Good breakdown of Demetrius Bell
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Excelently said. Also Ellis as DE might have progressed some too. Not saying he is the answer. But most third rounders could take a year to develope and transition to the speed of the pros. -
The anology is if you spend to much money on anything today it will prohibit you from what you can buy tomorrow. If you dont understand that then you are probably one of the guys who has gotten our country in the mess it is in. In your equation you did there you forgot to mention salary cap. But nice try. Also in regards to Philly. Yes they just might pay him the money. They realize the window is closing on their opportunity to win a SB. McNabb and Westbrook are not getting any younger. Neither is Jim Johnson. So if they feel like a 'proven' LT is the last piece they just might bite on the 1 and 3 rounders for him. They have two first rounders.
-
Watched him play his whole career here in Atl. Was the fastest guy on the field his first three years in the league. But had absolutly zero ability to read defenses. The plays were Mike drops back looks around for 2 seconds then takes off if his first reciever isn't open. He started to slow down his last year in the league. Guy has a cannon for an arm and jets for feet and rocks for a brain. J.P Lossman the second.

Good breakdown of Demetrius Bell
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bell will probably develope into the starting RT in 2010. His strength seemed to be the only problem. And with news comming out of the Bills camp that he is getting stronger. Only matter of time -
I think you are going to see the Falcon sgo heavy defense in the draft. They need a DT linebacker help and safety help. Yes they do need a TE but i just don't see Dimitrof taking a TE over those other very big areas of need. ATL lost Grady, Brooking, and Malloy. They dont have a good TE but do have a good rb and good wrs and a better then average Oline. They are struggling on defense. If it wasn't for Dcord, VanGorder, they would have been horrible.
-
Thats fine i will except that but none of those players you listed held out, or recieved anywhere near the amount Peters is asking for. Evans got the most and that was for 9 a year. And those guys handled themselfs the right way. I said Peters could get fat and happy just like taking a tackle in the draft could turn out to be average. But Peters did show up last year out of shape and had the worse year sack wise over any other starting LT. But you are right. Agree to disagree. 'San Diego means whales vagina.'
-
Buts its not that simple. The money you have to pay Peters would stop you from being able to acquire and/or keep talent in the future. Do you understand that? The number 11 pick would be about 1/5 the cost of Peters. And sure there is some risk there. But there is also some risk that once Peters gets his paycheck, he will become fat and happy. And turn into an average at best LT, getting paid like the best. I'll personally take my chances with the rookie. And i base that solely on how Peters has conducted himself over the last year.
-
I will take an average tackle that is a good team guy. Over an overrated devisive LT any day. Sorry but Peters has turned into his own worst enemy. Do you think he is worth 11.5 million a year??? And are you ready for the day when his contract will proclude you from being able to sign another one of your players??? Maybe McKelvin or Lynch in a few years??? Sorry but the deal Peters wants the Bills can't give. If you think that is being cheap, just remember that the next time your kids come to you for money, and you dont have it. Or when you go out car shopping and really want the BMW but it would cause you to not be able to have other things in your life. Like maybe insurance or pay for your mortgage. Sorry but Ralph isn't being cheap here.

I think there will be atleast two teams. Detroit and Philly. Graham is reporting in the other thread that he thinks a first and a third could be traded for Peters. If this is the case then Bills have all the flexibilty to make the Scheffler trade a reality. But will take a 3rd and a 5th.Which would work out great. Get a starter ready TE with a third. Fith rounders are a crap shoot and usually take two years to develope into a true starter if ever. There are a few exceptions to that.
-
No. LT would be a bigger need then a DTor TE in the first. You would have to take an oline man in the first. Definetly not a TE. A TE is more or less a luxury item. It would be a pick if you felt like that was the last piece to the puzzle. Bills are missing a few bigger pieces. Now what i would do is trade your third rounder (from Peters trade)and a fith for Schefler. 1a-Best LT-Oher 1b-Best OLB,DE,orDT-Mathews,Ayer, or Jerry 2-Interior Olineman-Robinson 3-Best OLB orDE left on the board and which ever you didn't take in the first. 3b-trade that pick and 5th for Schefler. 4-probably go for a 'raw' Safety prospect here. Bryan Scott is ok but definetly not the longterm solution 6and7- best players left. Thats what i would like to see. But all of this is contingent upon the Bills getting the trade done soon for Peters. So they could pull of the Schefler trade.

I think we started to see the Colts decline last year. Not to mention Dungy leaving. I think he saw that the end was near for them. Jags are a mess. They do not have a qb. Oline is suspect. Tayler left. Matt Jones wasn't an integral part but still was a wasted first rounder. There D is still good but isn't what it was with Stroud in the middle. That leaves Tennesse. Very good defense, but once again they lost Haynesworth. Kerry Collins is stable but one good hit away from retirement. They have a very very pedestrian Offense. Mix all that together and i think the Texans have a very nice shot at the division. A lot does depend on Schaubb stepping up. I got to watch him here in Atlanta when he played for Vick. The guy seemed to have it all. This could be the season he breaks out. The have a very good defensive front seven. They do need help on the Oline, and some secondary issues. But this coul dbe the season they make the playoffs finally. Id love to see them make it and Dallas sit home again. Not as much as i want Buffalo in it.
-
good for him. I like what the Texans are doing actually. Very quietly putting together a nice team. I would not be surprised if those guys won the AFC south. I know i will get blasted for that. But who thought the Cards were gonna be in the SB?
-
San Jose i think you are right on the money you go tackle with number 11. And then you let the guy play. Throw him to the wolfs. No stop gap necessary.
-
So who is your starting LT? A player from the second round? If you trade Peters you can not allow yourself the luxury of TE in the first. You have to make one of those two picks in the first a tackle. Then with your other one go defense. In the second go back to interior oline. Then in the third go with more D and a TE there if you want.

