Bridgewater - the luster has come off
cage replied to OldTimer1960's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hmmm,... I'd like to see a few mock drafts on who's available at #9 if no QBs go in the top 10.... haven't seen one like that yet -
I think they would have to bring back the old Sabres "slug" logo... if Trump bought the team it would be fitting!! The commentary on this article is Nostradamus like.... I'm scared!

Favorite draft pick by the Bills this millenium?
cage replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At the "time of the draft" it would have to be Cordy Glenn. Lets recall the context. I think that was the first draft where the 2nd round was broken out to the next day. We were picking 9th and Glenn was still on the board with every team having overnight to think about it. He was on a bunch of mocks as our 1st round pick, Tackle was a HUGE need and I'm sure every team (as well as everyone on this board) knew the Bills wanted Glenn. I was positive the only way to get him was to move up... .which never happened. When he dropped to the Bills, I was ecstatic! -
Wow, hadn't seen the details on this story before.... makes me surprised that Marrone and Moore would take him back... scratching my head now
-
Or the highest rated player with the last name of 'Williams" as we're clearly trying to field 22 players with that name in order to stir confusion with the opposition!
-
Yeah, but that might mean that Khalil Mack drops to us?!? If Evans moved up, someone moves back....
-
I agree... and in that context, we occasionally hear talk on the board about flipping him to RT and drafting a new LT. I think would be folly and set off the fast track to Glenn wanting to leave Buffalo. A flip to RT would be seen as undercutting his value in getting him to sign a new contract. He's a LT and should be paid like one.... or someone else will.

What about a trade with Chicago?
cage replied to Chi-town Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good response! What else are we supposed to talk about?? -
Certainly Luck and Rogers,... possibly Kaepernick or Wilson There is someone else I've really changed my tune on. I'm not sure I would quite give 2 first round picks given that he's 33 now, but would come close.... Eli Manning. He's shown toughness, he shown he can win big games, he knows the cold. I didn't think much of him for a long time, but he's earned quite a bit of respect the last few years... For the purposes of this conversation lets overlook what he did when he was drafted by the Chargers and that he probably wouldn't want to come here. But I ask ya,...why no love for Eli?

Sammy Watkins, worth trading up for? What cost?
cage replied to MClem06's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure how many spots we would have to move up... I would be willing to swap 1sts and add a third. Don't want to give away a 2nd, we still have too many needs. Perhaps would go as far as a 3rd and a 5th/6th, but that's it. That probably enables us to move up 2-3 spots, so he would have to be available at #6 at the least.... -
Bills sign CB Corey Graham--interview on BB.com
cage replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We've had multiple lost-game injuries every year at CB, often multiple players. Certainly upgrade over Justin Rogers who actually had to start last year. Plus Aaron Williams had to start several games at CB as well... so great pickup! -
How about we sign both of them?

How about Da'rick Holmes?

Its called entertainment... we are watching football here. Look at this thread, its running on 14 pages. If he had given a low key, selfless interview praising his teammates, coaches and how difficult it was to compete against an incredible athlete like Michael Crabtree, would a thread about how great a play Richard Sherman is even reach 2 pages? This is why we watch Football... and boxing, MMA, wrestling...

BTW, this is my best posted topic ever on this board, currently running a 11 pages! Though I do think I've had more insightful topics than this one.... heh!

The next great QB rivalry: Wilson vs. Kaepernick
cage replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While I agree, I also wonder what how it might have played out if either of them became a Bill? Fitzpatrick still would have started as the rookies were brought along slowly and not given a proper shot on the field. Gailey would have stubbornly clinged to Fitz, despite everyone's outcry until he got fired. This might have been their first year's as starters in the league. Not sure we would be talking about either one in the same way if they had become Bills?!? -
Absolutely hysterical interview after a great play! What a player and that's what you want to hear.... afterwards

State of the Bills... from a new Steelers fan perspective
cage replied to Dr. Trooth's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Really? All that typing to start with that. So a bunch of men (coaches and players) from every part of the country that are hired and drafted onto this team can't play well because of the Western NY economy? That's silly. By that logic the team should be undefeated in Toronto. Would the team instantly contend for the SB if it was moved up there? We attracted Free Agents just fine when the team was doing well. And Mario Williams last year when the team appeared on the upswing. Hockey players had no problem coming to Buffalo just after the start of the Pegula regime. Robyn Regier waved his no trade clause to come here and Christian Erhoff also signed long-term in Buffalo after getting traded here just a few days before free agency began. The NY Islanders tried the same trick with him the week before, but he wouldn't sign there ... so that's a pretty lame reason -
I agree they were stretching some of these... but that just makes the point of how few really intensive QB rivalries there are. That's why I dropped several of these from the poll Next up and coming one could Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick.... this is the 2nd straight year they're meeting in the playoffs, NFC Championship and division rivalry. Could join this list in a few more intensive years...
-
Top 10 list,... not sure I agree with all these, however it does demonstrate how difficult it is to find too many great rivalries. In order to be a real rivalry, i think they have to be in the same conference in order to meet several times in the course of a career. I also think that they both need to be HOFers and finally there need to be multiple playoff meetings with everything on the line... With that, vote on the subset, call out any that I missed. I included Bradshaw / Staubach even though they played in opposite conferences as they met in multiple SBs I'll play the homer and vote for Kelly / Marino as they were division rivals so have the largest body of work. Those games were always electric 2 and sometimes 3x per year!

Bills sign WR Ramses Barden, 4 others to futures contracts
cage replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
2012,...Must've been against the Bills D.... can't play them for 16 straight weeks -
I do like that idea,... but there is some fun and strategy in going for 1pt or 2, so it adds an element to the game particularly in the 4th quarter when strategy around the decision has such an impact on the outcome

I agree. I can't think of another sport that has such a non-competitive play. And the kick-off is becoming a close second. -- Narrow the goal posts -- Move the kick-off back 5 yards to where it was -- and actually Bellichek had a good idea about extra points to make them more interesting. Take your pick; 2pt conversion from the 2yd line or kick extra point from the 20 yd line Its not sport if a play is designed to be non-competitive...
