Tyrell Shavers and blocking as a WR
BillsFanForever19 replied to Bufffalo_Bills_NH's topic in The Stadium Wall
Shavers will be here at least through 2026 (as he's under contract through next year) and will get a jersey every week as a bottom of the depth chart WR for his blocking and Special Teams alone. He really doesn't provide much as a WR (the Tampa Bay game had more to do with them having a *terrible* Pass D) - but he does what you want out of a 5th WR. Which is play Teams and Block your tail off. -
Its OK for the Bills to be a run-first team

Kincaid is definitely our most important pass catcher. He's the only one that Allen inherently trusts, which is a big step forward from last year when the two were frequently not on the same page. It is weird though that we're calling him a key player when he was only in on 41.5% of snaps prior to injury. But he's been ridiculously efficient with a 155.6 passer rating when targeted. He's mostly useless in the run game because there are just better blockers than him on the roster, but our pass game is almost non-functional when he isn't on the field. -

I go back to the play calling and game plan against Houston, in not working. In the Bills second series, they ran for 6 yards on first down and then a negative-2 yard pass to Shakir (the dreaded WR screen?) Then a 2-yard run and a punt. Cook had 17 carries for 116 yards at a 6.8 yard per carry average in that game, and yet Joe Brady called for 34 passes. Not just any passes, but mid to deep passes with minimal pass protection against a great defensive front. That's what went wrong in that game. If the play calls were similar to what he called against the Steelers I'd wager it's a win. -

The #1 Key To Buffalo Going On A Playoff Run
Kelly to Allen replied to iwishitwerecolder's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is some solid work. Ill be pretty on edge but optimistic wherever we go. No mahomes or burrow in the playoffs, idk I think this is probably as good as it gets -
I personally agree with you. I just think they'll be in a better head space once they get that 1st championship out of the way before they play KC again. KC missing the playoffs helps a ton. We can knock Cincinnati out too this Sunday Jmo

We already have the answer to that. We've seen what happens. It doesn't matter if it's a good team or a team like the Falcons or the Dolphins. If the run is shut down early and/or a team gets the lead on us and we need to pass the ball to stay in the game - it's Game Over. The only hope we have (and it's not a likely one) is that Dalton Kincaid comes back 100% and stays healthy, Brandin Cooks is able to turn the clock back and play his best ball in years (or at least draw attention away from Davis and Shakir), Brady is able to call better games, and we develop at least an adequate passing attack with Kincaid, Shakir, Cooks, and Davis. As it stands right now and has been the case for the past 8 weeks, where we've gone 4-4 - if we can win the line of scrimmage and Cook goes off, even when they're scheming to stop it, we're in decent shape. But that's not going to happen on a week to week basis and especially not against the best teams in Football playing their best. If we continue playing the way that we play and aren't able to develop some kind of passing attack, we're going nowhere fast. And every team, whether they're the best or worst team in the league, can beat us simply by playing good Run Defense. -

Just like the Patriots In the second half of Brady's career when he didn't have gronkowski they didn't win When he had gronk he won in the playoffs If the bills have Kincaid I like our chances if we don't it's going to really really hurt us He is a legitimate mismatch who will go for a hundred if the bills need him to -
I think Anthony is very talented but we have a lot of depth including probably some better defensive guys There will be some games where he's going to have to get a spark and score 10 or 15 I always thought he was a 2 and done or three and done player.. and he will grow as a player even as his body matures in the next year

I’ve done some thinking over the past week about the upcoming bills games, seeding, ect.. and there’s one blaring problem that prevents Buffalo from making a run in the playoffs. That problem has to do with home field advantage. It’s pretty clear by now we aren’t winning the division, the patriots likely have that locked up barring an utter collapse like the dolphins in 2023. But one thing sticks out to me, and is the fix to the problem that can propel Buffalo going on a run. It has to do with the 5 seed.. let me explain. I have done some playoff generators and this is what I’ve concocted as the most likely/best case scenario for Buffalo (being the 5 seed) 1. Broncos/Patritos (flip flop it, it doesn’t matter to my point) 2. Broncos/Patritos (flip flop it, it doesn’t matter to my point) 3. (AFC south winner) 4. (AFC north winner) 5. Buffalo 6. (2nd place in AFC south) 7. Chiefs/3rd spot in AFC south/Chargers/ect. The reason Buffalo needs the 5 seed is to have the chance to play the winner of the AFC north. It’s clear to everyone the AFC north is lacking right now, and with how the playoffs work and division winners ect, the ravens/steelers will likely be the 4 seed. Buffalo has an amazing record against the AFC north since Josh Allen has been at the helm, especially in the playoffs, being 3-1. (Loss vs cinci). If Buffalo can get the Steelers, or really, even the ravens in the first round it would be the dream scenario. While some on this forum may think I’m “thinking ahead too much”, or that Buffalo shouldn’t worry about who they play on their playoff schedule and to just “beat who they play”, I would have to disagree. The bills have struggled on the road in the playoffs, and with it being more and more likely by the passing week that Buffalo will be a wild card team, this is what is going to have to happen. The bills will need a weak wild card weekend opponent to make a run. Go Bills and thanks for reading

