McDermott "officially" calling D plays
billsfan89 replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hopefully, this results in a more aggressive and varied defense. I remember in 2020 or 2021 the defense was lapsing and McD took over from Frazier and the defense played much more aggressively. -
Calais Campbell *update beane said no visit scheduled

I wouldn’t hate Campbell as a one year rental seems like he might still have something left in the tank. But not going to lose sleep if the Bills don’t sign him either. -
Taylor Rapp Signing with Bills
billsfan89 replied to hellofellowbillsfans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great and cheap depth signing, also even if Poyer and Hyde make it through the season healthy it still seems like Rapp can be a big Nicole and flex around the defense a bit. -
I suspect the Bills defense will be taking a step back in 2023, not just because of Termaine but also the absence of Von until late in the season and some other factors. That being said assuming the Bills fill out the Dline and LB core with some combination of draft picks and lower level free agents I think the defense will still be a quality unit. If the defense wants to be top 5 then I think it’s going to require critical development from the younger Dline players, health from the safety combo, health generally speaking (that’s for any team obviously) and Tre to come back to or close to his pre injury form. Then hopefully this team can get Von back in December to tune up for the playoffs.

Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?
billsfan89 replied to NeverOutNick's topic in The Stadium Wall
To be fair to Dorsey he had an Oline that got outright dominated so it is hard to make any offense look good when the Oline can’t block. Even had Dorsey attempted to work around that better the results wouldn’t have been that much better. Give Dorsey a better Oline and one more significant weapon in the passing game to work with and then I think we will know if Dorsey can operate in the playoffs at the highest level. -

It’s a lot of risk to take on the full cap hit of a soon to be 31 year old WR who has finished the past two seasons hurt AND give up decent assets to do so. I assume AZ at least wants a 3rd round pick and a mid round pick in 2024 and to not eat any salary. The Bills are smart to not give up too much for D Hop unless AZ is willing to eat some of the cap charge to make it more palatable. If AZ wants a lot and won’t eat any salary than the Bills are better off looking elsewhere or using pick 27 to supplement the WR corps. -

Oliver has been an above-average to good player at times. He just never has had that break out to "Pro Bowl" caliber player we all wanted him to be. I expected some growing pains his rookie year and during the 2020 Covid season and then in 2021 he was out of position due to the poor NT play. I thought in 2022 he would finally have that breakout playing back at the 3 tech but he didn't get there. Still hope he can take that next step but it just hasn't happened. -
I think the odds of drafting a center in rounds 3-5 are pretty high. The Bills need an "heir apparent" for Mitch. Having a rookie slot in as depth and primed to take over in 2024 would be a prudent move.

Didn't they do something similar with Ike in 2021? They basically put him on IR after he ended the previous season with an injury. I think Doyle would like the chance to basically stay within the organization and get paid to rehab and then get a shot in 2024 to make the team and extend his career. I just don't see him doing all that much on the open market if he were to show up mediocre in camp coming off a serious injury. Just better off taking a "red shirt season".

I would rather go WR/OL than RB, I don't think Robinson is as elite as Barkley was coming out of college and I think Cook/Harris/Hines is a solid RB trio. The Bills would get far more mileage out of pick 27 by protecting Josh or getting him a young receiving option that can be there for 8 years or getting him a young protector at RT to improve the O-line. -

The details are going to make a big difference. But the cap hit won't be cheap long-term and Hopkins has been banged up the past two seasons and is going to be 31. I fear that if they go with Hopkins and pass on drafting a WR up high a lot of the offensive production is going to rest on an older more banged-up player. Yes any player even a rookie or younger player can get hurt but you do have to play the percentages. -
I assume Doyle will be a camp body and then placed on IR to "red shirt" I also assume Ike will be a camp body unless he shows out or there is an injury. Ideally, I would like to see a top 9 Oliine that looks like this. Dawkins-McGovern-Mitch-Bates-Brown Bench: Queese, Edwards, 2nd round rookie tackle, and a mid-round rookie center. I would then like to see a vet tackle or guard brought in to push Edwards and Queese for depth or allow the team to carry a 10th O-line player which I am not against.

The more I think about Hopkins the more I don't like the move. Giving up draft capital and taking on the cap hit longer term for a soon-to-be 31-year-old receiver who has been hurt the past two seasons. I get how elite he is but I would rather look elsewhere either on the trade market or via the draft. -
The depth of the O-line last year was pretty awful, Queese was the best backup on the o-line by a mile, and while I don't think Queese is a bad backup his being the best backup shows a strong lack of depth at the unit. Edwards and Queese being the backups are a nice place to start depth-wise. Ideally, I would like Beane to draft two O-line players one at RT and one at Center and sign another "kick the tires vet". Grabbing an heir apparent for Mitch and short-term depth at center can be achieved in rounds 3-5 while in round 2 grabbing a tackle to compete with Brown and add depth would be nice. That would give the Bills Edwards, Queese and two rookies off the bench add one more decent vet to go along with Ike as camp competition and I think you have a better deeper O-line unit.

I like the move it’s nice depth, not much else to say.

WR Allen Robinson available, Rams willing to eat salary
billsfan89 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I doubt the Rams would be willing to eat enough cap to make it worth it for the Bills. Wouldn’t hate the move but I would look to the draft for help at WR. -
You could do worse for depth but I still would like to see more done on the online for depth esp a vet guard.
-
Seems like the team hopes Harris being a backup to Cook or at least splitting carries with Cook will keep him healthy.
-
Love the move, modest upgrade from Singletary as the RB2 definitely brings power to the backfield.
-
Ideally I would like it if the team trades for a legit WR or drafts a WR at pick 27. Then at picks 59 and 91 they can go Oline. Add some defensive depth in the mid to late rounds, spend the premium picks solidifying the talent around Josh.
-
I like him as a Kumerow replacement. Sherfiled provides the same ST ability that Kumerow did but he has more upside as a receiver. Coming off a nice season in Miami despite not getting a ton of targets certainly not a dynamic player but as a WR6 who can play ST and step in as a complementary receiver if needed he has a nice role on the team.
-
I am think WR in round one likely able to get a RT in round 2 that can compete with Brown provide depth.
-
Nice depth, Tre and Elam should be the starters on the outside and Taron Johnson in the slot. Dane and Benford should be nice depth. Likely won't need to further address CB this off-season maybe a late-round pick to help the back-end depth. Safety on the other hand will likely need some youth behind Poyer and Hyde who are both long in the tooth.
-
Sad see Mac who was a great teammate and a nice gadget WR at times go but he had a bad year last year seeing a double digit drop in his catch percentage and having a not so low contract means he has to go. I do like that this means likely they will be targeting WR more via trade or the draft.
