  1. I like the 2018 offense MUCH more, at least on paper. Here is why, in descending order: 1. New OC. Even if everything else stayed the same, the new OC will be a vast improvement. Daboll will have these guys ready and will make more adjustments to opponents week in and out. 2. More aggressive scheme. I expect our QB's to take more chances for big-plays. This will lessen the "8 in the box" and help the running game. How smart they are with ball placement will determine if this leads to more INT's or simply more in-completions. 3. Healthy Benjamin and Coleman. This is NOT a bad WR group...on paper. Let's see what they do on Sunday's. Add in TE Clay and Kurley, plus depth with our rookies and some vets, and I doubt it is as bad as we believe. 4. Running game. Won't need to ride Shady all day. A great complement of backups in Cadet, Ivory, etc. 5. O-Line. I'd say this is a wash: Wood was a great character, smart, and tough, but I'm not sure he was an "all-pro" center. Above average, without a doubt. But I think Groy can pickup the slack like he did 2 years ago. Incognito may have declined this year anyway given his age. But hopefully Miller can step in and revert to form.
  2. and don't forget Pitt Grad Tyler Boyd! It's great to see the media reporting on these good stories. A lot of good in football, but "good" doesn't sell in the media.
  3. this may win the award for most "philosophical" post of the year. Yeah, sometimes I'm like, "why do I care," then I can't answer it. I think people are naturally competitive and want to win, and when you have less control over the outcome (such as being a fan at home), you become even more crazy about it!
  4. an interesting but not unlikely scenario. Esp. if we can get a 4th or 3rd. Will all depend on how Allen looks in preseason. I'm not in the "Nate Peterman" is the franchise QB camp, but I do believe he stays around longer than McCarron, who may be too expensive to pay after 2 years here. He may find a starting job elsewhere, and Peterman is Allen's backup. I also think Peterman would not clear waivers, he'd be picked up by the Colts or some other QB thin team.
  5. It's WAAAAAYYYYY to early, but I can't help it. I'm excited about this draft class, both the drafted and UDFA guys. How has Levi Wallace looked during camp? Was happy we got him, as we need some DB depth.
  6. I've read he is one of the more impressive rookies in camp. Would be fantastic if Foster and Phillips can become factors in this offense, even as quality depth.
  7. it will deepen after week 2. Because whoever wins the QB battle, will look awful after week 1
  8. Good point. But, to be fair, the D line last year was abysmal against the run. So with a guy like Phillips ahead of him. A. Washington could be cut. Esp. if a better player is cut from another team or becomes available. These 1 on 1's seem difficult to grade for me. There is another narrative that Miller is MUCH IMPROVED. So, is Washington bad, or is Miller dominant? How's Miller looking against Phillips? Can't wait for preseason games!!!
  9. I hope so. Last year Groy never played, even during injuries. He was "saved" as a backup center. And I'm not sure Ducasse is better than Groy. Miller, yes, but I'd like to see Groy get more reps with the #1's at Guard.
  10. totally agree. I mean it's terrible to have a QB with a bit of swagger. Just look how Kelly, Brady, Big Ben, Brees, Manning (Peyton), Rodgers, etc. have panned out. You need some confidence and swagger to be a great QB, IMO. I like it. He is serious at camp, and has fun with the fans. Sounds like the perfect DNA for a franchise QB. I really hope he pans out.
  11. it's puzzling to me why the coaching staff is not moving Gory to guard, or even seemingly considering it. Perhaps they will.
  12. I'd trade up for Bosa. But doing that from the 20's could be hard I would love Barr in Buffalo!
  13. I'm in. I like the non-Bills idea, but would do it with the Bills also.
  14. I'd also put 8 in the box. Make the Bills prove they can throw. And I'd rush the passer and play man on all WR's until the Bills can throw. McCarron and Peterman are bad with pressure (sacks v. INT's) and Allen is a rookie. That said, our WR's could surprise, and after getting burnt perhaps a few times, the D coordinator would need to change. But until then, I'd run this type of D.
  15. this is the most excitting pre-season for the Bills in a long time. So much stuff to keep an eye on: (1) clearly, the QB battle and how Allen performs; (2) WR's, who is #2; (3) O-line; (4) D. Will it be even more dominant than last season; (5) what will Daboll's offense look like. I know, schemes are generally vanilla in pre-season, but the individual play in the vanilla situations should be telling. Individual players to watch: Allen, Lawson, Peterman, Zay (if he returns); A. Washington; entire O-line; all WR's not named Benjamin. And about 10 others I've left out!
  16. yes, I would pay him more than Mario. He's LT good. what if he changes his name? He could play in disguise for the Bills. Perhaps be incognito??
  17. humm, if it applies to RB's trying to bang for a few more yards that could impact that game for sure. I'm thinking more Troy Polomeau (sp) flying head-first tackles. Hopefully does not apply in RB situation, or RB's will have to play more "shifty" like shady. Days of guys like "The Bus" would be gone. I thought my middle school coach was deranged in the 90's, but perhaps not as much as others
  18. engaged to a Pats**** fan living in Boston. Man, that's gotta be miserable.
  19. I like the onside kick idea if you have a dominating D. I'd actually try it for the Bills this year in a OT situation. Perhaps recover, or perhaps stop, other team gets FG at worst. I'm sure someone will try this. Funny thing, as always, if it works you are a genius, if not, your the moron of the century. Oh well, I'd like it regardless of how it turns out. Gotta take some risks sometimes.
  20. I don't think so. It's always been illegal but rarely enforced. Your taught not to lead with your head in middle school. About time the NFL enforces fundamentals to keep players safe. putting your head to the side and tacking with your shoulder and wrapping up is much more natural, IMO.
  21. McDermott is my surprise player of the year. Guy has physical talent. where is DE BEER. Esp. on Friday. Bring on de Beer!!!
  22. I was SHOCKED that he was available. He will be dominant on the inside. And will keep Kyle and Star fresh through a rotation. 3 high-quality NT's. he beat Groy 1 on 1. Groy is a solid player. Plus, you can be that Fraizer will make sure that if they put a top guy on Phillips, Edmunds will be wreaking havoc or Lorax or someone else.
  23. I agree. The only time he needs to exhibit extreme confidence is when he is on the field, and he does that. I believe he has the confidence and attitude to be successful. Now, if we can fix his short passing game, he will be a long-time starter for us!
  24. I think he is just trying to be the best he can, learn from the Vets, and I guarantee he wants to starts, but understands if he doesn't.
  25. this will be a big difference this year, IMO. If our QB's can read the entire field and go through progressions, we get 1-2 more TD's a game. TT locked onto his #1 too often, then ran. Which was fine a lot of times because he can run, but missing wide-open WR's was also a clear skill of his. the TT situation this year will be interesting. If he has terrible stats heading into week 3, watch out. Luckily I think Cle also has a good running game, and TT should be able to lock onto Gordon or Landry. But if he is missing open guys, I predict anarchy in the CLE locker room.