I remember going there to watch the Bisons with my dad in I guess 1985? Steve Christmas, Darryl Boston, Joe DeSa, and Jerry Don Gleaton were on that team. The Butcher catching foul balls that rolled off the net. My introduction to The Earl of Bud! I can continue if you'd like. lol Randall Cunningham would be ridiculous in the modern NFL and Buddy Ryan's treatment of offense was criminally bad even at the time. -
Although I was way farther away, I also thought that Bruce had a sure sack/safety. How Cunningham was able to get away from that was remarkable.
-
Agreed about the defense and turnovers. But no, last year's offense was much more consistent, and just plain better. A lot better so far. Last year we had three games all season where we scored 20 points or less. Hell, we scored 29 with Trubisky at QB in the last game. This year, four games. So far. Last year eight offensive turnovers total, and only one game with more than one. This year? Suffice it to say that we've been worse. Inconsistency far beyond what the offense showed last year.
-
Yup, I saw that on the replays. But live, in the moment, from behind the play, it looked like a miracle by Cunningham. Bruce was bearing down on his blind side like a white shark and somehow he ducked under it...

I think the point is that our offense is built to play like it did against Pittsburgh, not like it did against Houston. Of course I still question what will happen if/when we get into a playoff matchup where the opponent shuts down the run and gets a lead on us which forces us to pass. But the way our team is built we need to live with pounding the run and throwing primarily to TEs and RBs until absolutely necessary. Our best pass play right now is PA shot where we check it down to the RB or a leaking TE. So everything needs to build off of the run game. It is not an ideal offense by any means but it is our best path forward. -
I thought it was favorite moment not moments….I’m gonna need a page or two.

Houston comeback game. Dad wanted to leave. You never leave. The time in the summer of 1989 that my grandfather took me to pick-a-seat day to buy my own season ticket, sitting all by myself, 4 rows behind the rest of the family. He called my Dad at work at work and talked him into it, I swore to every deity I could think of that I would pay for it myself, and Dad agreed - somewhat reluctantly. I had my own ticket from 1989-1995 and cut a ton of grass and shoveled more snow than I ever want to think about shoveling again. That worked out well. AFCCG v. Raiders 3TDs in 77 seconds v. Denver Bills/Dolphins 9/14/2014 - first game after they announced Pegula was buying the team and they wouldn't be moving away. I don't live in WNY anymore and it wasn't in the plans to go to that game but when that announcement was made the whole family felt like we had to go. Also the first game I brought my then 8 year old son to. He lost his mind when Spiller had the KO return for a TD. I responded to some thing for the Buffalo News asking why the team was important to you or some such and they called me on the phone and asked some questions. I told them the story from #2 and some stories from being a young kid sitting by himself in a pretty wild place at a wild time and they put it in the paper so that was kinda neat. Bills/Cowboys November 18, 1984 - I was 6, the team was terrible, and I was only able to go to games that year because they were so bad my mother didn't want to go so Dad took me. They won that day when they weren't supposed to and hadn't won a game all year. It felt like the best thing in the world. In retrospect, my Dad is/was pretty cool for letting me do that. November 18, 2001 - Jim Kelly Wall of Fame day. The first time I brought my wife, then girlfriend, to the stadium. I drank WAY too much, the Bills lost to a long Rian Lindell FG for the Seahawks, and it was the day I knew I found the right girl. 2024-25 playoffs v. Denver. My now wife and my Dad and my younger son came. Dad wasn't really a tailgate guy when I was a kid so I made him try it now that he's old. Did ski shots with my 74 year old father in somebody's driveway. The homeowner was dressed like a referee and throwing flags at Broncos fans. If that was you, thank you. Bills/Raiders Divisional Round, January 1994. Air temp 0, -32 wind chill. I never felt cold that day. Bills/Phoenix 1990: It was raining, sleeting, and blowing what felt like easily 30mph. I got wet almost right away, stayed wet the whole game, and froze my ever loving ass off. The sleet was moving across the field in sheets in the 4th quarter and I was shielding my face with my hands because it felt like getting sandblasted. I'm going this week with my Mom, Dad and 15 year old son and I'm trying to go to the Eagles game and Jets game also. I really want to sit in my former seat for the Jets game. I got close to it for the Saints game but not quite. I need to walk over to 311 this Sunday and see what the new number is on my seat. I thought I knew what it was but I was wrong. It used to be M6, row 10, seat 111. My family had M5 (the sections used to split in the middle of the section for you youngins - it confused the hell out of people), row 6, seats 7, 8, and 9. Anyhoo. Na'zdrowie and Go Bills! You aren't the only one with a similar plan my friend.
