  2. Think about the playoff drought. I wasn't impressed with the Gregg Williams/Jerry Gray blitz happy scheme. It was great at bullying teams vulnerable to blitzing. But if a team was good at blitz pickup, and if their QB (Tom Brady) got the ball out quickly, blitzing isn't really what you want to do. I'd say our best drought era defensive coaching came during Doug Marrone's time as HC. Marrone himself wasn't much of a coach, but he sure knew how to pick good defensive coordinators. Pettine's defense was good against the pass but below-average against the run. A good defense overall. Schwartz's defense was also good against the pass, and noticeably better than Pettine's against the run. If I was hiring a defensive coordinator, I'd take either of those two over Sean McDermott. Why? Because Sean McDermott is a very good DC a lot of the time. But other times, he's a terrible DC (soft zone/prevent defense). Pettine and Schwartz provided greater consistency in their efforts, rather than McDermott's binary oscillation between very good and completely terrible. As for offensive coordinators: during the drought, the only OC who accomplished much was Chan Gailey. Gailey was the anti-Marrone: he was a good coach himself, but terrible at hiring defensive coordinators (Dave Wannestadt). Like the OP, I credit Gailey for doing a great job of setting Fitzpatrick up for success. Ted Marchibroda left the team in the early '90s. I think of all the OCs we've had since then. The two which stand out are Gailey and Daboll, if your goal is to build around a passing QB. And Greg Roman, if you want to build your offense around a running QB. If I could cherry pick from the playoff drought, I'd take Gailey as OC and Pettine or Schwartz as DC. You're getting better performance at OC and DC than what we received this past season. Then, I'd take the OL we put in front of Tyrod Taylor. My RBs would be Fred Jackson and either Spiller or Lynch. I'd take the defensive cast we had while Pettine/Schwartz were around. Lee Evans is one of my WRs. I'd love to have Eric Moulds as my other WR, as long as I can get a reasonably young version of him. If not, I'd take Stevie Johnson as a poor man's Moulds. The playoff drought teams didn't exactly have a lot of great players at WR. But put Josh Allen in at QB, and the team I just described would be a very serious contender for the Super Bowl.
  3. The only reliable way is to use DAZN and purchase gamepass. Have been here (Taiwan) for almost two decades and the only way to ensure that you get anything close to a comfortable viewing experience is via gamepass. This annoys me greatly, but it is what it is.
  4. Campbell is getting old. Ngakoue is the most logical choice, and is under the cap if we want to do it.
  5. Today
  6. My only hope for Von is he actually looked okay in the playoffs, the stats don't show it but he got pressure and looked like he finally had his legs under him, I'm still not sure what to expect of him but it wouldn't shock me to see the Von qe saw pre injury. Which obviously changes everything. And Beane is on record saying Groot had a foot problem and they gave him his 5th year with no hesitation really AJ is coming off his best season as a pro and we got him back for a fair deal imo If them 3 do some damage, we still have Kingsley and the rookie Solomon to round out the rotation
  7. oh yea , i completely agree, i guess I was really talking my expectations for this team. I think they’re a SB winner or the year is a failure. I don't see many scenarios where McBeane isn't safe going into 2025, maybe if they're just awful , under 7 wins but I still think they're safe, 2nd best reord out of 32 teams since 2020 tends to do that
  8. Hmm. Take a guy like Alex Smith. He was a reasonably good QB for the 49ers. A respectable starter. Then he found his way to Kansas City. In his last year with the Chiefs, he averaged 8.0 yards per attempt. That's better than normal for Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers. Did Smith suddenly start playing a lot better than he had with the 49ers? Well, maybe. But if he did, it didn't last long. In his next two years, he was QB for Football Team. His yards per attempt was 6.6, then 6.3. Another, perhaps more likely explanation was that everything in KC was set up for the QB to look good. Great offensive coaching, in the form of Andy Reid. Scheming guys open, so that the QB has ridiculously easy throws. One of the top three TEs ever, in the form of Kelce. Good