  1. So many guys on here are quick to dismiss Bell as a possible starter on next years Oline. However many of you guys are the same ones saying we cant loose Peters. Now i dont want to trade Peters really, but i also am very concerned about another hold out. I think Bell could be ready to play LG or RT. I would say play him at RT this year and move Walker to LT. Walker seemed to do pretty good last year while Peters was missing the first few games. Let Bell play RT this year then move him to LT next year. I guess at the end of the day if the Bills tell me he is ready, then i will take there word on it. They just got done doing the same thing with Peters a few years ago. Maybe just maybe its why they drafted Bell last year. Knowing all along Peters was going to be a problem getting locked up to a new deal. Bell had little playing time in college, he was seen as a very good athlete with very good footwork. Bell just needed to add some more strength and more knowledge of the position. Maybe he has done some of that this past year. Once again the coaches would know this a lot better then us. Your thoughts???
  2. Does he have a contract? He probably would not be there even if he did. Nothing about him screams team player. Or staying in shape. He is sitting on his butt eating Ben and Jerrys and pork rinds. He will only be back once he gets hungry for great Pizza and wings
  3. When i watch Skip i think about what Owens said about Garcia all those years ago.'He is gay', 'no really he is'.
  4. The Bills MUST get the Peters situation resolved before the draft. If they dont then you are drafting blindly. Not knowing if you will or wont have a LT. If he is gone then you could definetly take Oher here. If Peters stays then take Robinson in the second. You would have a very good young line. With your possible replacement right tackle waiting in the wings in Bell.
  5. That is your way of looking at it. But i would argue it was that they had players in place under longer contracts and his was up. Carolina could not pay him when his contract came up. So they had to let him go. Just like what happened to Greer here in Buffalo. Bills couldn't pay three corners starter money. When the Bills drafted McKelvin last year it signaled Greers end was near. Just like in Carolina when they drafted Khalil last year in the second. We can agree to disagree about this. But the season will tell. How well does Hangartner do this year, and the line as a whole. If they improve then i am right. If he turns out to be worse then what the Bills had then you are right. But just saying he is a back up is a very simplistic way of looking at it.
  6. Hangartner was a back up, who got to show his talents. Carolina could not afford to pay him because they have a lot of money tied up on the line. So another team that needs a starter pays him. He produces at a starters level this year. It happens all the time in the NFL guys. Micheal Turner last year is a very good example. Sorry if you cant see how it works. But it does work.
  7. Why do you think the Bills would have to give a third? There have been trades this offseason which seem to show he would not be valued at that. Denver has already made it known they want to trade him because he doesn't fit into their new system. He is a good pass catching TE but has a history of being injured a lot. Personally id go for a fith. Maybe a fourth. But would not use a pick for trade or draft in the first 3 rounds for a TE. Not this year.
  8. I think the Bills go D in the first. The two biggest signings came on Offense. Owens and Hangartner. I would love to see the Bills take the best gaurd in the second. Might be the best true gaurd taken at that point. Duke Robinson sounds like a solid to great gaurd for years.
  9. Remember last year. The first 3 picks were already done or working on contracts weeks before the draft. The NFL went irrate and said that would not happen again. But i would not be surprised if teams were doing the same thing, but just not makeing it official or widely known to the media. Stafford is the next Joey Harrington if he ends up in Detroit. And i am saying that as a UGA fan. Any QB that goes there will fail misserably until they fix that horrible Oline. But hey thats been Buffalos problem for years too.
  10. None of those guys (Goff, Simmons, or June) are on anyone elses roster either. Its just like an other object for sale. I know that sounds callous, because we are talking about humans. But the longer something sits available, the more affordable it becomes. And i am sure those guys have recieved offers from some teams. And are maybe hoping a better offer will come in. Chances are it wont and then they will accept the best one they can get. But not before calling all the teams interested in them and giving them an update. The Bills will have a chance to sign anyone of those guys if they want them. Hangartner isn't a backup he is a starter now for us. He proved in the action he saw last year he was capable of playing everydown. Its a very similar scenerio to Micheal Turner . He was a back up at S.D. for Thomlinson. So do you think he isn't any good? Atlanta saw enough of him to know he was a starter, but stuck behind another player that was very good too. Once Turner got his chance he played great. Florence is not a replacement for Greer. People who think that are totally off base. Florence is a nickel back. McKelvin replaces Greer. And Florence will be very good vetran depth and experience in the secondary. And he was picked up for relatively cheap too.
  11. Exactly. We need to all get over Jauron being back. He is the coach and we need to cheer for the team. Hopefully the teams wins and makes the playoffs. If they dont then next offseason the Bills get a new coach. But crying about it now is pointless. Kind of like our new President. If your guy didn't get elected, what, you going to hope the new guy does a terrible job? How does that help you? or the country? Some peoples short sightedness amazes me.
  12. He has already shown he will hold out. In theory your post sounds good but in reality it cant happen . Either you rework his deal or trade him. Those are the teams two options at this point.
