  1. When I mention spirit of the rule, the intent of using the helmet mic was to relay plays into the game as the team's huddle. Allowing this type technology wasn't intended to give an advantage for one side or the other, imo...its on par with how NE used the eligible/ ineligible WR loophole in the playoff game against Baltimore. It took a few off-season's before it was addressed. If the committee isn't addressing it this year, so be it. But I think it's a topic of discussion around the league. McVay addresses the cheating claims.
  2. I agree, its within the current rule but hardly is it within the spirit and intent of it. There were rumblings about how McVay's interpretation may have exposed a loophole...Let's see what the competition committee thinks during the GM meetings.
  3. Goff looked like chicken poo poo until he had a system that was schemed to his strength... Also, I think that system used by the HC/OC will be under review next week at the GM meetings...the use of lining up at the LOS while still having the coaches radio active, is not in the spirit of the rule of play, imo. If they amend this loophole does Goff revert back to his previous play?
  4. ...and you guys assume that Beane takes the responsibility for all those GM before his tenure. Its foolish to overpay for a prospect just because some in the fan base has taken the stance that the future QB has to be one of the top 3 picks this year. I'm glad Beane alluded to sticking to the value they have placed on the prospects in the draft. The "hype" machine is always in play at this time of the year. Trust the process!
  5. Thanks for making my case...I listed the franchise QB's and you so eloquently supported my assertion. The notion of the franchise QB doesn't depend upon where they were drafted but the result of their play on the field. Being a top overall pick in itself doesn't make you a franchise player. I will attest that any organization with the top pick will expect that player to be an impact type/ franchise player but that's only in theory. B. Roethelisberger indeed started in his rookie year but he was NOT the focal point of the offense. It was a strong running game w/ playaction strategically used situationally also supported by a top ranked defense. (Supported by an existing strong cast) T. Aikman was also supported by a strong running game & dominant defense...he even spoke of how simple his offensive system was design by the OC. (system designed to fit the QB skill set) A. Rodgers sat & learned and developed into a franchise QB- (Fact regardless of your reasons) Also, Alex Smith was a #1 overall pick. Do you consider him a franchise QB? When I think "franchise" QB, I think of a player that has separated himself from the pact and has taken his franchise to an elite level. We clearly have different criteria...
  6. I will indulge you just for shacks & gaggles. If the only way to obtain a "franchise" QB were by drafting in the top 3 picks I would agree with you. Trade everything for that guy but this crop of prospects are more hype than substance, IMO. They can very easily be this draft: RD SEL # PLAYER POSITION SCHOOL TEAM 1 1 Tim Couch QB Kentucky Cleveland Browns 1 2 Donovan McNabb QB Syracuse Philadelphia Eagles 1 3 Akili Smith QB Oregon Cincinnati Bengals 1 11 Daunte Culpepper QB Central Florida Minnesota Vikings 1 12 Cade McNown QB UCLA Chicago Bears 2 50 Shaun King QB Tulane Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3 77 Brock Huard QB Washington Seattle Seahawks 4 101 Joe Germaine QB Ohio State St. Louis Rams 4 131 Aaron Brooks QB Virginia Green Bay Packers 5 151 Kevin Daft QB California-Davis Tennessee Titans 7 227 Michael Bishop QB Kansas State New England Patriots 7 239 Chris Greisen QB Northwest Missouri State Arizona Cardinals 7 245 Scott Covington QB Miami (Fla.) Cincinnati Bengals What do you consider a "franchise" QB? One who gets a team to the ultimate prize (Lombardi Trophy)? Or a QB who has great regular season numbers but the team is meh? Here some info for you...in the last decade of the QB drafted in the 1st rd, only 1 has won a SB (Flacco, drafted 18th overall '08). List of consensus "franchise" QB currently in the NFL ; T. Brady- 6th rd (multi SB winner) A. Rodgers - 1st rd, 24th overall ( SB winner & perennial passing leader) D. Brees- 2nd rd (see A. Rodgers) R. Wilson - 3rd rd Eli Manning- 1st overall ( 2 SB) B. Roethlisberger - 1st rd, 11th overall P. Rivers- 1st- 4th overall (no even sure if he has even had a playoff appearance) So to answer your qwery, the way to find a "franchise" QB, is to first build a solid team and develop one slowly ala Big Ben, Flacco, Brady, Aikman. This notion of the "franchise" QB is a misnomer, imo...it's more or less find a QB and tailor your system to his strengths.
  7. I have a feeling he's gotten the real value of this years prospect from league source & scouts. Color me NOT impressed as some with this year's crop...they all are gonna need time to develop, imo.
