What if the Bills game is blacked out?
Metal Man replied to apikefish's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't get all the angst towards posters who would rather watch the game at home or in a bar that fly around these types of threads all the time. I personally had season tickets for years before I moved away but have had tickets in the family for over 40 years and I don't remember ever feeling the need to lord over others that didn't attend as much as I did. I get the idea of supporting the team or it will leave but in today's NFL isn't it just as important to have TV ratings up to keep the real NFL money maker rolling? Shouldn't buying a new Bills jersey or t-shirt every year to watch in your living room or your favorite bar count too, or are those people also somehow less of a fan as well? I would think people have tons of legitimate reasons for not being able to, or not wanting to attend the games so I can't see a good reason to attack them for choosing to have their entertainment in the way that is best suited for them. It is like telling someone they are an a-hole for deciding to wait for a movie on DVD instead of seeing it in the theater. It makes more sense to challenge the NFL to see what they could do better to entice people back into the stadiums or what they could stop doing that is driving people away. I'm sure even those of us who still go to the games a lot can find things to improve in both of those categories. -
I have heard it mentioned in the Syracuse area before as having good wings. Haven't been able to try it out yet though. From what I was told it is take-out only and seeing I am up in Liverpool it is a little far (10+ miles) for a pick-up order or delivery. If I ever end up in parking Skytop for an SU football game I'll make sure to run over and grab an order first to see what the fuss is about.

It amazes me how polarizing the Duff's conversation always is. I actually like the wings swimming in sauce soup as they tend to be at the Amherst location but I have friends who hate it. I haven't been in a while but they used to have a killer lunch special there when I was living/working in that area. I agree that the Orchard Park location doesn't seem as good and I thought the Eastern Hills Mall Duff's was terrible the one time I tried it out. For all of you who still live in the Buffalo area you should feel pleased that you have these kinds of choices as even the low end WNY wings likely beat most in the rest of the country. I never thought I'd find anything close in Syracuse where I am now but for anyone who is or ever will be in the area Change of Pace Sports Bar is pretty d@mn good and this is coming from an admitted wing snob.

Will the Carolina game be blacked out?
Metal Man replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was thinking the exact same thing the past week and this morning after checking FB and Twitter. Too soon in the season to hope for a Russ Salvatore bailout? -

My first thought was that she was actually covered in chocolate. And it worked because now I am rationalizing with myself how I deserve a candy bar out of the office "snack shack". -
With Oden on Our Side is the one I really like and got me into them in the first place. Every release since then I have enjoyed. Love Luther Allison as well by the way.

For brand new music I am ashamed to say my girlfriend has somehow influenced me to listen to country occasionally, when on my own even. I'm a big blues fan too so I picked up Buddy Guy's new album that dropped a couple weeks ago recently. However for metal I am in the same boat as you in that I haven't found anything brand new I like a lot . Black Sabbath's new release was great but I don't think that really qualifies. Today at work I have been listening to old Atreyu and Deftones. Earlier this year I did pick up the new release by Amon Amarth because I thought their last two albums were pretty good. This is one is along the same lines. If you haven't heard of them I guess you would classify it as Melodic Viking Metal. These guys have also been around for a little while so again not sure it qualifies as "new".

I agree with everything you said except for the AAA comparison. The Japanese leagues are a step above that though I still don't think they should count towards any MLB records. One thing they mentioned last night though that I found pretty telling on how good Ichiro has been is that no one in the history of MLB has gotten 2722 hits in a 13 season span like Ichiro has. Might not be worth celebrating but I was still OK with it. Nice to have some baseball news out there with a positive spin versus all the a-rod and ped news every day.

Great choices 122. Also a big fan of KSE and I agree, As Daylight Dies is fantastic all the way through.

I suppose I should be expected to comment here claiming to be a man of metal. For the sub genre of metal I would put this in, screamo with some melody, it is pretty decent. Definitely has some solid rocking metal going on at it's core but as other's mentioned nothing to really made it distinctly stand out from the tons of bands I have heard like this too. I think the mixing could have used a bit of tweaking, the lead guitar was a little low right at the start when it kicked in and as gungy mentioned during the solo. But as far as this type of music goes the band sounded tight. With a little luck I could see them on a second stage at Ozzfest or something along those lines and from there who knows.

