Ouch! What kind of genius is that Dykstra? Worst financial decision maker ever. Not only did he bankrupt himself, he took others down with him and he was a millionaire many times over. He could have lived on easy street for the rest of his days but he thought himself such a financial genius that he gambled and lost everything.

Losman Looking Good in Seattle
VanCity replied to Gabe Northern's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know why anyone expects JP or Charlie Whitehead (sp) to start. Hasselbeck is the Hawks QB until he gets injured for the 428th time in his career. Whitehurst was a horrible pick-up and Losman did show he could play last year, albeit in the UFL. I would say that JP will be second in the depth chart behind Hasselbeck. -
I was thinking about this while looking at the video from OTA's yesterday. I haven't heard much, if anything, about Carrington. Based on highlight reels (I know, they are called "Highlight" reels for a reason) from his college career and his stat lines the guy looks like he could be a real impact player in the next few seasons. I want to know what he has been showing in the OTA's. He is in a bit of a dogfight at DE, but I'd hope to see him in the mix with the opportunity to be in the SL at some point this season.

If Thigpen is cut, Gailey will pick him up
VanCity replied to Chuckknox's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with the majority of your post. I am, however, a little more optimistic regarding what Chan can do with our current crop. I'd prefer not to see Thigpen on our roster, following the same thought-line that you are. He is a known commodity, but one that really won't pay out in the end. I don't know which of our current QB's fit the mold of the offense that Chan is implementing best, but I am looking forward to seeing who sits behind center on opening day. I think that many posters are jumping the gun in assuming a lack of growth from Brohm and/or Trent. I know that TE has been given opportunities, but we all have seen the ineptitude of the previous coaching regime in providing a consistently strong offensive scheme. I will hold out hope until opening day, when the product on the field can and will be effectively evaluated. -
LT Marcus McNeill doesn't sign RFA tender
VanCity replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McNeill offers way more value than Flozell. Flozell was a very strong tackle, but he is over-the-hill at this point and that is why he is still on the open market. If McNeill was a UFA, he would have been a very early signee. -
New QB possibility? Free agent to be
VanCity replied to BoozeCruise's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ahhh...yes, the great State of Cleveland...... I get where you are going though. Burger Queen is a decent QB that truly doesn't seem to have gotten a fair shake in Cleveland and now, if true, in Denver. That being said, his HC's have been Mangina (yes, it's intentional) and now" the dick in Denver". They aren't at the top of my "capable list" as head coaches go. -
Josh Reed signs with the Chargers
VanCity replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't describe myself as "glad". He was neither the best nor the worst we have seen in recent years. He made a good number of strong plays in short yardage situations and his hands were, generally, solid. That being said, he wasn't getting any better and that's what we need at this point. Stay classy San Diego... -
The real reason Pete Carroll left USC
VanCity replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Although I grew up cheering for Notre Dame, it was mainly due to them being the team my uncles were cheering for. I really have never understood all of the hype behind them though. They are constantly starting the year in the top 25 and ending the year in turmoil. They haven't exactly produced a line-up of all-pros in the last 10 years. Their coaches are under immense pressure to win and recruiting, while much heralded, has come up with consecutive decades of mediocrity. It must be the Catholics supporting the major Catholic university in the country. I guess that's where this. Polish Catholic kid got into it. My point is that the Irish are unbelievably over-hyped and I'm just a cog in the machine. -
The real reason Pete Carroll left USC
VanCity replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While true, I wish I could take a raincheck for $33million. I have the "priviledge" to enjoy cheering for two teams in the NFL. The first and foremost is the Bills. The second, due to proximity and access to games, is the Seahawks. When Carroll was announced, many Hawks fans were ecstatic. I was not one of them. The choke sign incident and the way in which he was able to recruit the top recruits on an annual basis always led me to believe that he is underhanded and does not believe that the rules apply to him. In Seattle, he is in for a rude awakening. One of the major issues is that, on paper, the Hawks have improved as much as any team in the NFL this offseason on the field. The issue will be the jackass roaming the sidelines. -
Obviously not good news, but not all that unexpected. The one thing that is unexpected is the way that he has worded this. Does it mean he won't be back this season and might reconsider next year? Does he want to play elsewhere? Is he truly serious about returning for the latter half of the season? Is this cryptic? Schobel has generally been regarded as a straight shooter, but this doesn't ring true in this case.