  8. I agree, its all a gamble. I have followed this QB draft very closely like others have as well. I really don't see an impact QB prospect outside of Rosen and he has warts due to concussions. I'm not a fan of overvaluing a prospect due to need...I trust that Beane & staff have way more info on each prospect and have set a realistic value on who will be slotted where and not a fan message board. Its fun, entertaining & frustrating at times reading though.
  9. NO WAY!!! There is not a QB in this draft worthy of this much value...If this was A. Luck or Rodgers yes. This is specifically what Beane was referring to in the press conference, they have a value on a prospect. Don't get loss with the fact. I understand that QB are overvalued come draft time but you don't deal from a position of weakness, imo...also overall there is only one QB with a top 5 grade (Darnold) and he needs a year or two of development, imho.
  10. Before you throughout hypotheticals, here's a helpful reference for you... 11. It just amazes me how this guy stays employed. He's made more money in this league...total head scratcher.
  12. This guy must really live a charmed life. Out of work for all of 9 mins... He should write a book on how to steal without going to jail! http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-free-agency/0ap3000000921351/Rapoport-explains-details-of-Glennon-s-contract-with-Cardinals
  13. The comment was neither meant to recap in detail information that has been discuss on this site ad nauseum, but I will indulge. Neither fact about each QB prospect listed was a stereotype. These are based upon reports and data from league insiders... J. Rosen- has a history of being concussed. Having this history leads to the instability of mortgaging your franchises draft currency on someone who is much more susceptible in the future. S. Darnold- INT: TD ratio is a concern. He has gotten away with throwing across his body & not setting his feet properly (at the college level)...can he improve on these shortcoming? maybe but far from a sure thing. J. Allen- see S. Darnold and add accuracy concerns (<60% career) B. Mayfield- By all accounts, he has the intangibles needed to succeed but height is a concern due to the fact many borderline 6 foot QB drafted in the 1st round have had the success in the current league. L. Jackson- its been suggested by a HOF GM and evaluator of talent, that he should test at another position at the combine is quite telling. I am not saying I agree with Polian but Jackson has his supporter & distractors. What's lazy is a vail comment without supporting your own counter statement.
  14. Just so ironic...Cleveland are filling opening with actual NFL players and spending up the surplus ($100M cap space) and we are trading assets for futures while heading toward a 100M in cap space next year. I'm trusting the process but not liking the trend...I will feel much better with a FA QB (of quality) to mentor our future QB.
  15. That's your conclusion? Really disturbing how you came to this...
  16. Bingo!!!! The problem is, this isn't a game for the GM laying is job on the line. Case in point, Nix & Whaley just drafted a guy...was he 1st rd worthy? Prior to that it was JP Losman...just drafting a QB is foolish unless he's a 1st rd talent (verified by the teams board)and NOT because ofa need at the position. Posters can dream up any scenario they want, if it doesn't workout...whats the damage incurred? Absolutely nothing but fun & games. Famous Quote-" If you listen to the fans in the stands, you will soon be sitting with them." Marv Levy
  17. Darby won a championship as a starting CB with the Eagles.
  18. There isn't an elite QB in this draft...they all have warts! None is ready as a day 1 starter... Rosen- concussions Darnold- decision making, poor footwork and turnovers Allen- Accuracy Mayfield- Height Jackson- Pro style QB abilities
  19. I am pretty sure the TT deal doesn't go down if the Bills didn't already have a QB coming via FA or Trade. Next week should be fun! This just in, Nate Pick-meagain is still throwing interceptions during off-season conditioning drill!
  20. Class Act! I never could understand the hate from some of the fan base, sure he has his limitations but he has the best W/L percentage as a starting QB for this organization in a decade and people still b***h. Sure he not a Brady, Rodgers or Brees but he won games and represented the organization and the region very well every time the camera or mics were turned on... hopefully the next man up is worthy. Or we are heading back to trivial pursuit.
  21. For the record I am really against trading up because this group is more hype than substance, imo. This rating by NFL.com grading system reflects as such...QB prospect grades per NFL.com
  22. So much for developing their QB of the future, Paxton Lynch...he was all the rave a few years ago coming out of Memphis. Just goes to show, that drafting a QB in the 1st round (even if not a 1st rd talent) for the sake of addressing a need is foolish, imo. NFL = Not For Long
  23. Do you mean Donald Jones? If so, yes...his kidney condition was revealed at the combine.
  24. I totally understand the science...my example was a caption and not an expose. I condensed the example, so as NOT to bore the message. For the record, analytics and other metrics has a place in determining situational football but the actual execution on the field matters more. BP basically said the same thing and I agree with him. Some of his other comments , not so much. A coaches decision to go/ no go ultimately is based upon game day field execution and current game information and performance not some matrix that reveal some stat that summarizes the overall league trends. Its a classic case of which came first the chicken or the egg?
