Jaurons comment on Hangartner
atlbillsfan1975 replied to abqmarko's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I personally would like a guy that has played some in the NFL and shown he can perform. And just because he was a back up last year doesn't always mean a guy is a scrub. The Falcons were able to get Micheal Turner last year from S.D. And he turned out to be pretty damn good. He had shown when given the opportunity he could perform while in S.D and when he became a free agent his current team could not afford to carry that much payroll at the same position. So he signed elsewhere. Exactly what happened here. Carolina could not afford to have that much money tied up in the Oline so they had to let Hangartner get paid elsewhere. -
Do we have some of the pieces already?

Left gaurd i would address in the draft. Probably with the second pick. On defense i agree the Bills need another 'impact' player. At 11 this gets addressed. You need two players in the front seven. This must be addressed with your first and third pick. It is great to have 'impact' players all over the field but that usually doesn't happen .Instead have one at each 'level' and then surround them with very solid starters. I want to think that maybe Bell, McCargo, Ellis, Johnson, and Fine can be those solid starters we need from them. Atleast give them playing time this year, and then next year decide if you need to go after some FAs or pick guys up in the draft for those positions. You can not get every need filled in one off season with great impact players. -

In response to those guys i mentioned everyone of them but McCargo is going into their second year. So this is the year they should see the field a lot. Then you can really tell what they have. McCargo is a big mystery to me too. 07 was decent, made some nice plays. Then 08 was back problems and butted heads w Dline coach i guess or hoping. Johnson played great his senior year at Kentucky. Had numbers in catches and yards comprable to some of the guys mentioned as 1st rounders this year. And once Hardy got hurt and he saw time near the end of the season he had some nice games. I think that is why the optimism is there on him. He had 60 catches his senior year for over 1000 yds with 13 tds. Last year for the Bills he had 10 catches for 100 yds and 2 tds. I will take a wr from the SEC with those numbers over and Big 12 wr with similar numbers. I dont think they even play D out there. Its like a computer game. Is that how Madden is? j/k. -

I hope and i pray you are kidding about the Madden remark. No body is a star in the NFL till they make plays. -

I definetly believe the Bills need to add help in the draft. I would go D in the first, Oline in the second and then Oline or Dfront 7 in the third depending on other two rounds. I think we have some of the pieces in house to be successful. but need to add a few good drafts picks and some depth guys in other areas. Then hope the young guys can step up and develope into true starters. -

Astro. Let me just tell you if Southerland is there in the 7th round this kid is a gamer. I have not seen a fullback block like him in a longtime. Night and day for UGAs ground game last year when he was in there. And very good at passblocking as well. If the Bills really want a fullback he is a stud. Did get dinged up some his senior year. But watched him play against SEC defensive front sevens and was great. -
Just a question, But could the Bills possibly have some of the answers to the needs in house already? Bell= Starting on Oline this year. Ellis= DE. Fine=T.E Johnson= WR McCargo= DT. Now i know these guys are young but most of them have shown some flashes. This is not me saying they are the answer to every need. And i will say the Bills need to add players on Oline and the D front seven through the draft. I am just asking.

Now that the dust has settled on the T.O. pick up

Before the days of FA teams built through the draft. And then Trades. This years draft has a lot of guys in areas the Bills need help. DE, Interior Olinemen, and LBs. T.E to me is an issue i dont think/hope the bills address in FA or in the draft. I personally think you have very good/great WRs in Evans and Owens. These two guys will stretch the field and command attention. This will leave Reed and Fine open underneath. I know Fine/Reed aren't going to catch a seem route and go for 50 yds. But they will be free to p/u 7-10yds. I also like to see how Steve Johnson progress' this year. Owens is going to help this offense a lot. The Bills just need to address the LG spot in the second or third. In the First go defense. Sorry but dont see the glum and doom of the Owens signing. -
Wide reciever is the one position the field that is tide to so many other variables. Just look at Detriot. For years they were picking the best wide out in the draft, but neglected the Oline and QB. A great Oline and a great QB will make any three wideouts look very good. Heck N.E won all three of their superbowls with average to good wide outs. But they had a great Oline and a great QB. And many those years were using average RBs.

