  1. No, Joe, you don’t. You can play for the team that drafts you or sit out a year and be labeled a brat.
  2. Yep, that’s what several folks have been saying for months. He’s arguably the best fit in the NFL for what this team needs.
  3. Wrong again. Clowney’s best season in terms of sacks came in 2017–Watt missed the year due to injury. Time to let this one go. You’re way off about the guy.
  4. The Trent Murphy cut just makes absolutely no sense. There’s almost no chance that it makes your team better this year.
  5. Huh. So Donald had a “down year”? He lead the NFL in TFLs, QB hurries, and was 2nd in QB pressures Down year ? This discussion is a case study for why just looking at sacks is not a great way to determine who’s a good pass rusher.
  6. Occasionally teams like to have more than one good player at a position. Crazy, I know
  7. I’m over 20 at the moment
  8. Browns just cut Demetrius Harris, so unless they plan to go into FA without a starting TE, I’d say the idea of trading Njoku just became less likely a scenario
  9. I have no idea re: Green. I think Old Salty will want a 1st, but my gut tells me that a 3rd this year and a conditional in 2021 gets it done. As for the draft, I really, really like Aiyuk. Speed is there, but there’s so much more to be mined from him. He is athletic, powerful, and I like that he already runs his routes with precision. What I’m finding to be really important for me is consistency with which a guy comes off the LOS. I want to see the same burst/effort coming out of the blocks whether it’s a deep ball, slant, curl, or a run play. When you get to the NFL, you’ve got to recognize that you’re someone’s key on every play. A savvy safety is going to know from film study that you come off the LOS differently on run vs pass plays. I love that Aiyuk has the attention to detail for small things like keeping his body position consistent and really exploding out of the gate on every snap. Once he learns to really exploit his steps and leveraged against top corners, he could be a legit WR1.
  10. Sure. My point is that yes, sacks are important, but they’re not the only measuring stick when it comes to rushing the passer.
  11. Putting the QB on the ground? Like, say, QB knockdowns? Cool...because Clowney had more QB knockdowns in 2019 than Aaron Donald (and Yannick Ngakoue for the record). https://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2019/defense_advanced.htm
  12. Because there’s more to pass rushing than sacks. He’s 4th in TFLs over the last 4 seasons behind Donald, Chandler Jones, and Cam Jordan. He’s 3rd in QB pressures over the last 3 seasons. He’s a monster against the run. And all of that has come in defensive schemes that aren’t tailored to speed-to-power conversion rushers like Clowney (McDermott’s D is perfect for that, which is why guys like Charles Johnson and Greg Hardy racked up sacks in that scheme and didn’t elsewhere). All that said: Sign Clowney Trade for AJ Green Draft Brandon Aiyuk
  13. Mack would save 8, but that won’t cover Hooper’s AAV IMO. I also can’t see a team with a history of OL issues cutting their best OLman in a must-win season for Quinn and Dimitroff. Schaub saves $2M, but then who’s the backup. They could let Keanu Neal or Damontee Kazee go, but again they have major issues in the defensive backfield. Just a bad situation there all around.
  14. Atlanta has the worst cap situation in the NFL. I have no idea how they could sign Hooper.
  15. What’s the rush exactly?
  16. What? Why? Dude outperformed our entire TE group in 2019.
  17. He’s from Mississippi?
  18. Run away while you still can...
  19. Dude. This is insane. The $2.5M is part of a $5M signing bonus from a 2-year deal that Dareus signed prior to the 2019 season. A signing bonus gets paid immediately but the cap hit is evenly distributed over the length of the contract. That means that $5M gets paid immediately, but $2.5M per year is applied to the cap regardless of whether or not Dareus is on the team. Because it’s guaranteed. Period. No more complicated than that. You keep using the term “dead cap”. What you mean by that is “dead money cap hit”. All that means is the amount of money that the player would count against this season’s cap if he’s cut. That’s it. So yes, both spotrac and OTC do in fact calculate the impact of a player being cut. Just click the little red “x” next to Dareus’ 2020 cap figure on spotrac and it’ll show you. I honestly am out of ways to explain this, and am totally incredulous as to how you could possibly not get it at this point.
  20. He’ll probably get another season on IR.
  21. Great stuff as always. I generally agree on many items, but I really like that you also see an early run on tackles. Unfortunately I also think that all of Lamb/JJ/Ruggs are gone in picks 11-15. Not a big Higgins guy in round 1 myself. Reagor I like quite a bit though.
  22. I have almost no concern about punching the ball in with Motor and Josh in the backfield
  23. At this point it’s just easier to say that you’re wrong. Several folks have broken it down on this board. The two online authorities—spotrac and OTC—have it clearly listed. A really quick google search would yield the following as the top results, all of which clearly state a $20M cap savings: https://www.bigcatcountry.com/platform/amp/2019/12/23/21021307/which-players-cap-casualties-jaguars-2020 https://www.si.com/.amp-jaguars/nfl/jaguars/news/are-the-jaguars-better-off-releasing-marcell-dareus-or-finding-a-way-to-retain-him https://www.1010xl.com/2019/05/09/examining-jaguars-salary-cap-situation-now-and-into-future/ http://www.sbnationradio.com/here-are-the-biggest-nfl-veterans-who-could-be-cut-this-offseason/ There’s just nothing that even remotely muddies the waters here.
  24. $2.5M of his $5M signing bonus counts against the 2020 cap.
  25. Chuck Clark really kind of made him expendable
