  1. Apparently this is being tweeted all over the place. Not saying there is any truth to it, but goes beyond a private/personal communication.
  2. CJ is the quickest back in space that I can remember ever having seen. Not comparing him to anyone though. There are a number of great backs. Each one is in a class by himself IMO. My personal fav is Gale Sayers. Who knows maybe CJ will someday make it into that select group, but it is unlikely. He's a hell of a back tho.
  3. Bingo! Only successful veteran NFL HC who is not a retread. Of course Ralph will have to let him write his own ticket.
  4. A decent argument. Lots of fans like Gailey's O. And your comments are in line with Gailey's often stated opinion that you pass to set up the run (though whether he actually does that is debatable). The flaw in the ointment tho is your belief that Fitz can execute it. He is inaccurate, erratic, inconsistent and unable to produce in the clutch (other than producing INTs). You are also right about his lack of arm strength. The point tho is that if you are not a threat to go over the top and take your shots the spread O will be easily defended by an NFL defence. And further with regard to Gailey, there is, as you say, poor player personnel evaluation, as well as poor in game decision making and clock management, and inability to motivate players.
  5. Also found that to be an odd comment, especially from someone who knows him well. People who are essentially open and frank by nature simply do not morph late in life into inscrutable and Byzantine personalities. Rex won't and can't change. Same for Belly. They are opposites.
  6. I agree. Rex is a great guy and great DC. Unlike Belly he's a human being. Would love to see him in BLO. With respect to Gailey, I don't think he is loyal to a fault. I think his "loyalty" to Fitz has mostly to do with his having sold him to Buddy and Ralph for 60 million garbanzos. Probably has more to do with his own perception of his legacy as an OC who can turn chickenpoo into chicken salad at the QB position.
  7. The Jets. From a GM perspective they gave up lots to pick him where they did and last year went out and foolishly guaranteed his 2013 contract. In terms of player development also the Jets. Fitz is, and always has been, what he is. A suitable backup QB. Sanchez certainly had more upside if handled properly.
  8. Maybe the Finns are jockeying for a better draft position. Smart. Colts, those losers, tanked a whole season, not just two meaningless games, in order to win for the next 10 or 12. Players should always play hard, even if only for pride. But that's not to say that the brain trust should not take executive action. Reality is a dirty business.
  9. That a great QB, as opposed to a bad one, will improve the results of a team with an incompetent HC is a high probability proposition. Hardly worth debating tho and somewhat beside the point.
  10. You were right the first time. This time, not so much. HC in the NFL is a very tough assignment. It's not surprising that relatively few people do it well. It demands many different altitudes and abilities. Almost all of which Chan has regrettably demonstrated he does not possess.
  11. Right, and for that reason the continuity argument is bogus. Note that they are not coming out and saying that Chan's a good coach. And if Chan is not a good coach you will inevitably lose continuity anyway. So why do they want to keep this guy around in the first place. Assuming they really do, what's the true reason?
  12. Oh I was just thinking of all the great players we consistently passed on in favour of lesser talents on in all but one of the last dozen or so drafts. A draft record like that is actually not all over the league. But yeah a few teams have been as bad I guess. The Rams come to mind.
  13. Yeah, and don't forget, especially the Bills.
  14. Wasn't proposing to kill anyone either, just wouldn't mind knowing what the thinking was, because ithe decision could well have been a mistake. Oh and lots of good players get passed over, and then people regret it.
  15. True. Many Rams fans disagreed with his being cut loose. He had a hammy in camp and Fisher wanted to send a message about toughness in preseason practices ala Eagles and Steeler. If he stays healthy that was a huge miss by the FO. Demario has said that he had a great workout and based on the Bills reactions he was sure he was going to be signed. I wonder who at OBD put the kibosh on it.
  16. The thing most likely to queer the RGIII deal (and I'm not saying its likely to happen) is injury. True he is about the same size as Steve Young, but SY took a beating. No telling now if RGIII will be as durable or less so. The prospect of career limiting injury can affect all players, certainly QBs, but is less likely to bite A Luck or Cam Newton.
  17. Problem is that Chan has proven conclusively that he cannot do any of that, whatever the reason. So he needs to go IMO.
  18. Didn't he get that extension after 4 games? Doesn't it take the league about 4 games to figure out what your doing on offence and make adjustments? Does Fitz have the ability to permit changes in scheme or gameplan to counter those adjustments? Yes, yes and no. That is all ye need to know.
  19. Should be a high 1st round pick in this draft class. Wouldnt feel good about starting him right away though. He would be better served by holding the clipboard for at least a year IMO. If we stay where we are now in the draft order we should be in position to get Barkely, Smith or Wilson either by standing pat or maybe moving up since we could well be within striking distance. Need (and have) more time to decide whether that is the right strategy though given this years draft class. Last year was a no brainer.
  20. Take the points and the Jags. They have upgraded their QB position and even without MJD they have some playmakers.
  21. IMO DJ can develop into a decent # 2 receiver, or at least a solid starter further down the depth chart (esp if Stevie is in reality an outstanding # 2 and we still need to find a true #1 receiver). DJs ceiling is maybe just a notch below Pierre Garcon, which is not bad. Truth is he is probably a better and more useful player than Meachem, who has been a bust in SD and now replaced by Denario Alexander. This team has more than one spot to fill in order to be fully competitive talent wise with playoff caliber opposition. But they are pretty close. The problem is at the QB position. Get a bona fide starter under centre and this offence in particular could really tear it up. It would give the D a much needed lift as well. The whole team would play better. Quite possibly much better.
  22. He has a more diversified skill set than you are giving him credit for. He was fired from GT in part because he refused to throw the ball - even though he had Calvin Johnson on his roster. I think another poster had it right. Chan wants to show the world what a genius he is by not doing what anyone with half a brain would do. He hasn't figured out that this means he winds up doing what only someone with no brain at all would do. Smart boy. He has managed to lose the team. Jackson, even Fitz are calling out his gameplan and playcalls.
  23. The coaching is a big question mark for me too. I look around sometimes tho and I wonder if its just us. What is Andy Reid thinking with a pass happy gameplay with a lousy O-line and a stud like McCoy in the backfield? Why is JG passing three times in a row on 2nd and 1 on the Giants 20 with the game on the line? Is Felix Jones really that unreliable?
  24. He doesn't. He gets his share. Unfortunately it's a generous portion.
