The Colts may promote Pete Metzelaars to OL coach. How
billsfreak replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When is the last time the Giants won a World Series? I can't seem to remember when. You hire who you are familiar with and who you think will be the best coaches. Pro sports are a business not a family reunion. -
Apparently he hasn't seen Kelly Monaco, or Denise Richards, Brooke Burke, Shannon Elizabeth, Holly Madison, Josie Maran, Stacy Keibler, Shoanna Moakler, Willia Ford and on and on. Not to mention the female professional dancers, wow! I don't know much of anything about ballroom dancing, but I have High Definition TV and I don't miss that show.

I somewhat agree with you and to be truthful, I am as worried about the OL as I am about Trent, which comes back to worrying about Trent's performance. A young QB needs alot of things around him working well for him to perform well. He has a few more weapons now, but the biggest question is whether he will have the time to get the ball to them, not whether he as the physical or mental ability to get the ball to them. He doesn't have all the tools, but not many do. He has the smarts and the calm in the pocket. He may be lacking a little in the arm strength, but if he develops right and the team puts the tools around him, he can be successful.

Do You Agree With This?
billsfreak replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If a recruit bases his decision on where to go on what numbers are available, he probably won't amount to much anyway. If anything, it is a good recruitment tool, as long as it isn't overdone. Young guys today would most likely know who Jim Brown was and what he did as a pro, but probably wouldn't know that he went to Syracuse, but if they walk through the campus and see his jersey in a showcase, it might help. -
It might be worth a tryout, no harm there. But two years ago, two different teams thought he was done (Colts/Cardinals), so they just may be right. Most any player is going to say he can still play at a high level way after he has lost it all, just the competitive mentality of athletes.
-
I can see it now, Jauron throwing his whistle on the ground, picking up the football and running off the field crying. Only a matter of time before T.O. has all of Western New York agreeing with us that say in the long run it is a mistake bringing the NFL's biggest *ss to Buffalo.

I hope you are right, if Favre comes back we are in the Super Bowl for sure. WTF?
-
If Trent falls on his face, which he may with one of the least athletic Offensive Lines in the NFL, we have to draft a QB. I wouldn't mind Brady Quinn, he would be worth maybe a 2nd round pick. If any team in the NFL hands the future over to Fitzpatrick, the NFL needs to take the team away from them. He is barely even good enough to be a backup, much less the future of a team.

The Colts may promote Pete Metzelaars to OL coach. How
billsfreak replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you hit the nail right on the head. Would you want to coach in an established organization with stability or one that changes coaches every 3 years, and with that comes changes in coaching staffs. Beside Polian having a connection with the ex-Bills, he always creates a stable organization with class where ever he as been. I have always said, that is when the Bills downhill slide began, when Ralph forced Polian out of Buffalo. Beside, Reich and Metz followed Polian to Carolina when he left Buffalo and started the expansion Panthers, so they must like working for/with him. -

Reich and Metz are two of my favorite all time Bills, but what makes you think Manning doesn't have heart? Because he didn't play in Buffalo? He is going to retire as one of the top 5 or 6 QB's of all time, you don't do that with no heart. This organization could only wish we had a Peyton Manning, in fact in my span of being a Bills fan (over 40 years now), we have only had one QB come close to Manning in ability, heart or results. -
Predict the AFC East teams final records for 2009..

I don't think it is as much optimism as it is wishful thinking. If only we could have improved as the season moved forward last year, instead we did just the opposite. -

More than a few drinks, especially since they all play each other twice, some of the wins just disappeared. Would be a nice fantasy though. -

If TO helps take us to the next level, why only 1 year?
billsfreak replied to SKOOBY's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't believe that has ever been in a NFL contract, it might not even be allowed. -

One year is plenty. Look at his track record, his first year everywhere has pretty much gone without a hitch. After the first year though, he has worn out his welcome and destroyed locker rooms everywhere he has been. One year is risky enough as it is for a young team, more than one would be foolish. -
Tom Flores? I know who he is, but he was much more famous for winning two Superbowls with the Raiders, and still most of the country doesn't even know who he is. That is like saying that Marty Schottenheimer is one of the most famous Bills ever. If you are talking about famous with the general public and not with the sporting world, I would make a list something like this: 1. O.J.-Obvious Reasons 2. Al Cowlings-see #1-White Bronco 3. Jack Kemp-Political Reasons 4. Scott Norwood-Wide Right-Everyone watches the Superbowl 5. T.O.-Everyone knows a good As*hole 6. Jim Kelly-Even non sports fans watch the Superbowl/Also several appearances for Krabbe's-i.e. Oprah Show 7. Paul McGuire-Been announcing games forever it seems 8. Doug Flutie-Doesn't everyone like him? 9. Kevin Everett-He was all over the News and TV Shows a few years ago. 10. Thurman Thomas-Lost his helmet during the Super Bowl-the general public doesn't watch the game for the game, but for dumb things like this. This is only a list based on the general public, if I was basing it on the sporting world, it would be all different except for #1.

It has to be Reed, he is fit for that role much more than the #2 they have been trying to make him be. He comes up with the clutch 3rd down catches and gets the YAC like a #3 does. He doesn't really have the size or speed to be a #2.

I will take the safe bet, 7-9, there is a pattern develped here.

Lynch a big fan of retro helmet
billsfreak replied to BuffaloBlood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe he just fears the red helmet, the charging Buffalo reminds him of leaving the scene after his hit and run. -
I think the answer to that questions depends on three things: If the O-Line can play way better than last year. If Trent Edwards can reverse the trend of getting worse as the year goes on. Someone is going to have to step up in a big way at the TE position, critical for Edwards success. If all these things happen, I think they can take advantage of the weapons, and I do think the talked about no huddle offense would help. With our weaknesses on the O-Line and Trent's strongest areas of play which are his intelligence and accuracy, the No Huddle plays right into our offensive personnel. If we have to depend on the O-Line giving Edwards all day to find an open reciever, it won't be pretty.

In the AFC East? Not yet. They need to prove something on the field for an entire season, not just the first 5 or 6 weeks like last year. We weren't the only team to add players in one of the NFL's toughest divisions, in which we were the only team with a losing record. Looking good on paper doesn't get you very far.

Mike Williams Comeback Tour 2009
billsfreak replied to N.Y. Orangeman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think if you read the articles on him, he refrained from blaming the coaching changes for his lackluster play, but blamed himself. It is ok to not like someone, but don't put words in peoples mouths. -

I pretty much agree with everything that you say, except I think if he is going to make any type of career in the NFL it needs to be anywhere but Buffalo. No matter what he did if he came back here, he will always be possibly the biggest draft bust in team history. The media wouldn't let go of it, the fans wouldn't let go of it and without a doubt TBD wouldn't let go of it. If he only gave up one sack all year, he would be crucified for it in Buffalo. -
