They say "Never meet your heroes" - and then there is Josh Allen...
0017 replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
I was so worried about seeing Allen on Wednesday I could hardly sleep on Tuesday, only because I kept thinking what if he’s closed off and cold to us, I didn’t want to ruin how much my family absolutely loves Josh. But afterwards as a family all we could do was talk about how awesome the whole experience was!! I’m so proud to be a Bills fan and have that guy as our QB1!! -
The NFLPA Is Becoming A Sham Organization

Firstly, the Executive Director of any labor union should always publicly cite any wrongdoing or bad faith tactics by management. He does this by bringing the wrongdoing to light and making it a part of the public record so that it can be leveraged when necessary in litigation or as a bargaining chip. His job is to police and call out these transgressions, not sweep them under the rug. Not only did Lloyd Howell not do this but he also failed to represent the findings in an accurate way. In this regard, he abdicated his two most fundamental duties. This does not mean that Howell should disturb labor peace. It does not mean he should overplay the issue. It does not mean that he should make a mountain out of molehill. But Howell was not doing his job and his non-actions violated his duty to the thousands of players he represents. On a different subject, the biggest unresolved issue in the current NFL CBA is guaranteed contracts. Ultimately like EVERY OTHER MAJOR NORTH AMERICAN PROFESSIONAL SPORTS LEAGUE, the NFL should have guaranteed contracts. Especially because these players have a much higher rate of catastrophic injuries and also shorter careers. They also have a higher incidence of post-career debilitating conditions. Their contracts should be fully guaranteed. To those saying that it can't be done, or that doing it would cause an untenable situation for owners, that's untrue. Already the percentage of guaranteed money in NFL contracts (for both veterans and rookies) has been increasing over the years. 1st round draft picks now have fully guaranteed contracts and I believe it won't be long until all rookie contracts are guaranteed. The current impasse with this year's 2nd round picks is because of this very issue. Ultimately I see all NFL contracts being fully guaranteed and this is being achieved incrementally, allowing the owners to moderate and mitigate the effects of those guarantees. The NFL owners are purposely dragging their feet (colluding) on this issue because any money saved now is more money later on via the maturation of their investments. It's the same reason that legacy industry leaders drag their feet on those new technologies which threaten their primacy... to delay the inevitable in the name of squeezing a few more million/billion dollars until they can no longer hold back the prevailing industry tide. When all guarantees are fully guaranteed there will be foreseen and unforeseen consequences such as smaller contracts, shorter contracts, less dumping of injured players (if you have to pay them, you might as well rehab them), less dead money, etc. I think ultimately players will have to decide whether they want to trade the potential for higher earnings in exchange for income certainty.. smaller but guaranteed sums of money. To that tradeoff I refer back to the saying, "one in the hand is worth two in the bush." -

Not denying there’s some questionable things in that video, but plenty league darlings have seen a lot favored their way. The only one I have a problem with is the “Do Over” in the AFC Championship against the Bengals. They failed to covert the third down, got another crack and converted. In the bigger picture of things, it didn’t matter. They didn’t score on the same drive and the Bengals had two opportunities to break the deadlock of 20-20. Irrespective if it mattered on the actual outcome, the problem is we’ve seen clock malfunctions; unsynchronized clocks or play clocks not even being started and the game wasn’t paused or a down repeated several times in history. The fact it was in the biggest game at that period of the season for both teams is where it’s sour. Not just those teams but the conference championships are the second biggest game/s on the season schedule. Just me?

I sometimes think about how those communist bastards in the Netherlands wouldn’t demolish a historic bridge to allow Jeff Bezos’ yacht to pass through. I mean, how many free school lunches would it have cost to demolish the bridge and then rebuild it so a billionaire’s yacht could get through? I’m sure the benefits would have eventually trickled down. Maybe a poor hungry kid would have found a neat rock that used to be part of the bridge!

Spagnoulo telling Burrow he’s the second best qb in the league was interesting.
-
send it to npr. you might win their Don Pardo voice on your answering machine or some NPR branded wine.
-
Joe Burrow is Christian Bale in "American Psycho" and kind of dig it lol. He has no emotion of any kind like a psychopath 😂
-
Spare me the false outrage. Like seriously, read the room. You cut services, you get less production. If you think accountability is politics, then you should volunteer at a homeless veterans shelter. Decisions were made.
-
Exactly. Can’t have bridges or schools when some billionaire’s third yacht is one gold-plated toilet short. Gotta slash services so they can gamble on DOGE and still squeeze out another offshore tax dodge.
-
Oh damn. Nice job. Been pondering this for a couple hours.
-
To be fair, those contracts needed to be cut because the oligarchs needed bigger tax cuts. I mean, do you expect these guys to get by with just a billion or two? They had to do a DOGE to squeeze out a couple more bucks.