Cleo Lemons is awesome. I love me some Lemons.

Positional needs in draft
atlbillsfan1975 replied to ieatcrayonz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you have some depth in Chambers. It also sounds like Bell is going to see a lot of action in preseason. And could make the final roster as depth if he performs well. But you are 100% correct in the fact the Bills need to spend a high pick(round 2) on an interior guy. And if Peters is dealt then round one could be used for a tackle. You then got to go OLB with your other first, from Peters trade. Then go Dline in third. Trade the other third rounder (from Peters trade) and a fith for Scheffler. Fourth pick up a safety to develope for a year and play STs.Sixth and Seventh take best guys available. -
Not-really-news Bills News... George Wilson re-signed
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Fingon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Isn't Wilson the player that changed positions to help the team in 2007. Yes it also ment he had a better shot at making the team. But he was receptive to the request of the coaching staff. In the first game he started he went out on Monday night against Dallas and played his butt off. Picked Romo off for a T.D. Now it doesn't mean he is the second comming of Ronnie Lott, which he obviously isn't. But if Peters had one once of his character he would be the best football player in the league. -
Positional needs in draft
atlbillsfan1975 replied to ieatcrayonz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its a combo of both i think. Like you said the Bills have four 'need' areas. Oline LB Dline and TE. Depending on who is available when you pick you take the best guy for that area/which one(s) is the most pressing. Then you can in the mid to later rounds take a guy that is not at a need positon necessarly if you think he has a lot of potential/best available . He could one day be a starter, is just raw. In the mean time he either contributes on ST or play on the practice squad. -
I hear ya man. I was actually on my bachelor party in Vegas. We had an all night epic BlackJack game going. WE had lost track of time. I looked up just at the right time to see that not only the draft was on but the Bills were picking. We had sat down at 1130 the night before to "play just a couple" hands. I am by no means a big gambler, but me and my two friends and cousin had maybe one of the funniest nights of my life. Then when they drafted Whitner i was like huh? I quickly proceeded defend the pick to the t.v when Mel and his hair tore it apart. That was my clue it was time to go get a nap.

That is exactly my point. Turn the negative Peters situation into three starters next year. God knows we need an upgrade of talent in more then one position. I would love to have a LT with Peters talent but w/o his attitude. Saying that i am not 100% sold on Andre Smith. Yes i think he has the talent, but am a little concerned about his thought process. For me i like the kid Oher. Then Robinson in the second. You would have a very young talented Oline for years. With Bell possibly developing into your RT of the future. You already have Butler who when healthy is good. And i think Hangartner will be very solid and a big upgrade over what we watched last year. The Peters trade gives the flexibility to pick up the pass catching TE Scheffler with your extra third. Might have to throw in a fith this year. But i would be ok with that. And it would leave you your second first round pick and your third round pick to upgrade the D. This too me would be a perfect scenario. I just wonder what Peters has to say before people will understand he doesn't like it in Buffalo. Maybe when he pulls a 'Willis' and shoots his mouth off about Toronto.

Cutler's new offensive coordinator
atlbillsfan1975 replied to Peter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched him play at Vandy. And was always like why is this kid at this school. Nothing against Vandy accademically, it is be far the best school in the confrnce. But Vandy is by no means where great football players usually come from. That is starting to change under the new coach. But this story makes a lot more sense, as to why he ended up there. Him in Chicago is gonna be fun. I predict you have more drama their then we see in Buffalo with Owens. Uhrlacher gave him a less then warm welcome. Orton had already won over the guys on the team. Now Cutler and his whinny ways are going to have a struggle fitting in. But who knows maybe Uhrlacher sits him down at some point and tells him men play this game not little girls. Shut up and play football and everyone will like you. Cutler doesn't remind me of a Jim McMahon type of guy. And that is the last qb the Bears had that the fans there loved. The minute he starts getting booed i will wait to see his reaction. -
You probably arent going to get more then that. Just saying. And the extra third would help, maybe you could send it and a later pick to Denver for the TE Scheffler. Whe i say suits me just fine is because i like it a lot better then the alternative. Peters sitting out another whole offseason. Showing up at some point out of shape and a waste. Sounds more and more like he doesn't want to be in Buffalo. Get the most you can get for him. And i say get it done sooner rather then later. That way you can start to plan your draft better. Also maybe pull of the above mentioned trade. What you want and what you can have are two different things. And that is your opinion about it being the second most important position on the field. Cards made it to the Super Bowl this year with Gandy. Yeah he did get worked in the SB but i think all of us here would settle for a playoff apperance sometime this decade.
-
Its only a massive hole if they dont address it in the draft properly. Plus i also am drinking the Kool Aide about Bell. I think he migh tbe the mystery piece. The Bills will definetly draft an offesive lineman in the first round or two.
-
I am not saying he is the second comming of Christ. But Tim did break the T.O signing on here i think about a half hour before anyone else. So the guy does have some cred. We aren't getting both Phillys firsts, unless they dont want them because of monetary reasons. Which i cant believe that is the case. Phillys first pick in round one and then there third would suit me just fine. You would then have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. Could get 3 starters. With two of them being immediate impact type players. And two more that could be quality depth developing into starters for next year.
