  1. Do not get so caught up with the 40 times for LB's, the short & long shuttle is a better judge of their in the box quickness & change of direction...I also think being a film junkie (to diagnose plays in the game) and instincts are better characteristics for a LB.
  2. I saw that too! Ridiculous!!! That OPI on Decker was another...Gronk does the same thing later in the game, crickets. Also how about Hogan's crack back block that was a penalty last week in the Rams game against R. Woods? Brutal!
  3. TT has his limitations but the offense was rank in the top third last year. Can we agree with the facts? And btw, Roman chose TT in an open battle for the position, he also wasn't fired due to QB play...he was actually fired after one of the offense's better performance in his stay with the organization. His removal was more or less a mystery and we'll never really know what happened between Rex & Roman. A. Lynn technically was the interim OC that after the 2nd game of the season and his version of the Roman was a better fit for TT abilities. So asking how many OC's are needed to make him a better QB? I don't know but what I do know is that he has some abilities and to scheme a rigid plan that works against the strengths of your personnel are foolish.
  4. Dennison was a good guy, its just that his offensive system is not very flexible and he did a poor job of using the talent at hand. I also, think this bodes well for TT, especially if the next OC is a creative mind...TT is limited but far from a bottom of the barrel option to bridge until our QB of the future is ready.
  5. Are you comparing Mayfield to Jimbo??? I will wait and see how he preforms during the Senior Bowl week to see if he has the ability to handle being under center & reading a base defense (w/a select senior line up) before casting my vote...none of this years crop of QB are a sure fire NFL player, they're all gonna need time to develop.
  6. It is NOT the average yearly salary that made it tough to match...Its the guaranteed money, roster and signing bonus in the first couple of years. Now, add in a new profile & skill set required by the new DC for the position... it has to make sense to spend in a finite salary structure on a player that doesn't fit the new system. Bradham was reduced to mostly ST play in Pettine version of Ryan defense prior to Schwarts taking over with Marrone as DC.
  7. It would be foolish to cut Glenn, imo. With Dawkins getting valuable experience this year at T, Glenn would give Buffalo the making of a dominate OL with the addition or development of a guard or two.
  8. Why did Whaley let him walk??? It was more like the defense changed with the hiring of Rex Ryan which wasn't a fit. Also add that his former DC was hired in Philly who in turn offered him a boat load of money which Buffalo couldn't match...
  9. I agree, this isn't the best model to follow. This style works for a small family run business but NOT a mega-billion dollar type organization...let the football minds run the football operation, the bean counter figure out the feasibility and the owner trust the opinions of those he hired to do their job.
  10. He gave me a warning once because I called him a troll, when he trolled my post years ago...he's no longer around?
  11. 1st- DT Vita Vea- Washington 1st- QB Ryan Finley- NC State or Mason Rudolph- Okla St 2nd- OLB Malik Jefferson- Texas or DT Taven Bryant - Florida 2nd- TE- Mark Andrews- Okla 3rd- ILB- Chris Worley- Ohio State
  12. That's good for Darnold personally to take the cash just for these reasons alone. I wouldn't mind another team drafting him, just NOT my team...especially if it takes a kings ransom to move up to get him, he's not ready.
  13. Darnold is fools gold...IMO, any team drafting him with the thought that he will start immediately (with success) will be setting their franchise back years. He has been pushed into the limelight due to a great game in the Rose Bowl against Penn St last year. He had a decent 2016 season and a better bowl game that had scouts & some fan thinking that he was trending upward. This year pretty much shows some growth but much improvement is still needed to become a franchise level QB. He has to clean up on his throwing mechanics and protect the ball better to reach this level. He is no where near ready for the NFL. https://www.foxsports.com/college-football/sam-darnold-player-stats Smart move Sam Darnold stay in school and keep developing your skills.
  14. I like him and think he goes early 2nd round, maybe even late 1st (if he declares for the draft)...He may not be suited for all teams but what I like is that he plays mostly under center in a pro set offense. He may be higher on teams board that value a QB comfortable with being under center...
  15. Yes!!! Also, DW was always a team player with the coaches (ultimately his down fall, imo) and the skill set required to run their system...he even mentioned that when Rex took over as HC, how the coach didn't have a prototype to fit his system. Rex just needed "good players" and they would coach them up. Look, we all have our perceptions of how things are run at OBD but we really DON"T know...you have your opinion and I have mine. Good day!!!
  16. It appears TT is valued more around the league than some Bills followers, one of those the grass is greener with another QB type of things. I agree TT has his limitations but far from the bottom of the barrel and by far the best QB that we have acquired in quite awhile (stats wise, W-L), imo.
  17. I am NOT a fan of coaches who pre-determine a system instead of tailoring an approach to the talent at hand, ala Rex and the dismantling of a top ranked defense. One thing I do like about Rico's approach is that it doesn't require a top flight QB. It values more of a pre-snap read, timing type passing game with a QB that can be more of a game manager. I keep thinking of a A. Dalton, Flacco or Shaub type QB these players are more readily available than the franchise type QB...I'll give him another off season to identify a QB to run his system.
  18. The point I was trying to make is the HC gives the GM the type of player(s) needed to make his system successful. The GM still has to agree & go acquire the player...Now the problem would have been if DW didn't agree with the coach & acquired a totally different skill set. This shows that these decisions are more a collaborative thing instead of a dictatorship...thanks for the link. GM- Is the talent evaluator HC- Coaches the talent the GM acquires
  19. OK, so in your opinion , let me get this straight...while McD was forming his coaching staff and evaluating the roster at hand. As a first time HC in the league hired by the tenured GM, McD was also scanning the list of upcoming FA's available for the upcoming season? Even tho McD's previous stint was DC and a long shot HC candidate, who by all accounts was a bigger long shot after his Panthers defense had an off year stats wise. McD had the wherewithal, to compile a list for the GM to acquire these two players? C'mon man!? McD is organized (so they say) but traditionally it is the GM who acquires the players based upon what the HC requires NOT the other way around...Give credit where it belongs, DW was a pretty good evaluator of talent, he was just not good with finding a franchise QB, a skill most teams in the league are lacking. By all intent and purpose, why hire Beane if McD is the mastermind and talent evaluator? OBD can use the funds to boost the scouting department...
  20. Even tho I think Rico's stays as the OC...TJ Yates was his pick at QB to backup TT in the off season, that in itself gives me pause.
  21. I really don't like either for Rico's offense, his offense needs a taller QB that sees over the middle & down the seams...I would wait to the 2nd rd and draft a guy like NC State QB-Finley. Great size 6'4" , rhythm passer with some pocket presence, upside is probably somewhere around the Dalton, Flacco or maybe even Matt Schaub range. I just think Allen is a few years away, if at all. He really needs to be developed slowly with a good QB coach to reach his potential. I love Mayfield's grit and passion but he is not a fit for Dennison's WC offense...Our OC has shown his resistance to adjusting his scheme to fit the talent at hand. Mayfield is a 5-7 step downfield passer and Dennison offense is 1st based upon the 3 step drop.
  22. Correction...ok. Now to the meat of the discussion, I agree with you regarding the untimely moving of an unimpressive start to the season by MD...the decision have exposed the short-comings of KW, Adolphus Washington and the rest of the motley crew, that has filled in since MD departure. Maybe, McBean feels that it may be cheaper to repair some of the shortcoming on defense with FA signing but traditional its more expensive unless they wait for the "dust settles" type.
