NFL may push touchbacks up to the 35 yard line
Mr. WEO replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
People have been predicting the collapse of the NFL for 20 years. Their business model of bringing it to a wider audience has been wildly and ever more successful, proving all the doubters wrong over and over... NASCAR's base appeal was always, let's say, VERY regional. The wider public watched for a hot minute, got bored (predictably) and walked away. The NFL is running away with all the viewers while the NBA and MLB inch towards the NHL in insignificance. -
Fandemonium runs deep.....

you wouldn't watch?

NFL may push touchbacks up to the 35 yard line

NASCAR is dead. NFL just keeps growing. Again, this is why Goodell is paid so much money by Terry and Jerry et al. Anyway, Goodell doesn't sit on the Competition Committee, but McD does. Message him that he is ruining the game... Scoring peaked in 2020, dropping again since -
Why be sickened when you can still watch from your couch? I would go to this game in a heartbeat. Beats going to Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Cincy for a game.

The new tracking would pick up viewers on the streaming services--the traditional network numbers would already be accurately known. Unless Netflix/Hulu/Prime buy up all the contracts (unlikely), then there is still Disney (ABC/ESPN) and Comcast (NBC/Peacock). Much can happen in the next 3-4 years.
-
who would trade for that

you think Pegula would use a free billion dollars to spend on the guarantees/bonuses on player contracts? The total broadcast revenues will go up, but the traditional networks contract costs may not be much higher, as shown above, many are watching on the streamers.

Drafting DBs in the first couple of rounds has yielded Elam and Bishop.

An even older D-Hop left an awful QB situation in Tenn, strolled into KC in-season and did just fine with Mahomes. If Cooper can show up in Cleveland (there's no amount of preseason to get adequately acquainted with a terrible QB room) and put up 1150, a journeyman vet (who's seen every Offense and Defense) should be able to spend a bit of time with a far superior QB and put up decent numbers---it's not like there's some other alpha WR on the roster. He wasn't injured when he got here, yet he was already in decline in 2024 Cleveland. He had a wrist injury and missed weeks 9 and 10. After that, his wrist wasn't preventing him from getting open...yet we saw many posts describing all the "attention" he was getting and the coverage he was drawing off other receivers---just wild stuff for a guy who was present for less than 50% of the snaps in games he was available for. This guy cost a 3rd round. In the past 3 seasons, he has caught only 56% of his passes and has a whopping 31 drops (9%). No more like this. It hasn't worked for Beane since he got here. Bills need to figure out how to scout college WRs...

Stafford given permission to seek trade
Mr. WEO replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall
Stafford is solidly better than Rodgers for some time now. AR is anything but a "win now" proposition. The scheme in GB was good for Rodgers for a while (2010 was million years ago) and it got better as soon. as he left. If LA's idea of hard ball is dangling a broken down, bitter, sullen and apathetic Aaron Rodgers in front of Stafford's demands for a new contract....I bet Stafford's people's response is "ok..." -

This may be true, but Snead is the macher for the Rams. The shine is coming off of boy geniuses in LA.... -

Seems like a job you give to someone's nephew. I would think a HC and GM would be specs/develop profiles for their needs that they then just impart to the scouts. This seems like a bizarre flex for the Jags to announce to their hapless fans. -
You should put all your money on Cooks---he is exactly the kind of over the hill burnt out journeyman (the most traded player in NFL history!) WR Beane absolutely LOVES to sign! Think Emmanuel Sanders or Jameson Crowder or Brown 2.0. Bills already had those this year with Cooper and Samuel. Higgins would be the best WR on the roster immediately. "Horrid situation in Dallas" hasn't prevented Lamb from amassing 3000 yards (and ALL of the Defensive attention) in the time Cook was there. Cook is falling apart. It's hard to claim people are giving up "too soon" on another over 30 journeyman like Cooper. "Brand new team"? New to the Browns in 2022, he had over 1100. Total chaos at QB in 2023..yet he still caught for 1250. So you're saying that Cooper shouldn't struggle on a new team that saw Watson/Flacco/PJ Walker/Thompson-Robinson/Driskel throwing him the ball...but it would be natural for him to struggle with the NFL MVP throwing him the ball? He was a dud this year. Why sign another guy like this? Agreed the Defense is the weakest unit on this team.
