  1. Your from SD. How is a plane supposed to land there if this was in effect? (There's a parking ramp just before the runway that looks like you are about 50 feet above it).
  2. Also, when its >100 degrees every day for several weeks in July, everyone stays in. Chef Jim lives right in SF where it can be 30-40 degrees cooler than where I do (30 miles away).
  3. I use a handheld GPS for geocaching. Magellans were about the equal of Garmins, but I have heard they stink now. The car ones (Nuvi, etc) are not that good for hiking and geocaching, but are fine for car navigation. Garmin is pretty good with fixing them. I have heard of people sending them in over a year after the warranty had expired and getting a refurbished unit in return. The handheld ones are sturdy. I have a a 6.5 year old Venture. The printing on it worn off and some of the rubber is worn off. Last week I dropped it on a stump and cracked the screen, but it still works.
  4. It was 70 yesterday and 73 today up in NorCal.
  5. Until you feel your first quake nearby.
  6. Yes it is. Flu viruses have RNA instead of DNA as their genetic material. There are no proofreading enzymes for RNA synthesis, so there are are a lot more mutations occurring. The strain determination is based on the proteins the virus incorporated into its coat. The social health practices could limit the spread of the virus. We now have vaccines which weren't around in 1918. That's why the push to get immunized occurred. On the other hand, the ability to travel halfway around the earth in a day could help spread it much quicker today.
  7. Here's a picture from the Canadian Women's Biathlon Team Calendar! http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/biathlete3.jpg
  8. The 1918 flu that killed MILLIONS was a H1N1 strain. The first wave wasn't bad, but it mutated and the second wave was the bad one. Whenever the H1N1 strain appears, there is the chance that it could mutate to be just as virulent. We were lucky that it didn't. As with the 1918 flu, this H1N1 killed proportionately more young people than other strains.
  9. Partly sunny and 67 today. Warmest it has been in several months!
  10. Hab SoSlI' Quch!
  11. Who's bringing the popcorn?
  12. Where the hell did the idea that I am a GOP "lap dog" come up? I thought Bush was too liberal on domestic issues. I didn't like Mc Cain, loved Palin but they were light years better than what we have now. I haven't been posting much recently, been busy.
  13. I worked at one about 30-35 years ago.The coffee then was 40 cents a cup. The manager told us you would have to drink 14 cups for them to lose $- in other words, the company cost was 3 cents a cup. Probably the same margin on it now. The other big money maker was toast.
  14. He was on TV the morning before he was shot bitching about how the cops are treating his kid. From the local news, it looks like it may be a domestic problem. The father and his girlfriend were arguing and the cops called. They responded and it cooled down. 30-60 minutes later, they get a call on the shooting. Witnesses say a black guy was running away from the site. Seems the girlfriend was cheating on either on the father or the shooter. Then about 11 PM last night, there was another shooting in the same area.
  15. People forget he was an un-indicted co-conspirator in the Abscam scandal back in 1980.
  16. Sorry he died. He should have quit a while ago.
  17. Just emphasize your science education. They want easily swayed dummies on the jury if they can get them.
  18. In the same city Wednesday: Ice Cream Truck Driver Shot
  19. Isn't Planet Hollywood the Aladdin?
  20. Looks like all the paste eaters are out today.
  21. It's the same sort of mentality that makes people think that the Kennedy assassination was a conspiracy too. They can't believe it happened, so they have to invent these enormous conspiracies in their minds. I remember seeing Oswald shot live on TV and my father saying "Holy S***!"over and over (I was 6 at the time). It was the the same reaction I had to watching the second plane hit.
  22. Vallejo is the North SF Bay area (somewhat local for me- where the Mare Island Naval Shipyard is) The city went bankrupt in 2008. It is true that most of the students at that school are black. This is right down the street from the high school. The worker was driving a backhoe and someone threw something at him. He came back and several students jumped him. Then about 40 people showed up and started beating him. They broke his jaw, skull, and he lost sevral teeth. they also robbed him. The worker in the station which had the cameras said they call the cops almost every day and they only show up about 30% of the time.
  23. Hey a-hole. DC Tom lived near the Pentagon then and saw the plane fly over his house.
  24. The Beatles became a studio band because of all the teenage girls orgasming at their concerts. No one could hear them.
  25. And if this was the Bush Administration or a staffer on any Republican's staff. The press would have him fired already and stringing him up from the nearest tree. Rahm Emanuel is psychotic.
