Maybin holdout

Recommended Posts

The Hall of Fame game is this weekend. And if Crabtree doesn't sign fairly soon then Maybin will have missed almost all of camp. It doesn't matter how quick his first step is, if he doesn't practice he won't be in many games at all for us this season. THIS SUCKS!!!

As a pass rushing specialist, I'm guessing his learning curve won't be too large. It will take a few years for him to become a complete D-end, but I can't imagine he'll need a lot of reps to pin his ears back and go get 'em.

Hmm, for some reason I thought I remembered seeing more. Oh well, thanks for the info.

Yeah, it prolly was until late last night. I havent looked at the list but I wouldnt be suprised that a few guys signed last night to be in camp this morning. Lets hope Maybin is soon.

no, 11 is still a third unsigned, so that is significant-not low. so you were right.

the learning curve for a d-lineman is pretty large...with that said, the learning curve is high enough where it takes two years anyway-with the rookie season usually being a wash if in camp on time or not. so 3-4 weeks of training camp his rookie year isnt make or break for the bills season or his long-term potential.

lets all relax...if possible

It's not a holdout; he's not under contract. The distinction is relevant because he isn't "supposed" to be there if he doesn't have a contract.

If the Crabtree situation winds up f***ing the Bills over because Maybin won't sign until the guy ahead of him does, I'll be pissed.

Crabtree, whose contract Maybin's agent Joel Segal is waiting to see, is looking for more money than the ridiculous contract the Raiders gave to Darius Heyward Bey. Maybin could be out awhile.

Incredible. What a difference between Bey at #7 and Orakpo at #13. Raiders did mess it up a bit.

This idea that they have to wait for Crabtree is idiotic.

Simply look at the existing contracts and compare them to last year's player contracts from similar slots. Is there a trend showing a noticeable difference percentage-wise? If a trend is evident, crunch the numbers into a ratio and and figure it out. If there's no trend, then who gives a fk about Crabtree? Base the contract on what you think you're worth, negotiate, and get it done for crying out loud. Mr. Maybin....If Travis Henry jumped off a bridge would you do it too? Just get it done and quit screwing around. There's enough signees, this year, and last, to get a frame of reference.

One thing for sure - if Crabtree decided he was only worth $10 million over 6 years, I guarantee Maybin wouldn't give a crap what Crabtree does.

Obviously they don't "have" to wait for Crabtree. They want to, because he's asking for top-3 money, and if he gets is, Maybin's agent will ask for slightly less, citing "slotting (based on this year, not last)."

Relax. Maybin isn't going to do anything this season other than come in on 3rd downs and rush the passer. He was never going to do more than that. He doesn't need to be in camp to figure out how to get the QB.

When don't the Raiders fu@k things up? How about how much more WRs got paid last year because of the Javon Walker contract? To quote the great one "They are a Mickey Mouse organizations"

I don't think it's as bad as you say, BeastMode.

Yes, Maybin would benefit more from being in camp than just working out alone, but let's look at it rationally:

- For most teams, today represents the first day of practice back in full pads, so he's really not that far behind the rest of the league.

- Buffalo is one of 2 teams with 5 pre-season games, so even if Maybin gets into camp so late that his first action is pre-season game #3, he'll still have 3 full pre-season games to work with to get up to NFL game speed.

- As many others have mentioned, if all Maybin does this season is get after the QB, and he does it effectively, he'll be well worth the pick and the $$ spent to sign him; given his penchant for doing so in college, it's not a stretch to think that he could play that role without a ton of experience.

Just my 1 cent.

More important than Crabtree is Raji's contract. Right now, he sets the tone for D-Line pay, and is only 2 slots ahead of Maybin. Crabtree is going to ask for a Sanchez like contract, saying he is a skill position and should have gone higher. Maybin's deal will look more like Raji's. Orakpo is playing LB, so his deal will be different. One thing is for certain - he needs to get his a** into camp. It's not looking good that Maybin, Byrd and Nelson will be seeing any significant playing time early in the season.
