Diana Russini in The Athletic - draft and tanking idea
Coach Tuesday replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Russini has become a weekly Saturday read for me. RIP to Joel Buschbaum, Len Pasquarelli and Don Banks, I never get tired of weekly well-sourced scoops although they’re (literally) a dying breed. -

enough w the injuries excuses lol. this is pro football. every team has injuries an average unit performing average-ly vs a bad offense is not something to crow about -
Well, they did lose one of their two star defensive tackles for the next month. But the football gods conspired to make sure Burrow and Chase wouldn't play against them this week. That, combined with the rest of their schedule, makes the division pretty much out of reach.

A Few Thoughts about the Texans Game - Community Edition
Jerome007 replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
They aren't the Superbowl favorites we thought they were, but the positive here, NO team is this year! None! So while their chance to win it all is quite slim, its is NOT over. You fight and let the chips fall. We thought they were better. But who thought the Chiefs and Ravens would have 5 losses at this point? Yet their fanbases are more optimistic then ours. -

The Bills have an average defensive unit, I wish it were better (and it very likely would be if remotely healthy) but it is what it is And what it is is average, not terrible -
All ties today, lets go Buffalo!

Today would've been alot more fun had the bills won thursday (obviously). However, I can't shake the feeling that even if the bills get in the playoffs, they're just not gonna go anywhere. So I kinda just feel Meh about the outcomes of today's games. Obviously it'd be great to see the pats lose and kc lose though

Josh Allen should call the Offensive Plays
nedboy7 replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall
What I do know is that Brady should not be calling plays. Dude is cooked. That Houston game should be his end. -
You're not wrong. But it also might not be wrong that he'd be an upgrade on Brady. Unfortunately beggars can't be choosers at this point.

It's probably the first time the Texans OL has faced DT's lining up on the edge as well. I can't remember the last time the Bills couldn't even FIELD enough DE's to play a game. But that's been their reality lately. The Bills defensive front is not competitive with only Groot playing effectively in an 8-9 man rotation. -
Pretty disingenuous of you to hold against him years where he had Brady Quinn, Colt McCoy, Matt Moore, Chad Henne, and Matt Cassel at QB. Because those were LITERALLY his QB’s as an OC outside of Buffalo. The VERY FIRST time he was given a good QB (Allen), he produced a top offense.

look at his perspective this is the true genius of mcdermott and beane. look at how this defensive HC has conditioned our fanbase -
Is it overrated when your biggest offensive threat this year has been your superstar running back? You really think Daboll got hired as the Giants HC because he was a great play caller? Please. That was Schoen trying to bring in a coach he knows. Recreate the Bills method. And there are plenty of guys that have won a HC job being not the best play caller or someone who has ever called plays. Look at Mike McDaniel. If you want to see how great an offensive mind Brian Daboll is, look at his time with the Giants in the window he called the plays. Look at his years in the league with any other team he's been on. I cannot wait til he's hired someplace else and people see him fail there too. Daboll's success is a product of Josh Allen.

they have to play well for one half after spotting a backup QB 20 points. And listen. You get that entire sweet deal and all you have to do is hand out a bunch of $80M deals on defense and draft exclusively a million defensive players every season. -

Our defensive line has a lot of injuries. Sefense still shut down the passing game for the most part. -

It's not news that the Bills do not have great coaching. But who does? KC's HoF coaching staff can be cited for leaving wins on the table this year in the same regard. The Eagles won the SB last year with a sh!t show at HC and a DC who the Bills OC's repeatedly beat like a rented mule in Denver and Miami. I mean how many times did the Bills make Fangio look like the game had passed him by? Over the past couple of seasons I think the Bills rank higher as a coaching staff than as a roster. That's a problem because their roster begins with player #1 in the league. They just have ZERO elite talent at any other premium position. It's left little to no margin for error. And in that stretch of 24 wins in Brady's first 27 meaningful regular season games as OC they had just enough talent available to execute. And what Brady was doing was seen as innovative. In the 2 losses last year and the 4 this year the common thread is not having all of their "modest" pass game weapons available and subsequent turnovers with players trying to do too much. -
Short week? Yes, banged up and injuries? Yes, Best defense Yes! But the giving up all those points to a backup and especially the drive before halftime? was inexcusable. The Bills simply were not properly prepared for this game on both sides of the ball. The defense took too long to adjust to Texans and made things easier far too easy for Mills in their coverages and not stopping the run. Too many short yardage 3rd downs for the Texans. Offensively Brady should have known that Josh would be overwhelmed with pressure and had counters to the blitz that burned the Texans until they stopped. He did none of those things. Instead of old screens, draws or misdirection's we got that awful wr screen that they sniffed out almost every time. On two critical 4th downs Brady called two plays which were godawful. The Bills despite all the ineptitude of these coaches had a chance to win this game which they certainly didn't deserve. The coaches made it as difficult as possible.

The defense played well overall when looking at the full game. Last time I checked, the game doesn't end at halftime. I would generally hope for more than 12 points from our offense, yes. We can call it 16 due to the missed XP and passing up the shorter field goal, but would ding them for short-field turnovers that led to 6 points for the other team.