overall offensive supporting cast. Pat Mahomes inherited all that when he became the starting QB for the Chiefs. Compare that to Josh Allen. The offensive line he had his rookie year may well have been the very worst in franchise history. His two starting WRs were even worse than the OL: Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes. For most of his career, his OL has been decent at best. In the most recent playoff loss to the Chiefs, Bills receivers had 160 yards of dropped passes. The last time he had an OC who schemed guys open, Daboll hadn't yet sat down with the NY Giants. Then there's the fact that Allen's defense has never generated more than 2 stops in a postseason game against the Chiefs or the Bengals. Several other defenses have generated 6 or even 7 stops in postseason games against the Chiefs. The Chiefs have done everything they could to set Mahomes up to succeed. The Bills have done a lot to set Allen up to fail: dropped passes, failing to scheme guys open, and a defensive collapse literally every postseason game against the Chiefs or Bengals. Despite all this, Allen has kept the postseason games against the Chiefs close. Take Pat Mahomes away from the Chiefs and give them Alex Smith. Take Josh Allen away from the Bills, and give us another Alex Smith. You do that, and the Chiefs are steamrolling the Bills in the playoffs. It's not remotely close at all.
  9. If it worked we'd all be singing his praises because he realized we were too beat up at linebacker to stop the Chiefs offense. The real limitations being a defensive minded head coach was not stopping that ridiculous low percentage shot play call by Brady to Shakir on 2nd and 9 coming out of the two minute warning imo. An offensive minded coach wouldn't have approved of that stupid play call given the situation in the game. That play call haunts me even more than 13 seconds.
  10. That 40 time is from 2018. He's not running a 4.37 in 2024. He doesn't play fast. And that 40 time is 5/100ths of a second from Chase Claypool's 2020 40 time, 18/100ths faster than Justin Shorter's 2023 40 time, and 1/100th second faster than Tyrell Shavers' 2023 40 time. Hell-- Mack Hollins ran a 4.53 in 2019. Obviously, Shorter, and Shavers have an uphill battle to get onto the 53, and don't have a single regular season snap to show for themselves. But do you know what Claypool, and Hollins, (not to mention KJ Hamler, Andy Isabella, and Curtis Samuel) all have in common? They ALL have a higher completion percentage, and lower drop rate than Marquez Valdez-Scantling. And all with far worse quarterbacks throwing them the ball. Here's a link to his 2023 highlight reel. (Bear in mind-- this is a highlight reel, from a season in which he had a 50% completion percentage, and a 7% drop rate). In some of those catches, he's wide open in the end zone. But, there isn't a single reception in the open field (save for one where the safety trips over his own feet), where he isn't covered, and not one route where he is lined up on the boundary. I'm not even making an argument that he won't make the 53. Going into TC, I would put him just behind Hollins (for Hollins' ST play). But, then one has to ask the question: How many 6'4" WRs do they employ? And is MVS really that unique?
  11. Should it? The de-facto GM who drafted N'Keal Harry and Tyquan Thorton is gone On the other hand, Eliot Wolf, the current de-facto GM, was in NE as a consultant, then as Director of Scouting - unclear to me whether he was promoted before or after the draft. So there is that. #1 Wideout, No. #1 Receiver, Yes We have guys with potential, but they have to prove it.
  12. Funny, I know several people who've recently retired, and they seem to be loving life. You need to get out more.
  13. Could have had Belichick and Landry coordinating the D that night. Wouldn't have mattered.
  14. I see why the prospective threesome partner was only interested in her. I like her. Give her the full Trump Girl makeover - some hair extensions, lip fillers, maybe a boob job, definitely an AR-15, a puppy, and gravel pit - and you've got real VP material there.
  15. Figures that there’s still a portion of the fanbase that just can’t stop giving Poyer grief. Poyer has always told you what he thinks. Especially four years ago when people didn’t want to hear his opinions. He’s also said many times that he wanted to play somewhere warm without state income tax. He’s been nothing but a straight shooter so when he says something he means it.