Easy. Popped right into my head. Waikiki Beach "Y" "Key Key" "Beach" ?? Johnny, tell me what I just won.🤣

@Alphadawg7 and his post on Josh Allen is most certainly inspiring. Yet there are so many more A list celebrities who are just down to earth, good people. As many of you know, my all time favorite band is Rush. I have had the great fortune of meeting Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee. Alex: I was the webmaster of his former bar in Toronto, The Orbit Room on College Street. I had met Alex a few times at the bar, and we usually talked about website stuff. But then one night made me see first hand how hilarious Alex is. I got to the bar early one Saturday, around 7:30 pm. The house band, The Dexters, usually started around 9 pm. Alex would get up on stage and play blues, funk etc. Well on this evening, Alex was also there tending bar. He sees me, and shouts, "Hey Hoffman! Come here!" So I walk over to the bar, he pours 2 shots of tequila (his alcohol of choice besides wine), places one shot in front of me, and says "drink". I reply "Alex, that s-h-i-t will kill me". To which Alex replies, "then you can tell all your friends you died drinking with the guitarist of Rush! Drink!" So, I had a shot with Alex. He always had a kind word for anyone who approached him. If someone got too "Fan boy or fan girl", he politely excused himself from the conversation" Another Alex story, a bunch of Rush fans, about 12 of us in total, made it to The Orbit Room for the bar's 5th anniversary. We all brought gifts for Alex and his co owner Tim Notter. The bar made sure we had a stage side table for The Dexter's show, and a few of us was about 3 feet away from Alex as he was playing. Alex was sincerely moved with the gifts, and thanked us. We started to then thank him profusely for everything he had done in Rush. To which Alex said, "Alright! Stop saying thank you!" One of us then chirped, "Alright. F-u-c-k you". Alex looked at him, and started laughing uncontrollably, and said "That is the greatest thing a Rush fan ever said to me!" Geddy: My ex and I won a contest during the promo tour of Geddy's solo album, My Favourite Headache". In San Jose (I was living in the Bay Area at the time), Geddy's stop on the promo tour was to have breakfast with contest winners at a local San Jose hotel. So after winning, my ex and I had to be at the radio station at 5:30 am. All the contest winners assembled, and drove over to the Hotel De Anza in Downtown San Jose. They had the breakfast in an stately lobby (not the hotel lobby). There was an interview table set off to the side, and 16 of the winners got chairs and crowded around the interview table. More in the middle of the room there were two huge couches facing each other. My ex and I and another couple decided to sit on one of the couches, while the other couch which had it's back to the interview table was empty. The couches were about 5 feet from each other. So Lamont and Tonelli (The DJ's who were hosting the event) came in, and about 5 minutes later, Geddy walks in. Lamont and Tonelli said the interview table was in a not so good place, so they asked Geddy if he wanted to move where he sat for the interview. Geddy says "Sure. I'll sit on that couch over there". So for 4 hours, Geddy sat about 5 feet directly across from my ex and me. All the contest winners asked Geddy about Rush, and he freely answered each one of their questions. My ex then says to Geddy, "How is your daughter doing?" My ex has a son (another baby daddy) who is the same age as Geddy's daughter. Once Geddy heard my ex ask him about his daughter, he was locked into my ex and I, talking about everything except Rush. Geddy and I had a very nice conversation about his passion, baseball. Not only can the guy name every World Series winner since the early 1920's, he also knew the nicknames of those winning teams. No pictures with me and Alex. (I had one, but was lost in a move). Here's one with me, my ex, and Geddy. All in all, Geddy and Alex are just down to earth, good human beings. What's your story with celebs who are also down to earth good people?

A bit further left than I’d prefer but I don’t give a crap how he sits in a chair. Probably not electable to national office, but who knows? Politics in this country seems to swing wildly…with each presidential election, people choosing the opposite of the last guy.

“Biden’s doctor just pled the fifth!” - MAGA Cool. Meanwhile, Trump covered up an Epstein-linked pedo ring... but sure, let’s pretend the real scandal is a doctor not talking. 🤦♂️ You couldn’t be more desperate if you tried. And last Seriously, when do you stop embarrassing yourself and grow some self-respect?
