The Bills are done, stick a fork in them
billsfan89 replied to HopefulFuture's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nah call me crazy but if the Bills can win the next two winnable games they have a chance. The next two weeks are going to determine the season. -
The Bills had the ball deep in Bengals territory early in the fourth quarter down 11 had Kincaid not fumbled they would have cut it down to 3-8 points with plenty of time left. Kincaid fumbled the Bills cut the lead to 6 with enough time to get one more possession. It was far closer than the Bucs were in my opinion.

Bills just gotta win the next two games get to 7-4 and hope for the best.
-
They went toe to toe away with a hot Bengals team away. It’s not a tragic outcome 5-4 one game behind in the division. It’s not a tragic outcome but very frustrating as had Kincaid not fumbled they would have changed the complexion of the game had they scored.
-
They should have won that challenge just insanely frustrating as with a timeout they could have had a chance to get the ball back with a stop
-
I am frustrated as had Kincaid not turned the ball over the would have had a chance to come back but they made the mistake that sent the team home
-
Just frustrating that Kincaid fumbled when the Bills had a margin for error that was so slim. The defense couldn’t get the ball back when they needed it. Overall I am upset but the Bills hung in with a hot team away not the worst outcome but also very disappointing that the Bills couldn’t get the offense going more consistent

I am always a defer person as no matter what you are always going to want the ball to start the second half. If you are up you want to start the half with a chance to build your lead. If you are down you want the chance to cut down the deficit to start the half.

Depth at LB was decent going into the season. Assuming they knew what they had in Bernard they had a pair of good starters in Bernard and Milano. Then they drafted D.Williams in round 3 to sure up depth and add a developmental piece, they also had resigned Klein and had Dodson a player with experience in the system. It wasn't tremendous depth but plugging in a 3rd round pick and a solid veteran to go along with a decent depth player in Dodson was actually a decent amount of depth.

Dawson Knox on his decision to get surgery
billsfan89 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think Knox coming back after the bye makes sense. Also if Kincaid and Shakir continue to play well Knox will come back as a 5th passing attack option which will be exactly where he needs to be. If I am Dorsey given Knox's blocking ability I would be dialing up plays for him as a fullback 5-10 snaps a game and try to have him play like Kyle Juszczyk in San Francisco and have some passing options out of the backfield. -
Week 9 thread - We’re on to Cincinnati
billsfan89 replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think largely the Bills from 2020 to 2022 were more of a finesse team. The Jets have a very tough front 7 that always gives the offense issues and the Bengals have a tough front 7 as well. This year with the additions at guard, Spencer Brown playing better and the bigger RB's the offense is better equipped to handle a "power" based attack. I also think Joseph at DT will hopefully make an impact toughening up the defensive line in the absence of Jones. -
The expanded PS and the lifting of maximum service time for six PS slots is one of the better things the NFL did (Along with changing the stupid IR rules). It allows all of these vets a chance to hang on and contribute where under the rules of no more than 2 accrued years of service time basically kept a lot of these players with possibly something left in the tank in the league. It also allowed these vets a chance to teach the players on their team while collecting a nice check and still keeping their chances of playing alive.

Douglas is also on a reasonable contract for next season which will be his age 30 season. That alleviates the draft compensation given up for him as it is one less possible position they will have to address immediately in 2024. Just overall a very solid week giving this team the shot in the arm it needs at key positions and with tough veteran players.

A commonality among the Bills recent signings
billsfan89 replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
The Bills added three players who have won Super Bowls and are tough veteran players. Joseph and Fournette were both contributors to their SB teams. Although Douglas was not a starter in the playoffs during his rookie year run he has been an established veteran with 3 playoff starts. Overall all the Bills not only replaced an offensive role player (Harris) and brought on defensive reinforcements at two positions where they were desperately needed (CB and DT) but they got guys with experience who may have something in the tank (esp Douglas and Fournette). The Bills got a whole lot tougher which will only help. -
Linval Joseph was in his prime (esp the Vikings years) a pretty good pass rusher. He was on the NFL top 100 in 2016 and 2018 (and probably deserved to be there in 2017) to show you how good he was in his Minnesota years. He has not been that type of penetrator pass rush-wise the past few years but in the past few seasons, he has been a quality space eater which is what we need in order to get value out of this signing.
-
Beane making a smart move to add a big run stuffer. Got to get tougher and bigger on the defensive line if you are playing undersized linebackers.
-
Douglas should be able to play some snaps Sunday. Maybe he can’t get the full concepts of the defense right away but he should be able to grasp 30-40% of the defense in a few days.
-
For Jones, I think the optimistic projections by Banged up Bills put Jones in an 8-10 week window to come back. Which would put him on track for a December return. A 12 week timetable is an “average” timetable for his injury which puts him on track for an early January return. Miliano has a very small outside chance of a mid to late January return. But that’s a very small outside chance given that his type of injury has not typically had that time table for recovery.
-
They look closer to the Bengals that ended the Bills season last year as they are on a 3 game winning streak. But I have a good feeling about the game. I think the Bills will come out strong on offense as I think they found the secret sauce with Kincaid and Shakir going strong along with the no huddle to simplify things. I also think adding Douglas gives the Bills defense a better chance against that strong WR trio. Overall I think the Bills come out strong in this one coming off the mini bye and all
-
Also you have to figure they will do some draft day trades either punting picks away for future selections or to move up in other rounds. 10 picks is good for this team but given that the Bills couldn’t roster more than 3 draft picks from 2023’s draft (they had to IR Shorter and then their back two picks were waived and picked up by the Texans) that volume will have to come down a bit to 6-7 selections at minimum.

Jets sign Saffold - Will be on active roster
billsfan89 replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Shows you the state of offensive line play in the league that Saffold gets a shot. -
Probably will continue to be inactive unless there is an injury. McD is the best secondary coach in the league in my opinion if anyone can turn an athlete like Elam around it would be McD. Elam hopefully will stick with it at practice and understand the system better and get a chance to rebound at some point.
-
I think that’s unlikely, but possible. It could be the Bills looked at the DT market and thought they could sign Suh or Linval Joseph who would be as good or better than any out on the trade market. Or they like how Jones is progressing from injury and think Ford and the current DT’s are good enough to bridge until then? I lean towards them sticking with what they have as that’s the MO of the front office.
-
It’s a really nice move, solidifying the CB position this and next season. Bills still keep the same volume of draft picks getting back a 5th. I also think that while I am disappointed they didn’t also try to get a true one tech DT it must mean they like the way D Jones has been recovering from injury and think they can get him back by December and maybe fully going by January. There also may not have had much out on the market they thought was better than Ford and Settle. The Bills needed reinforcement on defense at either CB, DT and LB they got one hell of a CB to help plug one of those holes.
