  1. I hope you are right........he turns 25 this season.......it's reasonable to expect a player at that age already to hit his stride as a pro sooner than a guy who is drafted at 20-21. I just didn't see the dynamic pass rush ability at Wake when the other draftable talents he was playing against were typically 2-3 years younger. I don't believe in the "exactly what a team like this can afford to do" notion of the draft. To me.........the draft is an ongoing process of roster strengthening/building and not just an annual event to address needs...........particularly the early rounds. A couple seasons ago KC took Clyde Edwards Helaire in round 1 because "the could afford to"............you can bet they wish they had that one back. The difference between good and bad rosters in the NFL is not nearly as significant as some fans think. You can never afford to treat a pick like it's a luxury.........you always gotta' be looking for difference makers........players who can win matchups. Whether Elam is that or not is questionable. He's an athletic man corner..........but he hasn't played much zone. He's tall.......but he's also short armed. He has a rep as a bad run support guy. He doesn't check all the boxes like Tre White did coming into this system.
  2. I don't agree with that..........CB in a zone system like the Bills play is at the bottom of the premium position list. If they get consistent pass rush they should never need first round corners in this defense. I know people assume you can't "mix in" man coverage without having first round CB's but that's not true. I will say that I didn't care for the Basham pick but Rousseau was definitely the right call.
  3. Yeah..........but if it takes Elam 8 weeks to not be a liability...........and by then White, Jackson and Johnson are all good.........then it would have negated the value of drafting Elam for need. Which is almost always the problem with drafting for need..........the player is rarely ready to step into an uncontested or lightly contested situation and play that large of a role on a contending team. Best scenario is to fill your needs in UFA or within...........and then if you draft a player you hope can start, they have a veteran that they have to compete with for the job. That puts the focus where it belongs......competing against an opponent rather than themselves.
  4. Where and when did Brandon Beane say this? Just last week Brandon Beane said Shakir was a slot receiver and that they were thin outside and looking.
  5. 1) It's tough love. Your male authority figures should have taught you this. A common problem with mama's boys is they tend to have a bad mix of elevated female emotion(a purposeful trait for a mother) and the male desire for results. 2) It says that I think first and therefore I don't dwell emotionally about a disappointing sports result.........an hour and a half after "13 seconds" I was sleeping soundly and was on to the draft the next day and looking forward to the next step in the journey. You "feel" first and then can't let an essentially meaningless past result pain you months or years later. (See item 1)
  6. There are also many Bills fans.............the vast majority in fact............who wouldn't feel compelled to record or watch a replay of a game whether they won or lost. The "I wear my heart on my sleeve about ultimately meaningless things in life and I'm proud of it" crowd think that they are the majority though. They are not. Like I said.........the journey is the reward.
  7. Man you really struggle to understand things........it's a shame. They aren't masochists...........they are kicking irrational people like you in the balls........unintentionally or otherwise..........by not treating Bills game results like they are anything more than entertainment. The 13 second jersey is hilarious. The journey is the reward. Learn that and stop crying about negativity. It's very negative of you.
  8. Until the last month of the season the Bills were the worst pass blocking unit in the league............and they still were among the very worst at allowing pressure on their QB at the end of the season. Using Josh Allen like RB1 out of desperation down the stretch limited the ability of the opposing defense to pin their ears back........muting the pass rush.........and the Bills were aware that is how it works..........it's why they ran him hard in the first KC matchup. They will put hard miles on him like a rented mule in big games. And that's fine..........but you can't then lose to Jacksonville when you want him to win from the pocket. QB's running the ball take the teeth out of all defenses.........it's also something the Chiefs knew would negate some of the strengths of the Bills defense in the playoffs..........which is why Mahomes was tucking and running on 3rd down instead of forcing the ball into coverage. He actually had a better day rushing than Allen in that divisional round game.
  9. Shaq wasn't a culture guy. They didn't pick up his option because they had to dangle a carrot in front of him.........his MO was being in the airport 2 hours after home games so he could fly to Charlotte and hang out at Clemson on his off day. Dude was a clock puncher until his walk year motivation.
  10. Who cites being first in the AFC in scoring as being #1 in the NFL in offense? That's not a thing. Utter douchebaggery on your part. Here are the FACTS: The Bills defense ranked #1 in the entire NFL in 2021. They ranked first in points allowed and permitted the fewest defensive TD's. They ranked first in yardage allowed, yards per play, passing yardage allowed and passing TD's allowed. And they finished 3rd in turnovers despite playing the fewest plays of any defense in the NFL. But you claim that the offense was not only better than the defense last season........but CLEARLY better..........when the Bills were upset by lesser opponents in 4 games where their offense averaged less than 12 points scored. 47 points scored in 4 games...........it's drought-level-defense-of-Dick-Jauron to suggest that the offense didn't cost them home field advantage and that not having home field wasn't critical for a team that was 0-3 in the playoffs on the road under McDermott.
  11. My great grandparents spoke only German. My grandfather was born soon after they arrived here and 17 years later he fought for the US against their homeland. He married a woman in Germany but she refused to leave Germany and he wasn't going to stay behind so she and his son stayed in Germany. Any day now I am expecting to inherit a brewery from long lost relatives.
  12. The Bills offense wasn't ranked #1 in the NFL in either 2020 or 2021. So kudos for trying to actually use a stat...........but it is a FACT that you made it up............so you are still just bickering blindly. The weakest unit on the team was the offensive line..........there was not a close second............and there was no comparably weak overall unit on the defense.