Gilligan was on the Nerdist podcast right before the airing of the first episode. I know Chris Hardwick is hit or miss with his interviewing as was discussed in the podcast thread but this episode was actually pretty good. Especially if you're a BB fan. They spent the bulk of the 80 minutes talking about BB. However if you're not current I wouldn't listen because there were season 1-5.5 spoilers for sure... though if you aren't current you probably shouldn't be in this thread to begin with. -

Well now you're opening up the discussion/debate on state rights vs federal government. Probably a quick way to get this thread sent to PPP. -

Right, but the question is will people still be tested for something that has become legal or will marijuana be removed from the "bad" list? -

This is a good point. I have wondered how it affects other jobs in those states now too. For instance most government jobs require drug testing so does that mean in Washington State and Colorado you can still be refused employment for a legal activity you might partake in on your day off? Will be interesting to see how this unfolds once the rest of the country catches up with this legal reform. -

That is fantastic. I hope I am around long enough to see this kind of forward thinking happening in NY. -
I'm with you guys. When it comes to winning the game there is no doubt a win is a win and years from now no one will remember the Bills could have had one win less. I wouldn't argue against that at all. My flip side isn't about being against getting a "cheap" win, it is more about my personal curiosity about how the new D will look against one of the best QBs in the game. Obviously if it was a choice between winning the game or not I'd take the win.

I'm finding myself torn on this news.... On one hand anything that will help the Pats* lose is a wonderful thing. However the other part of me wants to see the Bills facing the real New England* come September to see how we match up.

True, it is all out of context since we have no idea what the state of everyone is at this point. Couldn't be too far in the future though seeing that during the flash forward at the start of last year he was celebrating his 52nd birthday and then later in that season during present time he was celebrating 51. This still has me wondering why he just wouldn't make some more ricin. Even if he isn't risking much it would seem a lot simpler to just do it at home. I guess as far as a plot device goes though it is better to see him retrieving it as a foreshadowing of something to come. -

One thing I was kind of curious about.... Why would Walt risk going back to his seized house for the ricin? It didn't seem like it was that difficult for him to make it way back in season 2 when he did it the first time so risking being seen to recover the poison didn't seem worth it to me. -

Since when have any of these ESPN "journalists" every bothered with research before spouting opinion? ESPN is far from being a news outlet. Supposedly entertaining idiots just regurgitating the popular opinion is all you ever get from them. "Oh the Bills? Well they always stunk so I'm going to say all their draft picks were bad and they still stink." Way to think outside the box guys. -
I think the special teams play has me most impressed so far. Especially seeing most of those guys out there will be the same ones playing ST in the regular season unlike the late efforts of the O and D.

5 NFL Teams That Should Just Move Already
Metal Man replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
" A full 40% of the city's street lights have been turned out. Roughly 120,000 of its buildings sit empty. Response times for 911 calls extend to nearly an hour, while fewer than 9% of crimes are ever solved." Wow, I knew Detroit was in rough shape but this sounds like it is close to becoming the Detroit from Robocop. Maybe all the teams should get out of there and then we can just wall it up Escape From New York style. -
NFL to examine quality of preseason, lower ticket prices
Metal Man replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It is nice they are finally looking at something that people have been complaining about forever. It always felt like a punishment having to buy two of these meaningless games at full price a year as a season ticket holder. With the exception of kids day at Ralph I can't imagine that many "non-season ticket" seats actually get sold to these games so why not make your season ticket holders happy while at the same time increasing the chances someone would actually walk up to the gate and buy a seat to these meaningless games? -
Bills preseason games 1 and 3 will be LIVE on NFLN

Finally found my own answer for anyone that might have been interested. Looks like CBS 5 is picking it up live in the Syracuse area. http://www.tvguide.com/Listings/ -

Metal Man replied to FluffHead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anyone have any info about local affiliates who may be picking up the game for people without NFLN? Where I am, in the Syracuse area, one of the local channels has picked up the feed and broadcast the game in years past but so far I haven't been able to dig up any concrete info if that will be happening this Sunday yet.
