I would agree, and that's why it was so frustrating: 2nd and 1 at your own 3, and we do two passes that weren't even close, and settle for a field goal. Again, Hackett's play calling is a riddle wrapped up in an enigma . . . I think his game planning and scheming are strong, but in the heat of a game, when snap decision have to be made, he loses it. Even the four passes to the end zone on the last drive … really???

Really? Look at the yards, defense. Two turnovers are winning the game for them. -

If Rex is still there, he wouldn't pass him up -
Seantrel fell because of his head and a history of problems, not becuase he didn't have the ability. He was not drafted because everyone had basically given up on him and his troubles. I am glad the Bills took the gamble, it has paid off. But yes, he was graded as at least a 2nd round talent, but last round head.

I doubt he is even active for the game

Its hard to imagine how the Bills could have whiffed so badly with their 2nd and 5th picks (7th doesn't count, everyone knew he was a 1 or 2 talent, that was a no-gamble pick—if it works, great, in not, no big deal). I suspect there is more of an issue of coaching philosophy here than talent (but, a bad coaching philosophy has led to bad talent). What is the one thing that all Bills line players have in common? Answer: They are all big, huge men. It seems, we have drafted and signed players who are big first, athletic second. Obviously, if you can get both, you win. But I suspect we are just too slow and un-atheltic to compete against the more nimble, quicker d-linemen of the NFL today. And that won't change with the current crop. I'm sure the hope was we could be a road-grading team, but it is also apparent we are not strong/powerful enough (physics lesson here: power comes from the combination of strength and quickness/athleticism) to do that either. I really think the Marrone philosophy of "bigger is better" needs to be challenged and changed.

He's a "profession" . . . hopefully he sticks around a few years, and EJ learns everything he can from him (mostly, how to throw the ball decisively and accurately).

Provided a lll key Free Agents are signed: 1) OL, 2) and then OL, 3) TE or QB, 4) RB, and 5) then best available players for defensive depth

I like the other Mississippi Qb better: the MSU, he looks like a better passer to me, and more athletic.

I'm of the opinion that you really can teach accuracy. Having coached baseball and softball for most of my adult life, I rarely see a college athlete who is able to make drastic improvements (some yes, but huge improvements = no). It is kind of a sixth sense thing, and as much as like EJ, I just don't see him getting that much better. Yes, there are mechanical issues that can be fixed, and they will help; but really, after fours years at top Division 1 school, two in the NFL, do we really think he has major mechanical flaws that have not been addressed? Maybe a tweak here or there, but as any experienced coach will tell you, with elite athletes, most of those are just mental things trying to help them build confidence. Which leads to this observation . . . The one exception I will say to what I write above, is if the accuracy problem comes from lack of confidence or hesitation—then it is a mental issue—which, with success can be over come. For him, I do hope that he can work through this.

I think Bon Jovi is trying to put together a group to buy them and move them to Toronto. -
Well, this is not totally true, they did try and they thought they had. Consider these things . . . First, they have the presupposition or assumption that its easy to make a tackle a guard. That has proven to not be the case. With this in mind, they drafted two tackles in the last draft, and for good measure, a former All-American guard. Moreover, the coaching staff (Marrone) declared that they like the young guy back-ups, mostly free agent signings and/or practice squad raids, they had coming back from last year. The implication was, at least one of them was ready to compete for a starting job. And, Chris Hairston, whom had been a starter at two tackle positions, was also returning. So, if you are viewing it all through the misguided perspective of the bad assumption stated in first point, then indeed, we have the talent, its just a matter of figuring out who goes where. Right? So, all that leads to three conclusions: The young "talent" that was leftover from last season, really wasn't that talented. It must not be that easy to move tackles to the guard position. Consider three pieces of evidence: 1) how bad Pears has been, 2) but neither Kojo, Hairston, or 3) anyone eles has been able to replace him. Or. maybe it is easy, but the before mentioned players / tackles (and leftovers) just aren't that good, whether playing tackle or guard; in which case, now we have a "personnel evaluation" problem. Or, maybe our line coaching, including the head coach whose area of expertise is line coaching, is just not very good. My conclusion, all of the above (1, 2, 3, & 4). Have we tried? Yes! But, when you start with bad assumptions in your experimentations, you usually never recover from that. Or, to quote a well placed NFL coach whom we are all familiar with: "don't confuse effort with results, obviously."

Thanks much, I think it confirms what we suspected and what we saw. However, I do have one issue: You based it on 17 pass plays, well, Orton was sacked four times, and scrambled at least one time for positive yards. Those are pass plays by design, and also pass plays that weren't executed. "Obviously" something broke down on those plays, they should be included in the analysis as well. -

Cut Mike Williams, what did he do? This game was a bit frustrating to watch until we finally got the Chandler touchdown late in the 3rd—then a started to relax. But, a win is a win. We didn't score as many points as we would like off the 6 turnovers (20), but on the good side, we did score 23 points on regular possession opportunities. I know the running game was, well not impressive, but give them credit for grinding out a couple of first downs at the end when all 15 people still in the stadium knew they were going to be running it. Boobie & BBrown ground out some tough yards and the opine had some push. It became obvious today that Pears just isn't very good, as Urbik went unnoticed, which is real progress at that position. I'm curious to see what his rating is in his first game back. And any chance that Cyril R (his natural position) or Kojo, or someone, are starting at RG after the bye week? Hard to tell if the defensive backfield played as well as the turnovers and score indicated, or was it just that the Jets were that bad (probably a bit of both, or what came first: chicken or the egg?)? Nonetheless, it was an outstanding day for them—their best game of the season. And here is my contribution to the lyrics for the day: You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want (Like easy points after turnovers) But if you try sometimes well you might find You get what you need (Like a WIN in NJ in late October) GO BILLS!!!
