I don't agree. They both looked bad.

A few thoughts here: While cutting Star wouldn't save a lot of money, it's not prohibitive either. They'd get $2M in space from it; I do think it's unlikely though. They don't need to cut Murphy to sign an EDGE guy. They have a ton of cap space. Shaq and Phillips would have to be crazy to take anything less than top dollar deals this offseason. Both are going to be 27, both play premium positions, and both are coming off of career years. Just look at Phillips' situation: how often does a 27-year old DT with 9.5 sacks at 340 lbs hit the open market? He should be looking for a ridiculous pay day.

Completely agree Dave. I'd look at Chase Daniel or Colt McCoy in FA. I'd love to get Teddy B, but my gut tells me that someone gives him a bridge contract. Maybe if Indy decided to move on from Brissett that'd be an option, and there's always Case Keenum too. He was awful against the Pats******. He made one nice sideline throw and that was it.

Bumping to ask if anyone has looked at the Falcons' cap situation? No wonder they didn't make a change; no GM or coach in their right mind would walk into this mess: $2M over the cap for 2020 with massive dead money hits if they release any of their 7 highest paid players aside from Alex Mack. That's brutal. They can create some breathing room by cutting some of their depth guys, but they'll be less than $20M under the cap with 40 players under contract. It's a disaster right now.

Pick 3 FA's you'd like to see targeted.
thebandit27 replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Jadeveon Clowney AJ Green Carlos Hyde If not that, then I'm looking to deal a pick for Calais Campbell, Von Miller, Everson Griffen, or Chandler Jones. I think they need to address WR and EDGE in both FA and the draft. -
Josh Allen - SEASON TWO report card
thebandit27 replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think B- is fair. Too many comebacks and clutch plays to drop into the C range, but not enough consistency or big-game efforts to earn a solid B IMO. In terms of career arc, I saw everything I needed to see to be encouraged about his future. -
I've always interpreted the term "franchise QB" to mean "a guy you can win a Super Bowl with even if everything else isn't excellent around him". The top group are what I term "elite". Right now, for me, that's a very small group that consists of Mahomes, Wilson, Lamar, Brees, and probably Rodgers (though he's in decline). Then there's the rest of the franchise guys, which include (again IMO): Watson Garoppolo Goff Stafford Cousins Ryan Dak Wentz Then you've got your promising-but-not-yet-there types: Allen Darnold Murray Jones Everyone else, IMO, is probably looking over their shoulder at this point.

Salary Cap Freeze effective 4Pm today
thebandit27 replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No need to worry. The team could spend $50M on those 2 players, sign all of their draft picks, and still be able to afford 2 premium (and I mean massive) UFA deals without breaking a sweat. I like to think of it this way: the cap increases ~$10M each year, which equates to the cost to sign a team's draft class plus have room for in-season transactions. -
Oh I watched, which is how I was able to estimate the result of the search that I just did before I actually did it. The 2019 Bills ranked 8th in the NFL in average scoring lead per drive at 0.72 points ahead per drive (according to Football Outsiders). The 2017 Bills ranked 19th in the NFL in that stat; they were BEHIND by an average of 2.72 points per drive. So yeah, I'm sure of what I said. 2019 Bills: Rarely trailed. 2017 Bills: seldomly ahead.
-
Well, for one, I watched the games. For another, the QB attempted 420 passes in 14 games despite playing from behind an appreciable amount of time. Allen had roughly the same number of attempts per game despite that the Bills were rarely trailing. And when they were, he usually lead them back to the lead. But if you feel that strongly that Taylor would've easily replicated Allen's production, despite there being zero supporting evidence, then I'll leave you to that.

Bills' mishandling of the CB position
thebandit27 replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Relax. Nobody said you're a wacko. I said (1) that they didn't keep 4 corners; they kept 5, and (2) that an injury to a starting corner is no greater concern to the Bills than it would be to any other team. Perhaps it's even less considering that the replacement starter has been taking 40% of the reps for the last 7 weeks. -
Hardly. The design of the 2017 offense was entirely different and really didn't ask the QB to make plays. Allen has more or less been the entire offense. By the way, that "much worse" defense actually forced 5 more turnovers and scored 3 more TDs than this year's. You can keep trying to parse through minutiae if you'd like; the point here is pretty simple: in this offense, with this design and approach, with this group of personnel, saying that either Taylor or Fitz would've easily gotten this team to the playoffs is bonkers.

Bills' mishandling of the CB position
thebandit27 replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Taron is healthy, then they have 4 healthy corners going into the game. It's not an any more of a concern than any other team would have. In reality, had they kept a 6th corner on the roster, it would've been Lewis, who's been practicing with the team for 8 months. Cool. Assuming nothing of note on Neal, they have 2 boundary guys and 2 slot guys healthy. Probably move Levi to IR and promote Cam. -
NFL Black Monday - Coaching Changes

Jerry doesn't make nearly as many personnel decisions as he'd like you to believe. Will McClay is the personnel guru behind their talent accumulation NBC sports reported that Lynn is safe in LA -

Don't overlook Kris Richard in Dallas. Jerry has promoted from within for 4 consecutive coaches, and Richard has done a phenomenal job with their defense. -
Bills' mishandling of the CB position
thebandit27 replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe that's correct. I'm more concerned about Taron than Levi though--I think KJ will represent little to no dropoff, whereas the drop off from Taron to Neal is more significant -

thebandit27 replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taron is the one I'm more interested in at the moment. If he's not able to go, you're down to Neal (assuming he's healthy; he got hurt too), Marlowe, or kicking KJ inside and bringing up Lewis. 5 and 5. Neal is a slot corner in this defense. -
The 2017 offense featured a 1,100 yard back that scored 6 rushing TDs. The team also got scores from the defense in key wins against Oakland and Atlanta. In a support role, Taylor produced 18 total TDs and 8 total TOs. He produced 3,200 yards of total offense. This year, no Bills RB eclipsed 800 yards. The entire team scored only 6 TDs that didn't involve Allen. Despite a relative lack of support offensively, he produced 3,600 yards of total offense with 29 TDs and 13 TOs. He also lead 4 4th quarter comebacks and 5 game winning drives. In 2017, Taylor lead 1 and 2, respectively. If we're looking at this team, with this staff and this support group operating this offense, then I would call it the height of insanity to claim that either Tyrod or Fitz would've done the same, let alone to say they'd have done it easily. No offense.
-
Maybe, maybe not. But the bigger point here is that they have to face a very physical team in just 5 days, and that's going to take a major toll on them even if they do manage to win. Aside from always hoping that NE****** loses, I think Baltimore and Tennessee would be a delightfully bloody slugfest in round 2.

Bills' mishandling of the CB position
thebandit27 replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Siran Neal is a corner in Buffalo's defense, hence why they carry 5 other safeties. They can't field a 75-man roster in week 17. Some guys are going to have to play. In fact, if you could pick a position for the Bills to lose a starter, Wallace has to be the first choice by a mile. Kevin Johnson has been solid and has been getting 40% of the boundary corner snaps since week 10.- 111 replies

Chances Bills play first game of wildcard weekend?
thebandit27 replied to Negan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sunday 4:30 is the best slot. Always the highest viewership. Second is Sunday 1pm. Your beloved Pats****** are in the #3 time slot. Cheer up. It doesn't make you less of a person. -
I think it's possible for sure. He's going to be 30 next season, he has a $21.3M cap hit, and they're a team that hasn't historically valued their defensive linemen.

'cept that's not what I said. Yeah, but they're 2 years removed from a Super Bowl; they'll get a bigger viewing window
