Bills Waive 5 players

Per text message.

No surprises, but the Bell was Joel Bell, not Demetrius. I always thought that Costanzo was a good ST'er, but I guess they have better guys to fill his role.

OL Joel Bell

LB Blake Costanzo

DT John Faletoese

DB Kyle Ward

DE Gerald Washington

Are there metrics we can look at that would take the guess work out of this?

All I know is unsigned draft picks don't count on the roster during OTA's until they are signed.

The article stated the Bills cut these five guys to get down to 75 players. You can only have 80 players on the team in the offseason. Hopefully this means the Bills will start signing some of their 8 draft picks.

Joel Bills is an interesting story. Have a feeling the Bills are maybe trying to sneak him thru waivers and resign him to the practice squad. Bell is a mammoth guy that hasnt played the game long. He is learning and could develope. He will need a few years before any team knows what he has to offer. IMO.

That's normally done with training-camp cutdowns. If they're not even bothering to take him to camp ...

Interesting that Nick Hennessey (who also can't attend because of the stupid final exam rules) is still on the roster and Bell is not.

That probably means those 5 didnt show enough in training camp. The Bills will need those spots for their draftees anyways.

The team can only have 80 players under contract at one time, which they had before the releases. The un-signed rookies don't count against that number until they sign their deals. Since SF signed a few players taken one spot before our players, the FO probably anticipates the signing of our draft picks to be quick - at least for the late rounders. They probably thought those five guys were not going to make the team, but had a chance to make another team, so they let them go so as not to stiffle their slim chances at an NFL roster.