All completely valid points. Being a "BillsVet" has, deservingly, jaded you more than a little bit. That being said, all of the factors you mentioned are the reason that numerous posters are more optimistic. When you have experienced failure in so many aspects of the game, your best chance is to revisit what you have done and make changes for the future. The QB's aside, this is what they have done. All we can do is hope that what the FO has done has put the team in a position to improve for the future. A one season turn-around is, as you have stated, seemingly impossible. One can always hope for horseshoes and rainbows though......

Wow, this is a good battle here Sisyphean and Doc. You are both incredibly opinionated posters and each have valid points. I like it. This is what makes a forum worth visiting. Anyways, I don't know the writer Steve B. for any of his past work, but it seems like he is quite optimistic about the Bills this year. He has some valid points regarding our 4th quarter meltdowns and their possible elimination by increased offensive production and a better defense versus the run. His thoughts regarding our spot in the wildcard race, though encouraging, might be a little premature.

That was the funniest quote in that article. When a team has a record (Guinness worthy I might add) of 3 and 15, one might assume that the playoffs were not achieved. Chalk it up to second rate journalism covering a second rate league. The CFL game is actually quite entertaining, the issue I have always had is the lack of energy at the games. Once you go to an NFL game, going to a CFL game is a snore-fest. It's a point proven by the "Bills in Toronto" experiment. It's the same game, but it somehow becomes pointless when most of the fans are clueless, there are no tailgate parties and the crowd acts like they are at the library.

Citing an inability to dedicate himself, our favorite clipboard carrier Gibran Hamdan has retired from football. His two days of camp in the CFL were a wee bit much to take. Can't say I blame him. Competing with the majestic Cleo Lemon and the awe-inspiring Ken Dorsey would put even the best Manning in a precarious position.... http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=323548

Nix/Gailey killed Lynch to the 'hawks for a 3rd
VanCity replied to a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Although I am just a lowly Practice Squad member, I understand the purpose of being an OP. When you create a topic, do a little research on whether it is an existing topic. Also, when those in the know refute your story or what you pulled out of the article being referred to, don't become a such a child and try and backtrack. It's not a good look. All this being said, there is no mention of the aforementioned 3rd rounder. Also, if there was a "pre-draft trade" being discussed, logic would infer that it was a trade involving a pick from the 2010 draft. You know, the one the trade was being discussed during... -
Quite simply put....what he said.

Go easy on yourself, there is no reason to get upset about such a minor spelling error. Your intentions were good and you made a slip. No biggie. It's not like you made the classic "could of" instead of "could have" slip. That is unforgivable. That being said, LenDale looked like a coup to most until the drug issue was revealed. It must have been unexpected, as they cut ties quickly. This says, to me, that they never would have made the move for him had they known what was in store. I am in the sad place of having a West Coast team due to proximity. This is Pete Carroll's team for better or for worse and the USC pedigree that LenDale carried in addition to being a low-mileage starting-quality RB made for a logical fit on paper. Sometimes, paper is better left on the table.

TO drama is stale. Seems like every team has announced their disinterest in him. UFL may be his only choice in 10-11. I have grown weary. Let's make a pact on TBD to ignore all the conjecture regarding TO and stop these meaningless posts.

Recent cutting of players

If you are a pessimist, try not to be a Bills fan. It will only gray your hair faster.... -
Recent cutting of players
VanCity replied to Glass To The Arson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am always intrigued by the pre-camp cuts. These guys must have either been a) unprepared or b) not as good as the others that were in rookie camp. I'm going to vote for b because that insinuates that we have improved. Gotta go with that. -
Huh? I'd take Vince over any of our QB's in an instant. He has turned it around based on last season. The Titans and Jeff Fisher (one of the top 5 coachies in the league IMHO) sure seem to think so. As for JeMarcus, no chance. You've got a perfect example of an Al Davis pick there. Al Davis logic: "He has a big arm, he must be a great QB". That's like what my friend used to call Donkey Logic: a donkey has four legs, a chair has four legs. A chair must be a donkey!

This post definitely hit home. These are the same things that we have heard and said many times over the past decade plus. All this being said, Artie has a good point. It is the role of a true fan to believe. Without belief, why watch them and cheer them on? Don't you have better things to do on a Sunday afternoon than watch and cheer on a team that you fully expect to lose? Faith is an important part of my definition of being a fan. It is the one thing that has held me together while watching this team the past 25 years.

As difficult as it is to judge talent based on highlight films, this one is impressive. The scouting report above talks about motor and burst issues. Neither of those is shown in this video. Again, a highlight video, but one that makes you think we might have got a sleeper in Coleman.

He's a Rex Ryan product who will want to return to being on a Rex Ryan team. I'll be amazed if he doesn't end up on the Jets.
