Glimore's option for next year was picked up so he isn't a free agent till after next year. Glenn won't be extended until after the season. The Bills need the whole season to look at him and I think Glenn is going to take his chances playing out the year and not taking a cheaper deal. I would love to see the Bills lock up Bradham asap. Get Bradham locked up because if you leave him out on the market he is going to get paid and be worth it. As far as Harvin they can restructure his deal to keep him on the roster. I think if Darby solidifies his play the Bills can cut McKelvin to free up money. Also Mario's deal can be tinkered with to free up more cap space. As far as Taylor I don't think the Bills think about extending him until the season is over. Let him give you a full year sample size before you make a bigger commitment. Also you can have it so his extension gets signed and doesn't kick in till 2017 mitigating the impact on the 2016 salary (By then you can dump/redo McCoy and some other big contracts). Overall I am just worried about the 2015 season. The Window to win in the NFL is small so the Bills need to just move forward with the roster they have now.

I had the Bills at 10-6 when the year started. I am always a little down on the Bills just the nature of being a fan for a long time. But I still stand by 10-6 and a wildcard still somewhat optimistic.

Bills Trade Cassel to Cowboys
billsfan89 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Any word on what they got for Cassell. I can't imagine they got a very good pick but a 5th rounder would be nice. -
With the Bills wait a year or two before getting a QB's jersey. McCoy is a decent choice he will probably be a really good player for 2-4 more years.
-
Fast start he totaled 6.5 all last year. Either he is making a huge improvement this year or he just had two really good games in a row.

Watkins: Tyrod Taylor must gain trust in the OL
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pats* defense isn't very good they got killed by the Steelers week 1 esp in terms of yardage and looking unable to stop the Steelers except for their kicker. They lost Wilfork and their starting corners during free agency and have suffered injuries at other positions. -
Rex playing Mind Games with Belicheck?
billsfan89 replied to ko12010's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think Rex is that far thinking nor would that even make much sense (You need to win games in the regular season first). It's tempting to think that Rex has some sort of long con going because of how poorly coached the defense was and considering how the Jets in 2010 lost 45-3 to the Pats* late in the year only to turn around and beat them 28-21 (With a TD scored with 1:17 in the game by the Pats*) in the playoffs. But while I do think that it's likely and at the very least possible that the Bills second effort against the Pats* will see a much better result defensively, I don't think the first poor effort was something intended. -
If the Eagles have a really crappy 6 or less win season then I can see Chip getting fired. The team was completely reworked in his image and if they fall on their face it all is on Chip Chipperson.

Watkins: Tyrod Taylor must gain trust in the OL
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taylor needs to get comfortable working in the pocket. Much like Russell Wilson, Taylor looks to get out of the pocket often even when the pressure might not be there. Taylor is very good when working outside the pocket and I do think Roman should work some waggle plays in like Seattle runs. However if a QB only works out of the pocket then that QB is very limited and limits the offense. The O-Line needs to protect better but Taylor also needs to avoid scrambling into pressure and get more comfortable working in the pocket. Taylor is still developing obviously, so I think he can improve but there needs to be a significant amount of improvement. -
Once Fitz is forced to win a game the Jets will see how limited he can be. But right now the Jets defense is rolling and their offense hasn't faced a good defense just yet.

Ryan obviously has no clue how to beat N.E.
billsfan89 replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Brady and the Pats* have a lot of teams numbers. There really isn't a team with Brady's number. If you look at the teams that have supposably had Brady's number (The Ravens, Broncos, and Giants) they have all gotten !@#$ed by Brady at times. -
If it's conclusive then fine the Bills.

Why not press coverage if not blitzing?

The Dennis Green strategy of they won't expect it because "No one can be that stupid". -
I remember listening to sports talk radio and they said that football message boards always follow this typical pattern. Monday after a loss- The team is terrible, the team will lose every game the rest of the way, what's the point of not forfeiting the rest of the season? Tuesday after a loss- The team is terrible and will likely lose every game but maybe they shouldn't forfeit all the games just yet after all maybe they can win 1 more game. Wednesday after a loss- The team is still terrible but some semblance of sanity starts to set in and context gets brought into the loss. Thursday to Gameday- The farther removed you get from the loss the more sense of balance and reason seeps in. The soreness from losing isn't as bad. After a win it's the same but in the opposite direction. Everything after a win is saying how the team is going to win a Super Bowl and that the league should just award them the trophy to save everyone some time. So the up and down nature of this board is just a severely emotional reaction to a win or loss either very positively or negatively.

Taylor looked over-matched and severely limited till the last few drives when Roman opened up the offense and McCoy got going a bit as well. Overall I liked how he snapped back throwing that TD to Sammy. You can claim that the first two TD drives were pseudo garbage time against a soft defense that was up 37-13. But at 37-25 with about 4 minutes left the Pats* were for sure trying to stop the Bills and close that game out. Not only did the Bills drive up for a TD to make it a 5 point game but they did it with two plays and a quick strike. That drive gave the Bills a legit shot to win that game. Hell they actually had the ball with some time left (1:36 not a whole lot of time but enough time) and down 8 points. So overall there were some positives in that late push even if it ended in undramatic fashion.