  13. Your granddad was a Nazi? Interesting.
  14. I literally said the opposite.........you are trying to create a ridiculously false narrative that people who think they invested too many available dollars and draft picks on defense are saying that signing Von Miller meant they couldn't have used any other money or even somehow more top draft picks......on the offensive side of the ball. And as usual from most of our resident bickering idiots.........you have no numbers or statistics to support your claim whatsoever. You even claim the offense was ahead of the defense last year when the defense finished 1st in the NFL and the OL was one of the leagues WORST(29th in pressures allowed) and they had bad offensive games almost randomly against the worst or the best teams. I mean.......WTF.........how absurd can it get on TSW? The reality is that the Von Miller cap hit was around $5M for 2022...........which is a couple million less than just the combined hit for rotational DT's Daquan Jones and Jordan Phillips. Von Miller didn't eat up all of the Bills cap space so I don't even know where this vague assumption that every other investment on defense aside from Von Miller was irrelevant to the caponomics of the roster this year comes from.
  15. It's not because of his performance at guard. He was solid there after some unexpected struggles early at RT. He also didn't miss a snap all season. He was playing on a big contract last year.........not every player is like Jason Peters and will take a pay cut to keep playing because they love the game. There were people saying that Julio Jones not signing was proof that he was washed and nobody wanted him..........and he actually was coming off a season where he was injured most of the year...........and then he signed a $6M+ 1 year deal in training camp. Just because a player isn't signed doesn't mean teams aren't trying to sign him.
  16. It could come down to who can maroon the great Tavon Austin on their own private island.
  17. Now Tre White is an "island CB"? Tre White is a stud zone CB.......a modern day Rhonde Barber type..........not an "island" man cover CB. And if the best man coverage CB Jalen Ramsey can't strand Mike Evans or the Bengals receivers on an island in the playoffs then I wouldn't hold my breath expecting Tre White to. The Bills play zone defense because that is their style...........not just because they are limited by the physical skills of their CB's.
  18. I would equate this to having a bigger playbook on offense...........sounds good in principle...........more possibilities equals harder to defend. On paper. But it often proves much different in practice. The most important aspect of each play is proper execution..........being able to play some man at a lesser quality than you can play zone is not a win just because you are mixing it up............because they are elite in zone. The proper response was to improve the pass rush.........they did that with Miller joining a cast of highly drafted 2nd-4th year players. Whether it was necessary to spend to the volume of cash and chips on the other aspects of the defense is debatable..............run defense isn't a big priority in the game anymore and the Bills secondary is very deep with capable players for their scheme.
  19. No.........they are at their core a zone pass defense. The zone aspect isn't a sacrifice.........it's their identity. The defense fell apart with 2 minutes left in the divisional game..........exhausted by Mahomes pulling the ball down when receivers were covered and keeping drives alive with his feet due to a pass rush that could not finish. Not due to 60 minutes of poor coverage. Prior to that exhausted finish for the entire Bills back 7..........they had played better in the secondary than they had in the AFCCG the year before WITH Tre White. Benford/McCloud looking good in camp "underlines" what I've said all along............the Bills have never had any trouble finding good CB play under McDermott. They could find a guy in UDFA who runs a 4.6 and if he's smart and instinctive he could beat a guy like Elam out if he doesn't demonstrate those particular abilities consistently. Regardless of his track metrics.
  20. As I said when the Bills drafted Elam.......CB was not nearly the immediate concern/need that some fans thought. And the Bills play a system where they can adjust the amount of exposure that their CB's have as well. Offensively they have no concerns whatsoever about not having enough seats for all the underwhelming OL and WR candidates. But they could easily just go with 5 WR's and keep an extra DB. The 6th and 7th WR options will be practice squad quality anyway.
  21. Has anyone complained about adding Von Miller? Everyone knows that the pass rush unit that Brandon Beane has built here since 2017 has been very disappointing. The question is whether it was really wise to pay 3 OTHER free agent DL starting quality money.......mostly run D first guys.........and then draft a CB in round 1 and a cover LB in round 3 when they had arguably the best secondary and back 7 coverage until in the NFL already? They did A LOT more than address the pass rush on defense this offseason. Of offense they signed a veteran in Saffold who missed 5 games worth of snaps with a chronic shoulder injury last season to replace Daryl Williams(who had played every snap of the season). Every other veteran addition by the Bills on offense was just an injury flyer discount.
  22. We must have been at different games..........the weather at the one in Orchard Park wasn't 11-26 passing for 120 yards 0 TD's and 3 interceptions bad. The Bills had an easy schedule and they just played down to competition and had flat performances far too often............MOSTLY on offense. When they had bad days on defense there was a reason.........a strong offensive opponent..........their bad days on offense were pretty random........the worst being the 6 point debacle in Jacksonville against the worst team in the sport.
  23. Agree........but that's not the discussion point. The offense wasn't good that day............Allen just played RB1 rushing the ball 15 times because the OL couldn't pass block and Allen and the receivers couldn't move the ball. Similar struggle versus Carolina but versus Atlanta Allen didn't stay in the pocket and get sacked 4x. Jets game finale was no dandy either. That's the game where Gabe Davis authored his 3 catches on 14 targets masterpiece. The offense was focused and sharp in the second half versus Tampa and the second NE game...........but like too much of the season they didn't bring their A game consistently on offense down the stretch. They were much more consistent on defense during the season.