Heard of the Draft? You can probably address many of your problems in the first three rounds. Also the Bills have talent on the team that might be ready to step up this year. Ellis was a 3rd rounder last year who maybe is developing. The coaches know that better then us.Bell is another guy the Bills might like as one of the guys to step up and play Oline this year. If i remember correct he is on the same course Peters was. I guess i am not yet in panick mode. I think the team may/may not be totally done in FA. But there is no denyiny they have left some holes that must be addressed. The draft and whats already in the system just might be how they are going to fill those holes. -
Not a bad player either. Wouldn't mind either one in the fourth.
-
I just dont see the Bills taking a center as early as Mack will go. Hangartner was just signed for three years. You need a LG probably Duke Robinson. Bills Oline coach was at his pro day last week.
-
The DT that i like in this years draft is Ricky Jean-Francois. He might slip to the fourth but probably goes in the third. Kid was defensive MVP of the championship game. Was hurt some this past year. And suspended for grades at one point. If he did not have those two things against him would probably be a second round pick. If Bills dont go DT early and he is on the board in the fourth it sure would beat another HBack/T.E.
-
It all depends on the OLine. The Bills have to either sign another FA or draft a gaurd in the second. Once that is done then why not? The passing game will be better then last year. (Go ahead you negative guys, blast away). Which will open up more lanes for Lynch. The real thing stopping him from getting a lot of yard is Jackson. Personally i would like to see the Bills use Jackson and Lynch like Atlanta uses Turner and Norwood.
-
Oh yeah and he is 6'0 225. I think that is about the same size as Ellison. And if you are gonna tell me Ellison is as big a hitter or has the same skills as Williams then you aren't watching the same thing i am. And given the fact he likes to play inside the box and help with run support while he was at safety, then its not that big of a change for him. Especially if he is already familiar with the scheme. And his coverage skills at linebacker/ who he would be responsible for covering are a lot different then at safety.
-
One of the reason his play diminished was because Dallas switched its scheme. He had his probowl years in a 4-3 cover two style D. Which the Bills play now. Not saying he is a great cover safety by any means. But a few guys have stated he could be had relatively cheap comming off two injured arms last year. And yes he could play linebacker. He is a tough hitter, and i bet he could cover just as good as any linebacker the Bills currently have under contract. He was/has been mentioned to make the move to LB. I would not be surprised which ever team signs him will try to move him to a linebacker.

Redskins release Mat Sinclair
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Buftex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They will have to release players or rework contracts to get under Cap. Or the NFL will step in and do it for them. I think this happened a couple years ago in Jax. They were way over the cap. Finally the NFL went down to Jax and said you have 24 hours to get under cap or we will do it for you. And the NFL doesn't take into account who you want or dont they just cut guys based on salaries to get you under the cap. I think i rember correctly but someone here can correct me if i am wrong. -
Leif Larsen? I dont remember him too much.? Did he have a very good career in college. As far as Raji pushing him around. If i rember correctly Mack looked a lot better in team drills then he did one on one. This is usually the case becasue very seldom is a center not recieving some form of help from a gaurd. Whether it is a chip block or a straight up double team. I am by no means suggesting the Bills take Mack late in the first or with their second pick. I would rather see a true gaurd in the second like Duke Robinson(who the Bills had the Oline coach scout at his proday last week).
-
He is very good player. Watched Bama play a few times and that Oline looked stout. Dont really know what happened in the Bowl Game. Buffalo has a history of looking down south here for lineman. Jennings, Williams, and Peters come to mind. This kid would be a great pick in third. Pair him with Duke Robinson in the second you would be set for years at two interior positions.

If Lynch is Suspended for 4 games, what now?
atlbillsfan1975 replied to billsfreak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not so much worried about spelling Jackson. It will be the begining of the season. He should have fairly fresh legs. Bills will know what kind of suspension Lynch has way before preseason. So they will know not to run Freddy to much in preseason games. I am more worried about Lynch getting ready for r/t action. Practice and even preseason games dont simulate a reg season game. If it was to be four games that is a big curve to be behind the rest of the guys on the field. In then end we are worrying about something that hasn't happened yet. If it turns out to be 1-2 games then its not really an issue at all. And you could always pick up a vet running back for preseason/ first part of reg season to be your number 2 after the draft. Then moves to three when lynch returns -
Just because a guy is a first round pick doesn't mean he is automatically going to be a great player(we as well as anyone should know that). The list goes on and on both ways as far as first round busts and mid to late round stars that are in the league. The truly good longterm succesfull franchise know how to spot mid round guys 3-5 that will develope into starters. And yeah they dont miss on first or second rounders either.

atlbillsfan1975 replied to billsfreak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe the Bills start 1-5 then go on a tear and win 9 out of last 10? Just kidding. There is no solution if Lynch gets suspended for the first 4 games. You can't find a good rb for 4 games. so you lean on Fred. It is the begining of the season so he should have fresh legs. Then once Marshawn comes back, you work him in. Fred gets to rest some middle of the season and he is ready for playoff push. Lets just pray Freddy doesn't get injuried in preseason the The Bills would really be FUBARD. Can a player practice with the team while he is serving his suspension? Just wondering so Lynch is not to out of shape once he does come back. We all saw what Peters looked like last year after missing a month of preseason. -

Ok first of all Hangartner was a backup. But was so on a very very good OLine. He was not resigned because the Panthers have a lot of money spent of Oline. Everyone in Carolina was sad to see him go. As far as the other LG goes, pretty much all the guys that were there two weeks ago are still there in FA. Simmons, Goff, etc.. have you seen any real signs in the last week? Teams are waiting out these guys. The price drops everyday just a little bit more. The Bills will pick up another vet LG and probably a LB. Then address other areas thru the draft. DE and more Oline help. I think the Bills are trying. -
I`m thinking Scheffler
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Buffaloed in Pa's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
With all these down the field weapons, should we have some underneath guys? Just saying, maybe Bills dont pick him up and the stay with Fine. You got two big time recievers in Evans and T.O. now who can stretch the field and occupy the corners and FS. You got Reed who is a good midrange guy. I know Fine isn't very flashy, but when given a chance last year he had some nice catches/games. If they got Scheffler i would not be upset by any means but would not want to give up more then a fourth for him as it stands now. still have holes on Oline, LB, and Dline that must be addressed. And then taking a T.E in the fourth is right back where you are now with Fine.