  16. If the Bills had 3 less sacks in that Commanders game which with 6 sacks seems like a pretty "normal" "good" game then the Bills are still tied for 5th at 51 sacks. So your thesis that the Bills ranking is that inflated by one 9 sack game is just not holding up. Looking at the Bills sack by game it doesn't really look like the Bills just "fattened up" all that much on just one game. In fact looking at sacks per-game from games 1-8 and 9-17 while there is a better rate in the first 8 weeks it is not as dramatic as fans may think. Sacks from weeks 1-8 averaged the Bills averaged 3.5 sacks a game. From weeks 9-17 the Bills averaged 2.9 sacks per game. A 3.5 sack per game pace over 17 games a season would have been 59.5 sacks which would have been right around the lead league with Baltimore who had 60 sacks. A 2.9 sack per game sack per game pace is good for 49 sacks which would have been tied with the Browns for 6th still a very strong pace over the last 9 games of the season. The Bills basically went from a top 2 sack rate in weeks 1-8 down to a top 6 sack rate in weeks 9-17. A sack rate just outside the top 5 is still a very good sack rate and dam near elite. I think the difference was really just Floyd slowed down. Floyd had 6.5 sacks in weeks 1-8 vs. just 4 in weeks 9-17 which while not tragically dramatic is still significant. But what I really think showed how less effective Floyd was performing was Floyd's QB hits also went down dramatically from 12 in the first 8 weeks to just 7 on the back 9. Had Floyd been more consistent the gap in sacks and pass rush performance would have narrowed. Bills sack totals listed for visual reference. 3 0 9 4 5 3 1 3 1 4 6 2 1 3 5 3 1
  17. Schopp lost 30lbs. There’s a newspaper? Local TV news need all the time they can to give weather reports.
  18. This! I love what Joe Brady called against the Chiefs and Cowboys with the run game. My take is there will be a learning curve with the new faces. Although a two-TE offense with Josh under center with play action could be the best thing this offense has seen in a while. Knox, Kincade, and Shakir will do fine moving the chains, and that new RB Davis will help punch it in. Good things!
  19. I brought this up in my postalready. McDermott really had very little hand in us reaching the playoffs in 2017. In the two years before he got here, Taylor went 7-6 and 7-8. In 2017 Taylor went 8-6. We finished 9-7 which wasn't any better than Marrone did with Kyle Orton. Cincinnati deserves more credit for getting us into the playoffs. If you want to celebrate the second 9-7 season in 4 years as evidence that McDermott is great, go ahead, but I won't. This is my plan for us to win a Super Bowl. Ideally Burrow is out of the picture too in whatever way possible. Also not sure we'd match up to SF, but at least that isn't proven.
  20. My wife and I are looking into spending lots of time in Southeast Asia in the near future. Looking at the pros and cons- my only con so far is watching Bills games. Do any of you guys/gals live in the area or have experience watching games there? Is it possible to have YTtv and buy the package and use a vpn? Are games broadcast on any cable? I’d love to hear some discussion and get some advice on this.
  21. Serious golfers huh? I think it's a tremendous sport but I'm terrible
  22. Rex Ryan would have him averaging 50 points a game while the defense gave up 60 Chan Gailey would somehow get a pro bowl season out of him with a WR unit of Hollins, Isabella and Claypool but also have atrocious defenses. Dick Jauron would have Allen handing it off on nearly every snap which the exception of a few check downs to Gilliam and Morris. Wade Phillips would have them playing like contenders as Allen had an MVP caliber season until he decided to start Trubisky in Week 18 during mop up and be so impressed that he started him in the playoffs Marrone left a bad taste in everyone's mouth by walking out, but having them the verge of the playoffs with Kyle Orton as the QB was an impressive feat. If that unit had Allen, they are in the playoffs. I even think they would have made it in with Tyrod Taylor in his 2015-16 form.
