  1. I agree. IMO AS is a good QB and would represent a major upgrade. Don't know what the plan is at OBD however.
  2. Huh? I'm totally laid back and I don't remember blaming any QBs. My question really really really is about Goff's deep ball. Go back and check out the play that was being discussed (if you have it). Sammy has his guy beat and has to hold up. He boxed the corner out of the play very well but did not complete the catch, which he should have. I've seen Goff underthrow him a number of times this year. If the Rams don't give him a contract they will need to find another guy who is a threat in the vertical passing game. Otherwise Woodsie and Kupp (who are possession receivers) will not be handing in such good report cards next year. And that's really just a comment on the Rams O. Now if you want my view of Sammy, I think he was a legit high first rounder. But he was only worth one first round pick, not two. I think Doug was the only one of the 32 GMs who would have done what he did, especially given the strength of the class. You don't do what Doug did for anyone not named Calvin or Julio. I never thought Sammy was a generational talent. You really can't blame the player for that. OTOH Doug did get it right when he picked RW in the second round. He's legit as a # 2 receiver, he's a great blocker (despite his infraction yesterday). Just a good, hard nosed football player. Always liked him a lot. Go Bills!!!
  3. I said he should have caught that ball (in case you didn't notice). The point I was making had more to do with Goff than Sammy. I see him often underthrowing Sammy after he has beaten his man. He's a good short/intermediate passer but it's got me wondering about his long ball accuracy and arm strength.
  4. Agree but something I've noticed this year is that as their long ball threat Goff constantly underthrows him. Raises at least a question in my mind as to Goff's armstrength long ball accuracy.
  5. Well I certainly agree that we should hold on to him if we cannot do better. If you revisit my post you will see that I was asking 26 who he wanted to draft as part of an ongoing discussion. The sort of thing that happens on a message board. I appreciate your intervention but only he can answer that question.
  6. Well I certainly like Tyrod (the person anyway) too, but I think you will be having to kiss him goodbye. Sorry. My question was for 26 (not you), who is mindful of Tyrod's limitations. He's also not keen on another vet as a bridge it seems. So I just wanted to know what QB he wanted in this year's class. But I don't think he wants to answer that question, for whatever reason.
  7. Ok, so who do you like? Do you know? Still dreaming?
  8. Everybody knows you don't like Nate (even if you don't hate him), so I wasn't thinking of him. I take it you want to draft one. Not a bad plan. Who then?
  9. Newsflash - Ok, so he does hate Alex Smith after all. My bad. Wonder who he likes? Any QB as long as we draft him? Whadya say 26?
  10. 26 actually isn't against Alex Smith. And he's not enamoured of Tyrod either. He's having a wet dream where the Bills draft the ghost of Jim Kelly who immediately leads the team to a half dozen consecutive Super Bowl victories. Not to worry. He will wake up eventually.
  11. I don't think Andy can reasonably expect a first and we shouldn't give one just because we have 2. Jimmy G. bagged Belly a 2nd.
  12. It is absurd to suggest that he will be cut. He either stays or is traded.
  13. I'd go in with my poker face and offer a third. I would cough up a second though and try to extend him for an extra 2 years at a (hopefully) reasonable rate.
