring is VERY expensive.
  16. Ah, bullsh!t. Yeah Bills apologists like to talk about the Dickerson comments having some great impact but the REAL firestorm that week was Bruce Smith announcing he was going to demand a trade after the SB and went off about how racist Bills fans were. And then Thurman Thomas was a class A douche-nozzle at that time and blew off media day to be a jerk. That stuff is what really made it a miserable week leading up to the game for Bills fans and it was clear their heads were not in the game. You could feel an implosion coming from those assh*les. They were just an immature, unfocused bunch lead by a head coach who had no real control over them. The story has been totally re-framed to make those Bills players/leaders out to be sympathetic characters. https://www.nytimes.com/1992/01/23/sports/super-bowl-xxvi-bills-stay-the-course-despite-detour-of-distractions.html If you have exceeded your NY times free articles limits there are lots of similar articles from that week just type in Bruce Smith + racism + Super Bowl and you will be transported back to the REAL lead up to that SB. Dickerson was scapegoated for Levy's failure to have any control over that team. He was the only one he could afford to reprimand for their actions. And NO he didn't call Dickerson out when he fired him.........he didn't do that until during Dickerson's radio career when he said Chuck "had been fired more times than a civil war cannon". You never saw any of this sh!t in the "Four Falls of Buffalo" though.
  17. Don't mistake his Project Runway dropout style for weakness
  18. Dickerson was a GREAT radio personality. I have fond memories of his very entertaining shows. That show couldn't exist in WNY today because you can't REALLY be critical of the Bills and keep a job in local radio or tv. One of those great memories is hearing @Bill from NYC regularly calling into his postgame and expressing his Bills pride as we drove home from games. Dickerson was not a particularly successful coach but Casper Milquetoast.......as Dickerson used to call Marv Levy........had mostly sh!tty coaches anyway. Those late 80's and 90's Bills were totally driven by an outstanding personnel department. Chuck Knox brought a really good group of scouts with him from the Rams and they beget guys like Polian, Butler, AJ Smith and the great Dwight Adams. Buddy Nix was a really good scout in his day too.
  19. Yeah I remember when the Bills were $32M under the cap in 2017 and McDermott(and Beane from Carolina) decided not to franchise tag and trade Gilmore...........and he immediately became the best free agent on the market, signed a huge deal with a division rival and the Bills got nothing for him. Sneed is good but Gilmore became the DPOY. When I questioned the obvious stupidity of not maximizing such an asset when they needed those draft picks to re-tool their team and get a young QB...........we had our usual folks talking about how not using the franchise tag made the Bills look like a more player-friendly organization to play for and benefit the Bills in free agency.
  20. Good on you for volunteering to keep us all up to the minute on all 4 days of the combine workouts.
  21. We domesticated dogs for our defense and to help hunt and kill prey. Not for cuddling. They've become wonderful pets but people just need to understand the caliber of weapon they are exposing others too. Which is largely dependent on the breed. If you want to own more potentially dangerous dogs keep them under lock and key and if they get out and hurt someone understand that it's the same as you hurting that person and you should expect to be prosecuted accordingly.
  22. Butler is speaking highly of himself in the 3rd person. 99% of Bills fans did not wonder at any time recently why John Butler left. 98% thought he left 24 years ago and the other 1% understood the dynamic. There is a touch of humor in that follow up paragraph as well as perhaps a stroke of Butler's ego.
  23. I'm glad you like that I use common sense.........but what you should be taking away from Harty/Sherfield is that one modest outlier season out of 5 or 6 does not equate to "producing elsewhere" or indicate untapped talent. I made this point when we signed those two turds. I pointed to Andre Holmes as an example of Bills fans getting suckered into thinking that the ONE season in a long career where a player did something indicated there was so much more there to be had. Robert Foster is another good Bills example. People didn't want to hear it........but it was true and played out like I expected. Sherfield literally put up 87 yards in 2021.......had his 400 yard season with Miami.......and then had 86 yards the next season with Buffalo. That's what he is........a low production, special teams depth receiver. He's only had 2 seasons out of 7 where he's even gotten to 100 yards. And no, I didn't make your point. You were just wrong. Harty was a terrible signing. He hadn't done anything to warrant that pay. The players that Cover 1 are talking about as potential targets are all legitimate, proven productive NFL wide receivers. Not stars........but guys you can expect to be able to utilize regularly as a legit boundary option in a Diggs/Kincaid/Shakir lead pass game.
  24. I don't suspect they will sign a $25M type free agent of course.........but yeah a big, long term contract is easy to put a small first year cap hit on so long as Beane is willing to guarantee base salaries and Terry Pegula keeps signing those checks. I wouldn't be astonished if they signed, say, Danielle Hunter to a Von Miller-esque contract to replace Von Miller. Because the biggest difference between the Bills roster and the Chiefs roster is that the Bills don't have a game wrecker like Chris Jones on defense. I don't know that Hunter is good enough to be that guy but 16 sacks and 80 tackles is absolutely elite edge production. The reason he might make it to the market and do so for significantly less than $30M aav is because there are concerns about his neck holding up long term.
