He couldn’t ever get through a conversation without bringing up that he played college football and owned three Ivy championship rings. His playing career consisted of a single kickoff coverage in the final game of his senior year. He has his three rings encased in a glass box on his mantelpiece. That’s what I thought of when I saw the helmet. Look, I know it’s a big deal to make a college roster in any sport, particularly at the D-1 level. But it’s always the guys that didn’t play who brag the most about it.
