So lose Levitre, Barnett, Jones and Nelson. Sign Moore, Dansby, Heywood-Bey and Walter. Seems a bit like musical chairs to me. I don't see the improvement.
-
What are you talking about? Starters gone: Fitzpatrick, Levitre, Barnett, Wilson, Jones & Nelson (if you figure the 3 WR formation as the Bills base). Add to that the fact that Chandler is hurt and may miss the early part of the season. Maybe the Bills can improve on these but the improvements are not on the roster right now. I see lots of posts talking about drafting replacements but you can't draft a starting QB, WR, OG, ILB and TE in one draft. What's the point of not resigning these guys if they aren't going to spend the money on FAs? Saving it for retirement?

I think you are seriously underestimating the difficulty of adding 4-6 quality starters including a franchise QB in one season. You could probably pick any team in the NFL and turn them into a playoff team if you added 4-6 starters and a good QB so that's no great litmus test.
-
I'm not sure what you're looking at. I see downgrades at every single one of those positions except for possibly cornerback and OLB. Maybe some guys will surprise me and maybe they pickup a starter or two in the draft but there's no way that they are going to be better talent wise than last season. Maybe they will be better coached and win the same number of games but I think it's more likely that with less talent and a new system on offense and defense next season will go into the tank.

In all honesty, it looks like a full on rebuilding year. I really don't see how this team can win more games than last year's with the purges. It may work out in the long run but unless there are some unexpected signings next year is gonna be ugly.

NCAAF is so strong as an institution that it would be hard for a minor league to get ratings away from them. I doubt that there is room for NCAAF, the NFL and also a thriving minor league. Minor leagues work in Baseball and Hockey because those college sports aren't nearly as strong. Also, what player is going to play more than a couple of seasons in a minor league for peanuts hoping to get into the NFL? After a short time his age would start working against him and his chances would drop even further. And he's risking injury all along. How could a minor league develop a following or decent quality play with the kind of turnover that this would imply?

Donald Jones is a New England Patriot

I know that I'm probably int he minority, but Jones showed flashes of good ability in his time here. He is quick, a good runner after the catch and a strong blocker. He was inconsistent (as Gailey liked to point out), but you have to ask how much of that was inconsistency from the QB position? He obviously burned NE enough during our games with them to earn their respect. -
Who the Hell is NOT Nonsense. Who the Hell is on first base while Nonsense is on second.

This thread is making me laugh.

How many draft picks do the Bills get? Need to draft a starting QB, OG/OT, WR, OLB, ILB, S and CB. Looks like they're going to need the best draft in history!

The Brian Griese comparison is because he succeeded Griese as QB at Michigan after Griese led the Wolverines to the national championship. Griese's leadership was widely credited as a major factor in the Wolverine run (that and Charles Woodson). In fact Brady had trouble replacing Griese although he had a better arm and better accuracy. I remember reading at the time that Brady's superior physical tools were "fools gold" and that he did not have Griese's leadership skills, which was true in college. As a matter of fact, QB guru Bill Walsh though that Griese was the best QB prospect of his class which included Peyton Manning.

I was thinking about that and I can see it happening IF the Bills draft a new RT. Then Hairston to G and Pears to the swing tackle role or vice versa. But it would probably have to be in the top 2 or 3 picks to get an instant starter. Otherwise they'll probably pick up someone off the scrap heap to round things out and go with what they've got.

You must mean bicep curls. Leg presses with anything less that 2,000 lbs is a joke.

Lawson looks like a good signing at a reasonable price. I assume that he will play next to Mario. I am still curious what the Bills are thinking on the other side, whether it's Anderson, Moats or someone else.
-
I think that Bradham is going to struggle as a 3-4 OLB. He didn't look that good in pass coverage to me and didn't show much explosiveness off the edge either. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills try to move him to ILB. I think that he may have a chance to do something in there.
-
What makes you think that they will sign Wood? Remember the Briere - Drury debate? How did that turn out?
-
I know. How will the Bills ever win 6 games again?

we should go after Dumervil if price is right

I'm interested to find out, but I would expect to see Dareus get a look at DE along with M Williams in the 3-4, with Carrington and Johnson backing up. K Williams will be a half baked NT. I hear what you're saying- what do they do with K Williams if they draft a NT? I don't know what the answer is but the Bills defense with Dareus and Williams was very weak versus the run. They need a bigger body in the middle to shore things up. One other long shot option would be to play M Williams as an OLB and Kyle Williams as DE in a Wade Phillips style "5-2". Then you could have a new NT and Dareus as the other DLs and Anderson as the other OLB. I'm not sure that it would work since you would have two guys (Williams and Dareus) that you probably wouldn't want to leave on an open edge and two former DEs playing in space if they dropped. I think that it may be something to look at though IF they can find a NT. -
Come on, Dave Garrard is terrible. Frankly, I think that he is even a downgrade from Tebow.
-
The Bills absolutely need a big body at DT. The don't have a legitimate 1 or 0 technique player on their roster, IMO. Dareus is the closest but I think that even he is better playing as a penetrating DT. When Kyle Williams got hurt two years ago, Dareus moved to his position and played very well. The need is even more urgent if they are going to play any 3-4. I think that this is the biggest need on the DL. They have plenty of guys who can play DE: M Williams, Carrington, Johnson even Dareus (which is what he was drafted for).

Yup. The game plan was just to sell out vs the pass, frequently dropping 8 or even 9 men into coverage. The result was that the Bills ran it right down their throats: 25 rushes, 166 yards, 6.6 ypc, 2 rushing TDs. The Giants defense did OK but they didn't really stop the Bills offense. The problem was that the Bills defense couldn't get off the field. I don't see what the Giants defensive game plan had to do with that.

I wonder what's going to happen to Tebow.

Does he have a track record of success at that position or would this be another Chris Kelsay experiment? -

I would say that he'd be a luxury, not really a need. Bills need a NT and LBs, but have lot's of DE candidates.