  14. I agree with McShay and Kiper that Allen will be the third QB to come off the board, probably a top 10 pick. Rosen is the clear # 1 although there may be some drama to come regarding his maybe not wanting to play for the Browns. I would probably grade Darnold ahead of Allen but not by much if at all TBH. They are both somewhat raw but with very high ceilings. Darnold has a windup delivery where the ball dips as low as hip level. They tried over the summer to change his release but apparently were not able to do so. Hard to break bad habits that a player falls into naturally. Some observers are very worried about this. Others say they can probably live with it. He often does not set up properly even when he has time. He trusts his arm too much and will throw into coverage. The picks are the result. Allen actually has much better throwing mechanics. No wasted motion, generally straight over the top. Good weight transfer, steps into his throws properly. Like Stafford he has so much arm strength that he can throw with zip sidearm or any which way that a situation requires. Like Darnold and most other strong armed youngsters he too trusts in his armstrength too much for his own good at times. Darnold is athletic but Allen is bigger, stronger and even more athletic. He routinely breaks not only arm tackles but straight up "put you on the ground" type tackles. He is also not just football fast-he is flat out fast. From what (little) I've seen the claim that he is inaccurate is not quite correct. His accuracy is inconsistent, sometimes spot on, sometimes not. I never thought EJ was an accurate passer at any level, FSU or NFL. Allen looks to me like someone who can improve in that department and in ball placement. Some people who have seen all of his games say that it would be a mistake to look at his lousy stat sheet and conclude that he is truly a sub 60% completion passer. His 2017 supporting cast was not great, the team having lost four starters to the NFL. His armstrength is not good. It's not great. It's insane. Deep out to the opposite hash? Ball gets there in a nanosecond. It's ridiculous. From all accounts Allen's intangibles are very good. A clean, competitive kid with the will and the work ethic to be great. That's why I view with suspicion the conclusion that he could be another Jamarcus Russell. Frankly if he were available with our first pick I would be all over this guy and he looks to me like the type of QB that Beane likes. There were lots of questions concerning Cam's accuracy and ball placement when he came out. We won't be drafting him IMO because he's going top 10-15. During the pre-draft evaluations you know he's going to stand out. No doubt some teams will fall in love with him, and with justification IMO.
  15. You can certainly find a good to serviceable RB in later rounds, in FA or off the street even. There is a big difference between that kind of guy and a franchise back. The crazy thing about this year's draft is that there are a number of players that could seriously be regarded as franchise backs. Sometimes there's only one in a class. More often none. That's why it will be interesting to see how OBD will approach this class. They already have a franchise back on the roster, but for how much longer. How much importance do they attribute to the position? Do they prioritize it more than they usually would because of the talent available? As a trend picking franchise backs early is back in fashion in the NFL - Zeke, Fournette. There are so many this year they could nab one in the second, maybe even in the third.
  16. This is a very good description of Penny as a runner. The writer is absolutely right in saying that Penny is a three down back because of his versatility. As a runner he is not limited situationally. But some observers say he is not good in pass pro. That ability can factor into whether you translate as a three down back at the next level. He will be asked to work on that. Eager to see how the brass will approach the RB issue in the upcoming draft. It is a need and given the strength of this year's class they may burn a meaningful pick on one.
  17. I think this has been discussed. Presumably if they opt for a vet he will be someone who is good enuf to start. Alex Smith, Teddy Bridgewater etc... One guy backing him up (presumably Peterman) and another on the PS if not on the active roster. That's sort of normal or at least not unusual. That of course assumes that they do not use the bulk of their draft capital to move up for someone they see as their franchise guy. In that case you might well not bring in a vet to start (so Peterman would be or would back up the starter, depending on who won the job, and you roll with two QBs). Or you bring into TC a lower level vet to back up as a security blanket and if he beats out Peterman (the result you seem inclined to believe) and they don't want to carry 3 QBs, then so be it.
  18. Tyrod is certainly the more reliable option at this time. But of the two he might not be next year. Tyrod has been in the league a long time. He is what he is and has always pretty much been. Peterman has been in the league a couple of months. To assume that eight months from now Tyrod will continue to be the more desireable starter assumes that Peterman cannot improve or cannot improve enuf to surpass him. I don't see any good and sufficient reason for necessarily coming to that conclusion, certainly not the fact that he was overmatched in his first start or was picked in the fifth round. That's just too easy. Neither at this point is there reason for saying that NP will definitely improve (enuf). But the word around the league seems to be that the Bills like him and see something there worth working with. Obviously I'm not a football professional and I'm not close to the action, don't get to see the practices etc...but as a fan my impression, and that's all that it can be at this point, aligns with that.
  19. Fair comment. I'm wishful thinking a bit. Andy Reid is rumoured to want a second and that's what it might well cost. Also tho a third might be doable Tyrod might only garner a fourth what with the # of vet QBs who make be on the market. And of course not every QB is scheme versatile. I like Alex Smith partly because I think he could execute Dennison's offence. But he might not fit everywhere. Actually, before it became obvious that the Browns were going (again) to be in a position to draft at the top I thought Tyrod might be a good choice for Hue Jackson's O in Cleveland.
  20. Sure. Some keep 3 some keep 2. If you are lucky enuf to land a decent prospect in the mid to later rounds you would probably PS him unless you were worried about poaching.
