....retires after getting cut. Another reminder of the utter difficulty of drafting in this league. Amazing whenever consensus "best players" and "safest pick" of the draft go down in flames and nobody could have predicted it at the time.... Look at the top 5 that year at the bottom of the article! Amazing...

I'm not advocating this idea, but Williams was horrible in Q1 against Redskins. Both big pass plays were his fault. He was totally out of position and also poor tackling

Watch the hysteria if Leinart lights it up on Thursday.

Exactly.... we're fans and should be able to vent, cheer, be optimistic or pessimistic. The debates all part of the NFL experience. If we can be that dispassionate about it then we may as well be raking leaves on Sundays... -
How profitable are the Jaguars??

Bills plan for Tuel as week 1 starter
cage replied to DisplacedBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Come'on dude we have to believe in something.... what would be more surprising Tuel playing well or our CBs without Gilmore picking off Brady 3 times on the way to victory? Odds are long on both, but I'll go w/ the QB -

He was injured in the 4th preseason game and his back-up went down if I recall correctly... Warner was 3rd string guy and the Rams season under Dick Vermiel was expected to be shot -

A Few Belated and Abbreviated Thoughts About The Game.....
cage replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree w/ OP on Gilmore... he had a horrible game Saturday even excluding the INT drop Tuel really hurt himself with his performance, he started well and then seemed to lose confidence after he got stymied a few times. Without an exceptional performance Thursday, he might be headed to PS as soon as EJ can start No problem w/ Freddie in Faulk role. He certainly has slowed down, but we had to expect some of that. I hope he can still be an effective situational back for another 1-2 years behind Spiller. Thurman had his Kenneth Davis who we all loved and hopefully he can be that at this stage -
Kyle Moore (DE), Bears Kellen Heard (DT), Colts Mark Asper (OG), Jaguars Michael Jasper (OL), Giants Terrence Sinkfield (WR), Giants ... thats it so far, lots of teams haven't reported their cuts yet

Bills Trade for Lions QB Thaddeus Lewis
cage replied to BRAWNDO's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Tuel really hurt himself with the performance against the Redskins... 0 first downs in the 2nd half was just terrible. The whole thought of him being the primary backup has gone out the window as of yesterday. He probably can change that viewpoint with a convincing performance next week. I'm sure he'll get at least a half. But without a strong showing next week he'll have to be headed to the Practice Squad... -

Its a good paying job, knows the offense....and could very well start over Tuel if he was cut. But as pointed out, looking less likely to happen. Furthermore, if by some chance we could get him, it would become far easier to release Kolb altogether and let T-Jax be the veteran back-up to help Manuel I'm not pro-Brad Smith at all and in other threads had advocated that he should not be kept over one of the young receivers. However, in light of this situation, it seems that he's as good a choice as any of the seemingly available QBs. -

I all honesty, I think I would prefer Brad Smith as Tuel's backup over any of these guys... athletic, mobile, knows the offense better than any of these guys can and perhaps gives us more options. Anyone on this list is just a body who would contribute absolutely nothing... they may as well sign me. I think Smith's job was just saved... -
comforting...

I'm stuck on thinking of a name..... I can't think of a single player to say something positive about from yesterday Kolb... toast Tuel... not ready for primetime A. William... burnt toast on several plays Running game.... nothing Special teams... fumble, big returns allowed, no good returns Pass protection... terrible Penalties... drive killing Even Gilmore... dropped interception and poor coverage Stevie.... wasn't even hit when he started fumbling Tight Ends... invisible Pass rush.... generally poor Run defense.... Gailey-ish did I miss anything?

Google to bid on Sunday Ticket? (link inside)
cage replied to Beebes Bubble's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm blown away that DirecTV has been able to hang on to Sunday Ticket this long. I'd really rather see the NFL drop the exclusivity and let all providers offer Sunday Ticket. I've got to believe they would make waaayyyy more money that route than just auctioning it off to the highest bidder -
Hmmm,... interesting article. Sully's clearly trolling this board. I'll take credit for handing him a topic, though I clearly got the premise wrong. I thought the injury would push Byrd to delay signing much longer. However, in retrospect, I think a player begins to damage his reputation when he disrupts the season and starts to miss actual games as well as game checks. I hope Byrd has a big year and then rolls it into a big contract.... with the Bills!

Half way through Preseason. What are your concerns?
cage replied to CountDorkula's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe its because Jerry Hughes will be the next Bryce Paup?? -
I suppose not.... I guess the main take-away is that this makes him less likely to show up anytime soon
-
Wow,... I assume everyone has seen/read about the gravity of Dustin Keller's injury on Saturday. Torn ACL, MCL, PCL, with a dislocated kneecap... in a preseason game! Lost for the year and early speculation that he'll never be the same and whether he would even be able to play again. Then the "wow" part about it that I had no idea. He signed with the Dolphins on a 1 year contract! I have no idea why he would do such a thing, but that takes us back to Byrd and the reluctance to accept Franchise deals by players. I don't blame them, most players only have one shot to get paid and they have to hold strong for that to happen. I don't understand why there's a deadline for signing a long-term deal? This injury probably makes it less likely that Byrd will come in anytime soon....

The offense seemed to come easy to EJ and Tuel
cage replied to NYCBoozers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Tuel should be in play to start depending on how the next 2 games go. I"m assuming he'll play the second half in the next game and 3 quarters the following week. If those games play out anywhere near how the Colts game did AND EJ is not ready to play in Week 1, then I think they have to give strong consideration to starting Tuel over Kolb.... just my thoughts. -
Good sarcasm, I suppose.... however the OP wasn't proposing an outlandish trade. The guy he wanted was a young, potentially very good, but currently BACKUP Guard. Also, the Seahawks seem to have a need at WR, where we have some surplus. I'm not sure why your response is called for in this scenario??
-
Seattle's in a position where they need to wait until November for Harvin and are potentially a Super Bowl contending team,... Brad Smith is the surer choice for their needs. I'm liking this idea a lot. If this gave us a young starting LG, I'd have no problem throwing in a low round draft pick w/ Smith. Would rather keep TJ, not going to dismiss him because of some rookie year struggles
-
I like that idea much better! I think he's become expendable. If we needed to throw in a pick w/ Smith, I like that better than w/ Graham.
