The Fins are spending their warchest huge and they still have 6 premium draft selections to go. But unless they have a coherent plan at QB I don't see exactly where their plan works beyond getting the Fins through 7 or 8 wins.

Not true at all esp with how McBeane likes to trade up and finds quality players. However mid-round picks (4th and 5th round) have solid value. Lots of quality role players and starters are found in those rounds. The Texans made a bad trade because their coach is also the GM and didn't get along with Hopkins. Other teams weren't that stupid. The Vikings weren't giving up Diggs for peanuts because the Texans were stupid.

They paid retail for a player they needed. A for need, C for price, B for player quality overall a B. This is still a savvy move Diggs is just 27 in August, is on a contract that is good and easy to get out of after 2021. So he is good in terms of flexibility and filling a need with a proven player in his prime. The cost however was high. I would have much preferred a 2nd and a 4th for him but overall the cost wasn't tragic.

Risky yes? As risky as Watkins? No ***** way. Watkins was a 1st round pick plus a 4th to trade up 5 spots for a WR who never played a down in the NFL. Diggs is trading pick 22 for a prime WR without an injury history on a big but more than fair contract that is easy to get out of after two seasons. There is risk because you could have just drafted a WR at pick 22 and taken that chance. But I say who dares wins and you go for the proven WR while you have a window to win.

Nice little signing by McD, replaces Lorax at OLB and fills a potential hole at OLB/MLB. Love what they are doing this off-season for the most part. -
Tom Brady to TB - 2Yrs, $50M all gtd no trade clause

I hope you are right. I actually think that they will try and trade away for as many 2021 picks as possible in the upcoming draft. Number they always seem to try and do that no matter what the next years draft looks like but two they might want at least two additional premium draft choices if they do decide to go for a big time draft piece. BUT I wouldn't put it past Billy B to punt a season away and trade away some key players for draft picks. If they could get a 1st plus other picks for Gilmore I wouldn't put it past them. However in the end I think you are right in that they will attempt to be competitive on some level. -
That's true Taron is a bit banged up, but I don't see this team going after both Reader and Harris due to not wanting to be locked into too many big deals. They have Addison and Diggs two massive/significant deals locked in and made several mid-level acquisitions too. I think that they will try and go for the depth and specialist building that rounds out the roster as opposed to adding more big time contracts. I wouldn't mind however them adding Reader or Harris (esp Reader) as I think one more starting piece to the defense just puts this team in an insanely good position entering the draft.

Jordan Phillips signs with Arizona

They are stuck in a tough division. Seattle is always tough, San Francisco might take a step down but they will be competitive and The Rams have talent too. That's one of those divisions where even if one team is dramatically below expectations there will still be 3 teams with 8 or more wins. I do like their moves, they got Hopkins on a steal and Phillips helps their D-line. -

Evans is a big body who can high point anything. Goodwin works well all over the place, OJ Howard is a reclamation project worth considering. Their O-line is actually solid and their defense more than decent. If they sign Brady and draft a couple of pieces around him I don't see why they wouldn't be better than the Chargers who have less dynamic pieces. That being said I don't think that the Chargers are a bad fit at all, let's not pretend that Allen, Henry, Eckler, and Williams aren't a nice set of skill players. -
Reader would be the final piece to an excellent off-season but I think at 10 plus million it just seems unlikely they pay up that much for a 4th DT. Chris Harris is a good player but not sure he offers what the Bills need (he is more of a slot guy and I think T.Johnson works well out of the slot.) I think the major moves from the Bills are done, I think they move onto mid-level signings and depth signings. I think they add Von Rotten to the O-line depth and Jordan Howard to the RB stable. Then they go to the draft to address any remaining needs via round 2 and 3.

Tom Brady to TB - 2Yrs, $50M all gtd no trade clause

The league hopes LA will drive revenue big time. It isn't rocket science why the league wants big markets to have success. I think from a football perspective that Tampa would be an excellent fit but that LA market just presents better opportunities for him and it isn't a bad football fit if they can boost that O-line and get that defense to be decent. -

I wish Brady stayed with the Pats, just so that they would be good enough to not get a high draft pick. I fear the Pats trying to tank for Lawrence. -
Bills sign LB Tyler Matakevich on a 2 year deal $9m

The ST unit while not bad last season was far from an elite unit. And I am not talking about the shaky punting and Haush not having much leg beyond 50. The coverage units were just OK. I think adding another ST ace to the coverage and kick units is a proactive decision that helps the ST take another step up. If only they could find a punter. -
Although the Bills paid retail so to speak for Diggs he is worth it in my opinion. First off he is on a very good deal for his level of production. And his deal is relatively easy to get out of after 2021. Secondly as much as I love McBeane with draft picks it wasn't like the team didn't have extra mid round picks to spare and pick 22 would have most likely been spent on a WR anyway. Why risk Josh Allen's development and the team's window to win on a rookie? When Diggs is a proven vet who immediately sets the WR1 tone for the next 3-4 seasons considering he turns 27 this season. Is it a risky move for Buffalo? Yes, but this is the season to take some risks. Last off-season the team was very prudent in making not too many splashy acquisitions in order to build a deep quality team. Well now that the foundation has been put in place you need to add those final few pieces.

Bills Sign Mario Addison on a 3 year deal
billsfan89 replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a very good signing. Addressing the pass rush with the loss of Shaq and a possible need there anyway. The deal unlike Shaq's deal is very easy to get out of after 1 season and is paying Addison for the production he is likely to do as opposed to speculating a significant improvement in production to justify a large free agency contract. -
I really wish the Bills traded pick 22 for him. Immediately would provide that stable WR1 for the next 3-4 seasons. Would completely change the dynamics of the offense and be worth a 18-20 million dollar contract.

Reminds me of the Jets signing Mosley, Bell, and a couple of other high profile free agents only to miss on their O-line acquisitions and not have enough depth. I like what Miami is doing so far but they have a lot of work to do in order to build a real team.
-
Miami is spending big but they are starting from a big deficit talent wise. I also think that they could be very top heavy like the Jets but lack depth and good drafting needed to compete.

Big signings worked so well for the Jets

Their O-line still needs some help despite signing Conklin and they need a few pieces on defense. However on paper if they can add at least one more O-line starter and another 1-2 pieces on defense they look to be in a good place on paper. But then again it is the Browns and this is all on paper.