I'd Look to Trade Cassell to Cowboys
billsfan89 replied to BuffaloBillsMagic1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At best you would get a 5th or worse round pick. If the Cowboys were willing to trade a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick for a QB they could do a lot better than Matt Cassell. -
Draft busts happen even to the Best GM's but yeah in the context of everything that happened after that pick, it makes that pick look even worse. Also a lot of people thought the Eagles logic in trading McCoy for Kiko and not budging to Mathis and not resigning Maclin was that they would invest their cap resources into the defense. Well they signed Murray to the same deal McCoy was signed and took on a much larger contract than Foles with Bradford. So a lot of those cap savings went to simply rearranging pieces, they did sign Byron Maxwell and a few other pieces on defense but the results have been mixed so far.

Expect every defense to attack our offense like this...
billsfan89 replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
TT needs a lot of work but I was good to see Roman finally utilizing Shady properly at times. Opening up to 3 WR 1 TE sets and Shady in the backfield. Sammy, Harvin, Woods, and Clay are all targets that command a level of attention. Sammy looks to command a double team or the attention of the oppositions best corner. Harvin, Woods, and Clay can all make good use of lesser matchups or Sammy getting doubled. Shady needs to be in those sorts of sets often. Karlos should be used as a ground and pound between the tackles option in certain situations. Of course the O-line needs to play better but Taylor needs to get much more comfortable in the pocket, if not Roman needs to scheme the offense around that weakness a little more while slowly getting TT more comfortable in the pocket. The offense is a work in progress but if TT can progress and Roman can utilize the weapons and Shady then the Bills will put up points decently. -
Best Defenses Ever - Some Perspective
billsfan89 replied to Mark80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL season when looking back on it can be filled with one week aberrations. But all those are now in the context of great defenses guiding teams to Super Bowls. The Bills only have 2 weeks to measure their defense and so far it's a mixed bag. I think it can be a good thing to get smacked early. Rex getting humbled early can be a good thing as you know this is going to stick with him and keep him and the team in general from buying into their own hype. I will say this the Fins game is a must win if the team is a legit playoff team. Quality Division opponent at home and both teams in a pseudo must win situation. Bills coming off that horrendous loss, Fins coming off a horrible loss to the Jags at home desperately need to win, Bills need to win coming in at 1-1, playoff teams pile up wins early and often esp in their division. Bills really can't afford to go 0-2 in the division. -
Kyle Williams: Bills lack of composure "inexcusable"
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully it's a good wake-up call for the defense to not buy into their own hype. Also maybe Rex can learn and gear up and coach better the rest of the way. It can be a good long term thing for a team to get smacked early. Let's be honest when a lot of us looked at the Bills schedule weeks 1 and 2 and saw the Colts and the Pats* a split of those games would have been more than acceptable. If they come in and smack the Fins around then the season starts to snap into being. -
Ran DeSean Jackson out of town, didn't want to pay Jeremy Maclin, and ousted LeSean McCoy. To replace McCoy they had to give a big contract to DeMarco Murray. To replace Jackson and Maclin they had to spend a 1st round pick on Nelson Agholor and a high 2nd round pick on Jordan Matthews. They also got rid of Evan Mathis and their offensive line has looked a lot worse and that's got to be a contributing factor. So to get rid of Jackson, Maclin, McCoy, and Mathis all to save money or because they didn't fit Chip's system they have had to us valuable draft resources in a 1st and 2nd round pick in back to back years, hand a huge contract to DeMarco Murray (On par to what the Bills gave Shady), and sacrifice the quality of the offensive line. Throw in that dumb Bradford trade which cost them an additional second round pick and money along with Foles and Chip's track record as a GM is horrendous. Chip really !@#$ed up this off-season, he showed signs in the past of carelessly getting rid of talent but it looked to be more shrewd the first couple of years. Getting rid of Jackson and replacing him with Jordan Matthews was an good move, Matthews is a good talent and much cheaper than Jackson and with Maclin waiting in the wings coming off an injury there was talent coming in to supplant the talent coming out. But not resigning Maclin, trading Shady just to sign Murry for the same deal, letting Evan Mathis go, and trading both Foles and a 2nd round pick for the much more expensive and injury prone Bradford (Who may or may not even be as good) were all horrendous and arrogant moves.

Shady looked like his old self and Rex/Roman used him a lot better opening up 3 WR 1 TE sets to get him into space. I think he will turn in a solid season for the Bills. The Pats* lined up to stop the run early and make Tyrod beat him. But once Tyrod got going and the defense had to open up Shady got going and it was part of what sparked the offenses late comeback effort.
