  1. To quote the generally diplomatic Steeler OL Foster: ""He’s making seven times what I make, twice as much as [LT] Al [Villanueva] is making and we’re the guys who do it for him." But the Steelers offered Bell a TON of money. Bell wants to be paid like the top WR and RB. No one here in Pittsburgh even wants him around. exactly. And this is the same with all non-guaranteed NFL contracts. He could sign a long-term deal that paid him $14 annually and had a huge guaranteed amount. or, the O-line is sick of listening to Bell whine about why he dosen't get paid. Bell is great in part because the Steelers have a great O-line. And Bell turned-down a ton of money. He's a diva.
  2. ESPN=the worst major sports network. A bunch of morons.
  3. and none of those players were on the level that Mack is. okay. when the Bears have a dominant D for the next 5 years and a QB on a rookie contract we'll see who "won" the trade. Raiders won't make the playoffs in that timespan. Bears won't have any relief in the draft? They have 2nd round and onward. They now have Mack and Roquan at LB. They will have a top 5 D. The raiders have no one. Suh and Haynesworth were bums before those trades/money. Mario was fantastic his first 3 years here with 10, 13 and 14 sacks while being on a top 5 D.
  4. And A. Donald was undersized and fell in the draft. OOps.
  5. not saying McBeane would do it, only that he should have done it. We have a rookie QB, rookie MLB, and tons of cap space and the cap goes up every year. For the best defensive player since Watt in his prime, yeah, you do that. As great as Edmunds is/will be, Mack is great now. Having them together would have been fantastic. And we need OL, WR, etc. help next year. Something that can easily be found in Round 2 onward.
  6. Peterman. Played better in preseason with the 1st team, 2nd and 3rd teams. You start Peterman and let Allen watch from the sidelines. You also don't get Allen killed by our terrible O-line. If Petterman is good/okay this year, you can trade him for a 2nd or keep him as Allen's backup next year.
  7. This was a generational talent LB that they could pare with Edmunds. We totally lack a pass rush. Giving up 2 1st for him is not bad. You can get OL help and WR help in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. We should have made the trade, and beat the Bears by including McCarron. Smoking Jay is not Mack. And they are not building the team with Mack, rather filling a hole and putting pressure on Rodgers, etc. Great trade, IMO. One we should have made. This is more akin to giving up two 1st for Bruce Smith, etc.
  8. Esp. when Mack is here and bringing pressure from the outside!!!
  9. I think the fact that A. Donald shows no signs of "going soft" ever makes this a solid investment.
  10. this is a great point. IR McCloud, and see if Coleman produces in the meantime. I also think Foster could be a force in a year or two if he is serious about learning to track the ball better. He'll be a PS candidate.
  11. Not a terrible idea, but I'm thinking there will be better WR's out there getting cut that we may take a look at. I like how Bean looks to upgrade everywhere. I believe we will be active after all the teams cut. (OL, CB, WR, DL, LB)
  12. Ray Ray if he counts as a suprise. Rilley if Ray Ray does not count. I'd take Rilley over Holmes, who is a huge disappointment.
  13. Yeah, Maddox is who I intended to say. At any rate, it IS a good comparison for the reasons you mentioned. With the exception of Maddox being an 8 year vet and Peterman being a 2nd year player, I think the coaches are familiar with Peterman by now, and are clearly committed to Allen long-term. Likely the goal is to let him learn this year, but if he learns faster than anticipated, or an injury happens, or Peterman is terrible, they play him right away. At any rate, just like the Steeler situation, Allen is the guy and will get his shot. There will not be a controversy. (and I like Peterman, Allen is just a freak ).
  14. Awesome to hear that MCD and Bean talk to all of the players individually. Likely can help those who don't make it improve their games, or perhaps its' "we have too many X, but team Y might be interested in you." Great classy move.
  15. I think this is more like Mike Tomzack and Ben Rothlesberger. Even had Tomzack not gotten hurt, Ben was going to start at some point--either his rookie year or next.
  16. Yes. We arguably have the two most important positions on the team set going forward: QB (Allen eventually with Peterman as backup) and MLB. You can build around those guys. Just need to get competent O-line and D-line play. The secondary is solid, RB's are solid, and WR's will be okay if the line can give anyone time to pass. The building blocks are there. We also have a OT in Dawkins. Another important piece. Just need to keep building. Will take another draft and FA period, but I think we get it done. We are not chasing "star" players who provide little game winning value like TO. We have gone after guys who come in and make the team better both in FA and the Draft (Poyer, Hyde, Allen, Edmunds, Phillips, Dawkins, White, etc.) I think pass rush will have to be fixed with roster cuts and next year in the draft and FA. Finally cap space.
  17. wow, awesome analysis. Hopefully he improves like Gilmore did for the Pats. I think he will. Perhaps he's also nursing the injury during preseason. I wouldn't even play him in this last preseason game if he is at all sore. Let him watch how the coverage works in a game from the sidelines--that can be helpful mentally, and allow him to physically recover.
  18. Fun, I'll give it a try: Thursday, September 6 8:20 PM Atlanta Philadelphia Sunday, September 9 1:00 PM Pittsburgh Cleveland Cincinnati Indianapolis Tennessee Miami San Francisco Minnesota Houston New England Tampa Bay New Orleans Jacksonville New York G Buffalo Baltimore (I'm a homer--no your not. We will win. ) Sunday, September 9 4 PM games Kansas City Los Angeles C Seattle Denver Washington Arizona Dallas Carolina Sunday, September 9 8:20 PM Chicago Green Bay Monday, September 10 7 PM then 10:20 New York J Detroit Los Angeles R Oakland
  19. I think a 1st next year and a 1st in 2020, after we win the SB. More like a second then
  20. says the guy with A. Maybin as his avatar !
  21. exactly. i'm sick of seeing Gronk get away with pushing-off. But the Pats***** getting away with penalties is nothing new. Also, Ramsey is crazy. He's trying to be Richard Sherman, but comes off like an idiot.
  22. 1 First, in 2020. we have to deal fast. Gruden also loves Josh Dobbs (Steelers backup). But I like your idea. Coleman and Lawson are too young for the old-players team Gruden is building. Lets send him Lorax (kind of over the hill) and AJ plus a 1st!
  23. A 3rd rounder to protect a season where you could make the SB sounds good to me. Even if Teddy is not resigned, a good trade. Good insurance for a Brees injury.
  24. Getting Allen and Edmunds will be huge. If we have young and cheap solid QB and MLB play, you can generally fill-in around those guys. Need to find competent (not even all-pro) OL help, pass rush help and this team is looking at 10+ wins a year. Find a Bell or AB, and your looking at a continual SB contender. Yeah, but luckly: (1) last years FA haul was impressive and landed us the best safety combo in the league; (2) Davis is a decent backup, and I think Phillips was a FA add; and finally (3) I think we can get out of most of the contracts. Hopefully cut or restructure Star, who looks bad, esp. like you said, at 10mill/year.