  13. To use your analogy; if that T.V was so expensive it stoped you from being able to buy a nice comfortable couch to watch the T.V on, would you still do it? And i am by no means being a smart ass. But i think you have to look at the longterm consequences/returns of doing the deal with Peters. If he had gone about this the right way. And played at a high level the last two years. And not held out. Then i would be right there with ya. But he hasn't and i am not.
  14. The point is really do you want to tie up that much money in Peters. And could it end up hampering you for years to come. Yes he has shown he CAN be great, but he has also shown he is a huge negative force. And what happens if you sign him to the mega deal he wants. Are you 100% positive he will play at the highest most motivated level? And if you are please tell me what you are basing that assumption on. And dont bring up other players. Just tell me what about Peters past shows you he will be a happy content camper and play out that contract w/o a peep. Personally if you could get a first for him i would do it. There has been many more LT panning out lately then not. You could get a good to great LT with your 1st pick in the draft and then go after another impact player with your other first later. And the two salaries of those firsts would not equal Peters one that he wants now. Something about Peters is very unsettling to me. He seems to have money written all over him. Thats not a bad thing, but a guy who doesn't love the game, and like to compete, is very easy to become complascent once he has the money.
  15. I personally would like a guy that has played some in the NFL and shown he can perform. And just because he was a back up last year doesn't always mean a guy is a scrub. The Falcons were able to get Micheal Turner last year from S.D. And he turned out to be pretty damn good. He had shown when given the opportunity he could perform while in S.D and when he became a free agent his current team could not afford to carry that much payroll at the same position. So he signed elsewhere. Exactly what happened here. Carolina could not afford to have that much money tied up in the Oline so they had to let Hangartner get paid elsewhere.
  16. Left gaurd i would address in the draft. Probably with the second pick. On defense i agree the Bills need another 'impact' player. At 11 this gets addressed. You need two players in the front seven. This must be addressed with your first and third pick. It is great to have 'impact' players all over the field but that usually doesn't happen .Instead have one at each 'level' and then surround them with very solid starters. I want to think that maybe Bell, McCargo, Ellis, Johnson, and Fine can be those solid starters we need from them. Atleast give them playing time this year, and then next year decide if you need to go after some FAs or pick guys up in the draft for those positions. You can not get every need filled in one off season with great impact players.
  17. In response to those guys i mentioned everyone of them but McCargo is going into their second year. So this is the year they should see the field a lot. Then you can really tell what they have. McCargo is a big mystery to me too. 07 was decent, made some nice plays. Then 08 was back problems and butted heads w Dline coach i guess or hoping. Johnson played great his senior year at Kentucky. Had numbers in catches and yards comprable to some of the guys mentioned as 1st rounders this year. And once Hardy got hurt and he saw time near the end of the season he had some nice games. I think that is why the optimism is there on him. He had 60 catches his senior year for over 1000 yds with 13 tds. Last year for the Bills he had 10 catches for 100 yds and 2 tds. I will take a wr from the SEC with those numbers over and Big 12 wr with similar numbers. I dont think they even play D out there. Its like a computer game. Is that how Madden is? j/k.
  18. I hope and i pray you are kidding about the Madden remark. No body is a star in the NFL till they make plays.
  19. I definetly believe the Bills need to add help in the draft. I would go D in the first, Oline in the second and then Oline or Dfront 7 in the third depending on other two rounds. I think we have some of the pieces in house to be successful. but need to add a few good drafts picks and some depth guys in other areas. Then hope the young guys can step up and develope into true starters.
  20. Astro. Let me just tell you if Southerland is there in the 7th round this kid is a gamer. I have not seen a fullback block like him in a longtime. Night and day for UGAs ground game last year when he was in there. And very good at passblocking as well. If the Bills really want a fullback he is a stud. Did get dinged up some his senior year. But watched him play against SEC defensive front sevens and was great.
  21. Just a question, But could the Bills possibly have some of the answers to the needs in house already? Bell= Starting on Oline this year. Ellis= DE. Fine=T.E Johnson= WR McCargo= DT. Now i know these guys are young but most of them have shown some flashes. This is not me saying they are the answer to every need. And i will say the Bills need to add players on Oline and the D front seven through the draft. I am just asking.
  22. Before the days of FA teams built through the draft. And then Trades. This years draft has a lot of guys in areas the Bills need help. DE, Interior Olinemen, and LBs. T.E to me is an issue i dont think/hope the bills address in FA or in the draft. I personally think you have very good/great WRs in Evans and Owens. These two guys will stretch the field and command attention. This will leave Reed and Fine open underneath. I know Fine/Reed aren't going to catch a seem route and go for 50 yds. But they will be free to p/u 7-10yds. I also like to see how Steve Johnson progress' this year. Owens is going to help this offense a lot. The Bills just need to address the LG spot in the second or third. In the First go defense. Sorry but dont see the glum and doom of the Owens signing.
  23. Wide reciever is the one position the field that is tide to so many other variables. Just look at Detriot. For years they were picking the best wide out in the draft, but neglected the Oline and QB. A great Oline and a great QB will make any three wideouts look very good. Heck N.E won all three of their superbowls with average to good wide outs. But they had a great Oline and a great QB. And many those years were using average RBs.
