The 53 Year Anniversary Bills Wall of Shame Awards
vincec replied to Meathead's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How about Terrance Pennington or Marcus Spriggs at OT? or Billy Conaty at Center? or Bennie Anderson at G? This game is easy. -
Yes. It won't be as easy when the majority of passes stop coming out in 2 seconds and running plays aren't primarily against nickel defenses. And if Fitz goes then they also lose his ability to read blitzes and adjust the blocking scheme/play to compensate, which is the best thing that he does, IMO. I think that there is some talent on the OL but I don't expect them to look as good as they have the last couple of seasons.

Beerball is getting out of the import business....
vincec replied to Just Jack's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. The best way for the average american to fight terrorism is not through shared sacrifice. It's by spending money like a drunk to keep our debt ridden, consumer spending driven economy humming along. Wait, that didn't work out so well. -
He did well in Gailey's OL friendly system but got exposed when he went to Philly. I hope that the same thing doesn't happen to some of the other linemen with the change in regime here in Buffalo.

I came away with three thoughts after reading the article: 1. We were mislead as to how close Troup was to coming back last year. 2. His goal is to weigh between 315 and 320? That's smaller than Marcel Dareus. No way that he can play NT at that weight, not even considering that his back problems may hinder his ability to take on double teams. He talks about playing from "sideline to sideline", but the Bills already have 4 "sideline to sideline" DTs. They need a space eater. 3. No one knows if Troup will be able to come back next season or if he will be any good if he does He hasn't played for two years and he was just a rookie then so at this point it's pie in the sky.
-
Why was he cut? I thought he was really solid last year. Salary cap?
-
weak? 19 carries, 110 yards, 5.8 ypc, 1 TD Maybe if they gave him the ball a few times when it was 1st and goal in the 4th Q this game would've ended differently.

It's not who has the best team, it's the team that plays best on Sunday. The 49ers didn't even play a full half of their best football let alone a whole game. They have no one to blame but themselves.
-
This sounds like the defense that the Bills should play- M Williams, Carrington, Dareus, K Williams and Anderson/Kelsay as the 5 DL. Could always drop Williams or Anderson/Kelsay into coverage as occasional surprise moves to turn it into a 4-3 or 3-4 look.
-
Draft a MLB and play a 4-3 defense similar to the Giants or the Rams. That would be the best fit for the current personnel going forward, IMO. Or they could blow it up and start over again, which sounds more like the Bills.

This argument does hold some weight with me but I think the reaction to ban all PEDs across the board is over the top. And if this is the basis of the rule then why allow injections of pain killers to get hurt players back on the field? It's certainly not good for them long term to be aggravating injuries and turning them into potentially chronic conditions after they retire. And there's a lot of pressure to take them too and "not let your team down".
-
If these "smart drugs" have acceptable side effects then what would be the problem with people taking them? Since everyone can't do it that means that no one can?
-
Disregarding the obvious math error for a second, if the Bills had to put 6 LBs on the field at one time who would they be??? They don't even have 1 legitimate starting NFL LB let alone 6. How about Pettine follow the age old coaching rule of building your schemes around your players and focus on ways to take advantage of the few good players you have. On the Bills that would be the DL. They'd be better off running a 5-1-5 Nickel than a 1-5-5.

Stevie Johnson doesn't workout in the offseason
vincec replied to ET1062's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Except that he said he believed that by following the book his performance would have probably improved. However that didn't really matter to him. I guess he fits right in with a team that never has a winning record or makes the playoffs. -
http://www.grantland...sk-ped-question The one question that I have that he never really asks is "Does anyone really care if these guys are on PEDs?" I think that many people assume that it's basically a level playing field with most everyone taking drugs who wants to and that "performance enhancing drugs" have been around since stimulants and pain killers were used in the 60s or even earlier. The only people who really follow the rules against PEDs are the honest people and that allows the dishonest people to dominate. And comparing records across eras is impossible for many reasons besides the improvements in PEDs, including the improvements in other training techniques, strategies, overall health, funding, etc.

"Thurman's sports bar" is not on the subject line. Read the "automatic response". The subject line is "IT'S ON LIKE A MOFO!!!" which could mean anything. Now I get it and know exactly what your talking about and even think it's a funny and ironic post, but that has never stopped the "automatic response" before. Just want you to know what it feels like on the other end.

Donte Whitner 7th Worst Safety
vincec replied to Homey D. Clown's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure anyone who watched the Bills defense play this season would want Wilson playing over Whitner. Wilson was terrible. He never made a big play that I can remember. He couldn't cover TEs or running backs over the middle. He was basically a massively undersized linebacker making tackles downfield. Forget what the stats say. To paraphrase Groucho Marx: "Who are you going to believe, the stats or your own eyes?" -
[This is an automated response] As a courtesy to the other board members, please use more descriptive subject lines. The topic starter can edit the subject line to make it more appropriate. Thank you.

Rob Johnson Interview With Rich Gaenzler
vincec replied to Wayne Fontes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rob Johnson. Has he figured out which way the offense is supposed to go yet? All I remember when he was at QB was one sack after another. If all it took to play QB in the NFL was the ability to throw a ball through a tire then Rob Johnson would be in the HOF. Unfortunately, it takes a lot more than that. -
Dick Jauron's on the Rams' wish-list
vincec replied to The Helmet of's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a DC Jauron is average. His team's defenses have mostly been in the middle of the NFL pack. However, one redeeming quality that STL might have been looking at is that his defenses were generally above average against the pass, including top 10 pass defenses in his last year in Buffalo and one of his two years in Cleveland. This is a passing league and becoming more so every year. -
He is a shadow of his former self. Frankly, given that he's a HOF type player, I'm stunned and how bad he has looked over the past couple of seasons. He really needs to retire.

Gregg Williams to Tennessee Titans Pending Reinstatement
vincec replied to Numark's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So "indefinite" means 1 year? Why didn't the NFL just say so when they handed out the punishment in the first place? Were they concerned that a 1 year suspension wouldn't sound severe enough so they called it "indefinite" and then lifted it in one year? I think that the NFL was more concerned with appearing tough than being tough on this. Player suspensions- reduced/overturned. Where any games even missed? Peyton punishment- 1 year, then signs massive contract extension to make up for any lost revenue. Williams punishment- "indefinite suspension", terminated at 1 year and then immediately signs with another team. Really cracked down hard on this.
